I loved watching you do this experiment. It is my everyday life. I am a over the road truck driver in the US. I'm out on the road for 6 to 8 weeks at a time. I can't go that long without my creating. I have a rolling bag, the ones used for scrapbooking crops that I pack up each time I'm home. Because my art space is a table at a truck stop restaurant I have to be careful what supplies I use, I don't want to stain their tables by accident, I do have a Teflon sheet to protect the area though. I find myself wishing I had that stamp with me or that stencil; whatever, but since I don't I'm forced to sketch more and find creative solutions that stretch me that I wouldn't have if I had been at home. TFS
Have enjoyed your videos for years. This was excellent! I particularly heard your advice that you do not need every color of every product!! I am completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of art supplies I have and as a result have lost my mojo and don't know where to start to destash and declutter. This is very helpful. I could do my mixed media and altered books literally with a few favorite products and recycled junk! Thanks so much for sharing your abundant talent and your time with your butterflies! 😘 🎨 💕
so cool to read that this is hitting home!! I'm looking forward to see some new creations of yours, so don't forget to show me! xo
I so love your comment, “less clutter means less time searching for stuff. “ its the story of my life.
it's the base of Marie Kondon's success ;) xo
I have seen this done with watercolors for plane travel, using a small Godiva candy box. There are so many decorative boxes sold today that the possibilities for the home are endless. Thank you for making my head spin with planning my own!
Excellent idea, excellent advice France! Like many of us, I get overwhelmed by all my supplies and what COULD be done with them, that I tend to get gridlocked! Thank you for sharing :D
You're welcome Linda! Looking forward to your creations, so please do share! xx
Just found your channel and love the challenge of suitcase journaling. I was amazed how much you could fit in the suitcase, thanks for sharing.
Great video and great advice. I have so much stuff and don't tend to work in my craft space because it is so crowded. Most often I craft on the dining table. I grab what I need from the craft room and bring it to the table to work on.
I am so glad that some one recommended your channel. I love it! Thanks for all your recommendation, less is more. I am currently visiting my son and I could brought a suitcase with my craft and naturally I didn't buy I am in the future. Again thanks for sharing. Cordially your new admire.😎
Hi Ramona, welcome to my channel! I don't who recommended me to you, but that friend is a keeper ;) Have a wonderful stay with your son :) xx
It made me laugh to see the things going back into the suitcase in different places every day. What a fun experiment.
Funny right? I had the same reaction editing the video ;))) xx
Sooo true about not needing all the colors! My friend thinks it’s weird that I don’t need all the colors, but I just know I won’t use them!
Loved this video. Loved the final results of your art piece and loved the background music. Thank you so much for sharing...you are very helpful in my thought process.
The suitcase is lovely 😍... It's nice to see the face behind those brilliant hands... keep sharing your amazing work ❤
Awe thank you! I sure will ☺️😘
I love your washi tapes storage box
Catching up on some older videos and thinking I may have to go buy myself a little suitcase like you used, and keep it on my desktop to use in this way. I can see the benefit of this, if only to keep together the supplies I'm using for any single project until it is finished. At the moment, I have so much "stuff" all over my desktop that I think I might have about two square inches of usable space! Needless to say, I'm not getting a lot of journaling done.
Thank you so much for this video, France! That 31 minutes went by in a flash. So many cool ideas from the art journaling portion, and so much creativity coming out of the self-imposed limitations! I want to join your ALAD challenge this coming week and also try packing a small case of supplies for the week. Love!
Don't forget to share your findings with me Deborah, I'd love to know how it turned out for you :) And I did hesitate to leave it to 31 minutes, but good thing I did :))) xo
This is really beautiful!
Gives me a whole new meaning to finding my focus, I think we all could benefit from trying this out and making it a practice to do at least once a month or more. It would also depend on your journaling style as to how well it will work for you. Thanks for sharing such great advice Hugs and Smiles
We all get lost in the noise, don't we? Happy to read this is helpful to you! :))) xo
Lovely work, as usual. I especially loved how you store your stamps in an old zippered journal. I will be doing the same thing! I have done something similar to this suitcase when I have taken art supplies on the road and needed to travel light. Works so well and keeps from cluttering the mind.
This is genius, I love this idea. Thank you sooo much!!!
Let me know how it works out for you! 🙂 Xx france
I finally had to clean out the trunk of my car (summer heat). After bags of what I thought was important to carry around, wasn’t. Now I’m cleaning out my actual daily art space.
I have created mini travel art supplies, one of the best things is making a watercolor palette out of peerless watercolors. I bring gouache, black and white gesso and matte gel, and this changes the watercolor into just about any kind of pigment.
I transfered my mediums into old pill bottles too so that they were in smaller, more easily transportable containers.
That being said it's ALWAYS a good idea to pare down to a few essentials. It makes you force yourself to be more creative.
I really liked the video and journaling out of a suitcase is a great idea. Thanks for sharing.
