Game Consoles Kinda Suck

  • I was laying in bed one night trying to bring up the energy to make it to my office to play some Modern Warfare 2, it made me think that game consoles suck, not because they generally suck, sometimes game consoles are pretty good, for some use cases, like playing games.
I just got really annoyed I would have to spend another £70 rebuying Modern Warfare 2 over on my PS5 to avoid having to go to my office.
Feel Free to send me a copy on PS5 Activision, I would be eternally greatful!

Agreed. Most modern games just don't really appeal to me anyway, and those that do are mostly Nintendo exclusives anyway. The Switch also has the added convenience of on-the-go gaming. And PC is great for emulating retro consoles.

Tbh there is no reason to own those consoles, you have to pay for online, the games are expensive, barely any exclusives and then those just come to pc anyway, the only real reason to have one is if you can’t afford a pc or if you just want to be with your friends.

Paid online has to be eliminated on consoles for a step in the right direction. My hope is that the subscription services will replace paid online and it will become free for everyone across the board. I am very happy with Game Pass and PS Plus because I get so much content to play and I can also buy games on sale more often.

Consoles used to be top end gaming hardware when PS3 came out. They were quite on par with high end PCs when PS4 came out. But by the time PS4 Pro came out it was mid end, and now PS5 and Series X is actually only bit better than lower end PCs.

I grew up playing Atari 2600. Computers were hundreds, and thousands of dollars in the 80s. So the $50 Atari was a cheap alternative to PC gaming. My friend had a Commodore 64, with Skate or Die, and he had it before it was released on NES. The C64 version was better than Nintendo. So today a PS5 is $600 and the 4Tb storage is $400, so a thousand dollars for a 4TB PS5. Now a PC is a little cheaper with a graphics card and 4Tb. I could build a 4TB PC with a $200 graphics card for $700. So the point of owning a console that cost more with a lower frame rate is kind of pointless. Today computers have HDMI output, and old computers we couldn't hook up to TVs, like we can today. So hooking a PC up to a TV makes more since today, movies, netflix, wireless keyboard, wireless mouse. And you can turn any old Android phone into a WIFI remote for your PC with apps. Xbox controllers work with PC. I think the frame rate on Xbox X and PS5 needs to be 120fps-160fps. PC is better, and easier to replace parts like Bluray drives. Sony and Microsoft have a monopoly on their digital game stores. So games are cheaper on Steam or Google. Streets of Rage 4 is $3 on Google, and $25 on Playstation store.

"I can understand paying for online, since they're providing a service"
Well... No, they don't. That's the whole crux of the matter. None of the console manufacturers provide servers for your games, the publishers and developers have to do that. You're paying your ISP for your internet, and then it's either a direct connection to other players, or you're playing on servers. When it comes to crossplay, it's the same servers PC players play on, for free. None are paid for by Sony or MS.
It really is just a paywall, and the fact so many people are tricked into believing there's an actual service behind it makes it kinda unethical in my opinion.
In the end, it goes back to the pricing. PCs cost more because the manufacturers you buy your parts from have to make money on the PC itself. Consoles, on the other hand, are sold at a loss which is why they're cheaper, and for them to make any money they have to charge more for games than on PC and charge for online. If you play more than a handful of games a year and play online, PCs actually end up being cheaper over time. If you only play a handful of games a year and not online, then maybe not. But funny enough that also makes you someone that the console manufacturer loses money on. They rely on people who pay big time.
Anyways... I like playing games on the TV, too, but I don't like having to change platforms and friends and rebuy games. So my PC is connected to the TV as well, though in-home streaming is a good option, too. I also like handheld gaming, so I'm glad the Steam Deck has filled that niche for me.

I wouldn’t call myself a “gamer” it’s mostly therapeutic for me aside from some all time favorites. But I have come to the crossroads of pc or ps5. I’ve become romanced by the look and functionality of the ROG Ally and steam deck. Both of those match my wallet and almost every game I play I can play on those. Pc games just look so much better and the mod nation is ridiculous. But, I will wait another year until there is a more healthy competition in pc handhelds before making a choice. Its interesting seeing the other side. I had a pc during the ps3/360 and im glad I left for a few reasons. 1) 60 fps works for me and your eye can only track up to around 85 fps, and thats if your a fighter pilot. Playing at 1440 to 4k works for me.
    2) I like not having to mess with my systems for 5-10 min everytime i buy a game and if i get a new part then thats 5-10 min for every game.
    3) the exclusives for switch and sony are great and I have a decent job and im more then happy to support the devs making the games. The only 3rd party i like is fromsoft and they release for sony and some for nintendo anyway.
    4) the price isnt even close, one of my friends spend 5k for his setup and it doelook much better then my ps5 it doesn't load as fast. Complaining about 70$ games while you spend thousands for 1 part is insane to me, if it wasnt fo the games then they would be no reason to play on it.
    5) this is the biggest one for me... the games. Instead of waiting for games I dont have to wait for ragnarok, if it does even release for the pc. If epic or steam started making games maybe my pc friends would say emulate switch and wait for ps5 ports.
Dont get me wrong i have a ok pc for rts games and ro mod new vegas and if starfield is good I'm going to wait for a steam sale about a year later so I can mod in patches. We should all remember ine thing to, most folk that have a pc are quite outdated, not everyone has a powers rig. Just wanted to guve another perspective.

I know PC's can be incredible expensive if you're going for top of the line but that's the biggest thing that people mess up on with it, you can make a decent PC that is playing all new titles for less than double what you pay for a console. Those people paying thousands for a new graphics card when they don't need it make me feel incredibly uncomfortable!

@@CJTheSecond925 for me what I've noticed is that some of my friends are pc players and by that they don't buy games so they can see where they benchmark at. From my understanding from my buds it's primarily one or two games that they focus on. Like they play counter strike and rust or wow and league, feel me? They play those games because they are PC games designed specifically for PC players.
I personally like to diversify my games, I'm usually playing 2 or 3 at the same time so I don't get tired of one. I got burnt out on tales of vesperia on the switch, about finished and couldn't care less about it now. They are some cross over but not as much as you think. Alot of people I know have some money, I know one of the guys that started zip files on phones and money isn't a problem for him. He asked me what to get I told him straight up because he was focused on the program and stop gaming for a while get a switch. The switch has alot of different games and more first party games are well made. He didn't listen to me and spent like 7g on a computer set up getting EVERYTHING and couldn't find what he wanted to play. I racing for his set up and half life Alex for his vr but beyond that... meh?

I go back and forth myself. I completely agree about consoles being nice in the fact that in general, you just launch the game and you’re good. On PC you generally at least have to open the settings menu and make your you resolution and refresh rate are good, and often times during gameplay, if I see slowdowns I’m tempted to open the task manager and see if it’s my CPU or GPU holding me back, and if it’s the latter, start messing with settings. On console if there’s a slow down I tend to ignore it as I know there’s really nothing I can do lol

Now Im just calculated for myself a $500 console, $70 games, $70 controllers, $60 online that's $700 right there & with that you can easily beat a console especially buying used parts. I think even a less powerful pc is still better because that could be your foot In the door as you upgrade. A 1080p high frame rate pc is great 1080p is still the standard and we see 3 years in the next gen still has problems getting stable 60FPS. Plus Microsoft & Sony buying all these companies limiting players, at least having a PC you can be slightly safe, only one device can play GOW & Halo. Im frankly excited to get into PC gaming.

Getting used parts is always a great way for building on a budget, for a lot of people though they don't want the hassle of having to build the PC and the fact that it isn't plug and play can be a big thing for a lot of people. I still think PC gaming is a better way to game, mainly because mouse and keyboard is much nicer to game on than a controller in my opinion. They’re all SSD and well SST have a mean lifetime you know a certain number of red rights on every location on the SSD you’re only going to be reducing the location. The amount of storage went when bad spots turn up, they will be blocked out. Your max storage will go down and eventually you’ll have to replace the SSD but by the time you do, you’ll be buying a new consul because it’ll be the next GEN of consul. SSD is the least likely place of failure in any hardware available today. Yours is going to be your processor your memory, or your GPU overclocked running at higher temperatures that were designed for.