I'm working on more of those, but... shorter than half an hour ;))) xx
Brilliant! I do sometimes lament that I haven't an embosser or a die cut machine, but the fact is I can either use a pair of scissors or a pencil to achieve the same effect. Thank you,
Bethany
it can be frustrating at times, I hear you, but it forces you indeed to search for alternatives and that's when serendipity happens! ;) xx
You have inspired me to pack less supplies. Narrowing the options helps me focus.
Let me know how it works out Connie! xx
Before I got a dedicated worktable set up I worked at my living room table, which is also our dinner table. I had a raskog from ikea (a trolley with 3 baskets on wheels) with all my stuff. That way I could clear it all away and roll the trolley into the bedroom out of sight. That worked.
Honestly I hated having to move my things in the middle of projects, but if you don’t have the space, it’s better than nothing! And at least this way you can have things organized in baskets.
I still have my raskog in my studio, but for me, it's not helping in keeping my table clean. It's handy it has wheels though, especially if you don't have a dedicated space! xx
What a beautiful journal page. Just found your channel. Wise advice. Thank you.
You're welcome Wanda 🙂xx
Super idea! I love having my own studio space, but am getting a puppy in 3 weeks and so need to puppy proof it, and am not wanting to organize and clean, and I have never really finished organizing after moving in five months ago. Hoping that having a curious dog coming will help motivate me to get some things off the floor.
Well if it doesn't motivate you, it will motivate your little fur ball ;))) good luck in cleaning up and with your new puppy! xx
Great advice, France! When I first started journaling, I did it from my kitchen table with a small amount of supplies. I may be in the minority but I loved it. Maybe because I was away from the action but since I could still hear it in the background, I still felt a part of it. I’ve since converted a room into my art room. I’m not complaining, but sometimes I still miss that kitchen table.
Completely off subject... your lipstick and nails look great!
I hear you Alainea! My craft area used to be a corner in the living room and just like you said: I was still part of the action! Filming was complicated though ;) My lipstick is the patentpolish lip pencil in ruby from mac ;) now you know lol xoxo
Stunning from small supplies tfs xx
thank you Caz :) Hadn't thought of it that way as in 'small supplies', but it actually is! xx
I love your wisdom.
your lip color is the BOMB!!!
It's the patentpolish lip pencil in ruby from mac ;) xx

Its so fresh!! just lovely on you .
Super tof initiatief 😍 xx
Love! Thank you so much.
You're welcome! xx
Very useful video. For people like me who have no separate space for art.
you're welcome Shamila :))) xo
Pure wisdom.
wow, thank you Robin!
I bet you can smuggle a few more items in the roll of the paper (kitchen) towels!!!! 😂😂
totally!! :)
I take the pieces of the paper towel off and put them in a plastic document folder. In that folder I also have a few stencils, some flexible, thin cutting boards for palettes and wet wipes in a baggie. This cuts down on a ton of space. I usually toss a few pieces of gesso prepped paper in there too for testing or in case I want to make a separate piece.
Paintbrushes!
Great ideas! Wuvs ya tons!!! ❤xo💜xo💙xo💛xo💖xo💚
waving back especially at you Lori :))) xoxo
I don't work out of a suitcase but I do live in a small apartment and most of my art supplies have to disappear into a 19th century secretary desk that belonged to my grandmother. It keeps me from over-buying!
You had me at grandmother's secretary ❣️
@@francepapillon ha, it is kind of grounding to work in even such a small space with happy memories associated photos.app.goo.gl/Ti2QKg18ewgEdXEaA
Your artwork is beautiful! I'd love to know the name of that crackle paint please. I tried to search for it in your videos, but no luck. Thanks!
that is Crackle paint from DecoArt Effie :) xx
@@francepapillon Thanks!
Love it. Is it frustrating for you to do only one layer a day? I’m super curious.
sometimes it is and sometimes I just don't feel like doing it, but once I start, I'm happy I did! Depends on what's going on in life ;) xx
france papillon thanks for your reply. I really appreciate it. 💜
Thank you, this was inspiring and such a great idea. I'm sorry if I missed it but what kind of paper do you use for your journals?
It's 200gsm water color paper :) xx
OH so good,
oooooh I love it when I get Butterfly kisses back!!! :))) xo
Love you videos! What kind of blending tool do you use for blending your pencils (I mean the grey one)?
those are simple paper blending stumps, the kind you find with charcoal at art stores :) xx
@@francepapillon oh trank you, I did not know these tools yet, but I ordered them today and look forward to trying them out
You chose a VERY small suitcase. LOL
And I still had space left! lol xx
Fun and inspiring. Please would you tell me the background music around 9:40?
It's called 'Il reste du temps' from Lo Mimieux :) Glad you like it too! xx
france papillon thank you, piano music to me is calming and inspiring. Beautiful.
what is "cameric"? what is it used for?
Cambric is actually a gauze used for bandages. But it's so cool to use in mixed media ;) xx