They don’t have a demo. You’re literally getting to try the game for 15 hours for free if you buy it you just continue playing which in most demos is not the case either maybe half the time of demo will let you keep your progress, and as far as the catalog goes, it’s not hard to figure out PS plus gives you love the player gaming and access to PS plus free games PS plus extra gives you access to over 500 PS4 and PS five games all you care about is this current GEN and next GEN then all you need is extra PS plus premium gives you access to cloud gaming, which is the PS1, PS2 and PS3 titles and the ability to run some games from the cloud to take a look without installing not all but some of the newer PS five games PS4 games can can be streamed so you can you know play for 1520 minutes look at the game and get an idea Before you decide to download and install it but mostly what you get with premium is the entire catalog of thousands of PS1, PS2 and PS3 games plus the ability to stream to your PC although I haven’t looked at it under premium but PS now many of the more modern titles you can actually install on your PC There was an option when you look at the catalog to either stream or install sometimes and it was usually on the more modern stuff in any case it’s not complex at all if you want Jen games free to play from the catalog do you want PS plus extra if you don’t mind buying a game once in a while you just want the free to play PS plus games That PS plus essential is all you need if you want everything PS plus premium is the way to go and it’s not complex anymore on Xbox because Xbox has streamlined game pass to be an almost exact copy first day set up game pass and PS plus rearranged their offerings now game pass is getting rearranged as well. the big issue is that physical is becoming more and more outdated as years ago by. The playstation making the ps5 slim not have the disk reader physically is them just testing the waters for the day when they can just not have a physical disk and it'll just be their store of which they'll mark up the price for. And despite that half of the game is already not even on the disk, you have to download updates on it when you put it in. Huge day 1 patches mean like the game on your disk is barely what it used to be, you're just paying for the right to play. And that's the lucky end of the stick, don't even get me started on nintendo, it's way worse with those cartridges. Don't get we wrong not trying to be doomer-y or saying you need to complain but everything related to this is all interconnected in a push for playstation and such to suck as much money and benefits from you console as humanly possible so all these anti consumer practices being shoved under the rug by others "because it doesn't affect them" ABSOLUTELY does affect them if they're unable to hold companies to a certain standard.

Yes, a PC is a much better investment in every way possible. However, it is most likely a console gamer just wants nothing more than to play the latest games with buds and watch movies or shows. So your points of backwards compatibility and customising the hardware mean nothing to them, even though it would be great. Also disc drive problems being the biggest issue on console for the last 10 years? There’s a bigger glaring problem that no one mentions.
The biggest cons of console gaming is obviously paying to play online and communication bans. Gamepass is good but took almost like 20 years for them to finally do it. And the tier shit from PlayStation is god awful.
Now to communication bans. The smallest thing nowadays can get you ban, up to a month or even permanently. Xbox has an AI filter that automatically detects anything that goes against the filter and punishes you for it, and it does mistakes and the mistakes of the AI still goes against you, a couple of bans and then you’re permanently banned. That’s it. No matter how long you were a customer for, no matter how many games you bought, you simply cannot access your account anymore.
I think PlayStation doesn’t have the filter so an actual human being has to report you but god, being temporarily banned on PlayStation is no different from permanently banned. You can’t even access the fucking store and your first infraction can be a whole month. Being banned on Xbox is like going to prison, any regular prison. Being banned on PlayStation is like going to the Federal Supermax prison.
Sure you can say don’t message, don’t talk in game, don’t have a custom profile picture, don’t have a bio, don’t have a fucking name. The point is, why fucking online game if it treats you like a 6 year old.

I think the paying to play online is a little bit ridiculous but it's also something that I'm weirdly used too, being a console gamer for most of my life until the last 2/3 years it just seemed like a normal thing.
The bans are awful, not even just for communication, the support has gotten better in more recent years but I was once locked out of my xbox account for over two years for something that was completely out of my control and it was the main thing that drove me to getting a playstation instead of an xbox.
Let's hope that at some point they can fix some of these issues!

That sucks you gotta deal with that bullshit from Xbox. Since the release of the Xbox One the brand has gone downhill. The Xbox One itself was one of the worst pieces of technology ever made. I remember it wouldn’t let you play disc games if you were offline. I remember it wouldn’t even let you sign in if you were offline sometimes. And how do I know this? Because it would sometimes just randomly disconnect from the internet. And then good luck trying to reconnect to the internet when the fucking settings crash. Then you gotta manually put the password again because it never remembers it. None of these were fixed until like 2020.

Look dude here’s the breakdown one my consul does the same thing your PC does for a third of the price. I’m not exaggerating either if it’s between a third and four times the price to build a gaming PC that does want my consul does today I only have to buy new consul about once every 10 years, you have to buy new PC hardware every two or three years maybe four if you’re lucky your graphics card alone, which is the most updated piece in your hardware cost as much as my consul so price is a gigantic factor. Mine is cheaper and does the same thing I can play the same game as you can playfor a third or a fourth of the price

*after Skyrim in 2011, console gaming failed to evolve and reach the next level of creativity. everything became a copy paste and recycled concept....and developers just wanted to CASH IN instead of giving the fans something unique and groundbreaking 👎 Personally, I don't mind certain companies going bankrupt or out of business now....that's usually what happens when you get it wrong 😂 let bad developers die and those still among the living should take heed and actually put some thought into making the Best Possible Game* 🌠

Yeah, also not a true thing. Most of the games are talking about will be anywhere from 20 to 70% off within a month or two months of release. They will go on sale PC PS plus users get discounts on purchases I’m pretty sure Xbox users that have game pass also get like a 20% discount when the game they’re playing is leaving the catalog PS plus games don’t leave the catalog catalog just keeps growing, when they stop supporting the PS4 generation then maybe we’ll see a bunch of games leave the catalog but as of now just in the last couple years, the catalog is grown from like 350 up to well over 500 games while the Xbox catalog is stayed roughly a little over 100 gamesoh and another thing he has plus premium also adds about 100 movies free movies from Sony’s new streaming service, Sony pitcher core anybody can you know downloading install the app but you don’t get anything free unless you’re at the PS plus premium tier

There is almost no advantage to console. The pricing agrument is misleading. Yes, consoles are cheaper at first, but they become more expensive long-term. Games on consoles are significantly more expensive, you need a subscription to play online, PC hardware just simply lasts longer, and better, especially since we can fine-tune our graphics to suit our hardware appropriately. I had a GTX 1080 7 years ago, bought it for 600 Euros, and yes that's quite a bit more than a console, but even today it absolutely chews through games, it DESTROYS the best consoles on the market with ease! Also, almost everyone has a PC, and it's easy to upgrade PC's. Buy a cheap GTX 1650 or similar, put it in your already excisting PC, and VOILA! It will set you back a similar amount as a PS4 or XBOX One will.

Theres some good things about consoles, the convivence of them is top tier, real plug and play with little to no tinkering, but the rest I completely agree with. A PC is easier to upgrade and if something goes wrong you can usually fix it at home with little to no fuss by just replacing parts instead of having to wait 6 weeks to send it off and get it back, or having to buy an entirely new unit

Got a war has been playable on PC for at least five or six years. I had this as similar discussion I mean in this case the guy responded to me and I could at that very moment on PS now download and install God of war on a PC I did not have to stream it it was installable. I don’t know what the PS plus premium offerings are because I have not had that package nor do I own a gaming PC anymore so I don’t give a shit but you are spreading more misinformation, anybody whoever looked at the PSN catalog and we were all offered a trial a free trial you could see right in the catalog that it was installable on PC. Some games weren’t some games were only stream many many games were only stream, but that is not one of them the original OG war has been installable for a long time.

More misinformation, I mean come on various tech contributors UA-cam content providers with $1 million facilities have made PCs trying to copy back box or the PSI performance minimum even guys that know hardware light you know your name couldn’t build a comparable PC for less than three times the cost of either consul i.e. to build a PC with the equivalent, controller, equivalent, graphics processing the equivalent memory, the equivalent processor it was three times as much when they tried to build it for the same price and show the performance on the screen. It was abysmal they could not run modern games on the one they built at all, any game that is playable on a console run on a console or a PC at the same performance for a third of the price

Yeah, your second your first wind about what you should buy is true it’s extremely easy to get into a consul. You steer kind of of course when you say before spending a bunch of money because the fact is if you buy a consul today it’s the last gaming device you’ll need for 10 years at which point the PlayStation six or the new Xbox will be available what’s your second point about if you really enjoyed better looking games it’s just nonsense. 4K is 4K 120 Hz is 120 Hz you’re not running games that higher than that cause they don’t exist, and it can be done on either console or PC with the same Fidelity, that is not an argument anymore. If the game itself is written to run at 1:20 4K, then either console can run it there.

I'll reply to one of your comments with everything in so it makes it a little easier, this video came out in 2023, early 2023, at which point game pass was £10.99, I'm from the UK so I was talking about in GBP not USD, I said pounds in the video, not bucks or dollars.
You would be right that PC's are more expensive to buy, but building one yourself on a budget still works, you don't have to upgrade your parts every few years because for the most part theres a lot of future proofing you can do. Through the steam directory you can see the most used GPU is a GTX 1080 which released in 2016, it's still one of the best deals for pc builds and I used one to build my nephew a PC last year for less than £600 which works wonders. That's around the same price as a ps5, or atleast it was at the time.
The difference is when people are making these they're usually looking exclusively at the new market where in PC building it seems to be you'll get better value going down the used route because there are people that will upgrade their systems every year or two, personally I've had the same PC for the last 4 years and it does me wonders, the only upgrades I've made are to storage.
God of war became available on PC in 2022, before that it was only playable via playstation now, which was a streaming platform that you had to use a ps4 controller with, even the ps5 controllers didn't work with it, at the time of this video.
The reality of it is that I don't have to fiddle with every game I install on my PC, but I have the option too, which is great. On a console graphic settings and such are usually incredibly limited which was the point I was trying to make.
I completely understand the point you're trying to make but honestly it's a difference in opinion, I had fact checked pretty much everything I stated in the video so at the time of publishing it was right, if things have changed over the last year, then theres nothing I can do about that right now.
You also seem to be missing the points where I mention how good console gaming is, although I completely disagree with consoles being good for 10 years, they will break more times than not within 5/6 but that's how tech works, if yours has lasted longer than well done to you.
Not all PC gamers or youtubers run in the same ring, I play games, I'm not a tech channel, I don't overclock my components to get the most out of them, I use them all at factory settings so I can enjoy what I'm doing. PC's are also multi-use so spending slightly more on a PC than a console is fine for that purpose, you're right they can do a lot of the more basic stuff, I can watch netflix on my playstation, but I can promise you I would have struggled to edit this video on it.
Anyway, I think that's the majority of the things you questioned, thanks for watching!

  • @maladorsalas
    @maladorsalas 4 місяці тому

Yeah you’re making it sound like upgrading your PC is a purchasing bonus. It’s not the fact that you buy a consul. It’s good for 10 years. The only thing you need to upgrade on it is the storage and in fact, most people don’t even need to do that I’ve not upgraded my PS five but I have like six games installed and I still have space left a fair amount a terabyte of storage is a lot about the only other thing you might upgrade is the controller if you wanna go to pro controller with more features on your PC you are forced to spend three to $500 every few years upgrading that graphics card that’s just a fact you’re not doing it because you want to that’s like saying we like inflation because it increases the price of things and then we get a pay raise. It’s fucking stupid nobody likes inflation it’s a never-ending circle of pay raise increased prices pay raise increased priceswith your PCs increased requirements purchase new hardware install everything gets used to that then increase the requirements you have to purchase new hardware and install console users only have to do that once a decade, you have to do it at least twice a decade

  • @maladorsalas
    @maladorsalas 4 місяці тому

Dude you’re seriously misinformed about many things first of all game pass ultimate is 18 bucks a month not $11 a month game pass console is $11 a month and it will only let you play games from that catalog on consoles ultimate will let you play them anywhere on your phone on your PC The same catalog but only available on consoles for $11 a month and I’m not sure if you’re correct about Hogwarts Legacy being available through game pass ultimate or console at all likewise the standard edition for PS five is $75 if you have PS plus premium, you can play that for 15 hours as a trial to see if you want to buy it for free Some games you just plain can play for free but that’s a brand new game it’s not gonna be free on a PlayStation and pretty sure it was exclusive to PlayStation for a little while anyway a timed exclusive, but in any case it’s 6999 on the PS five 5999 on the PS4 Optimized for each separate download, I mean they’re individually separate unlike some games where you download the plays, and either plays this one is specifically optimized for the PS five when you download the PS five client when you downloaded on Steve you’re getting whatever it is plus all the headaches of driver issues and hardware issues and and whatever else PC gaming is a dying breed Most of you have hardware that’s way better than what they’re software for because they are now shifting from making the software for the PC and porting it to the consul. Now they’re making it for the consuls and porting it to the PC so you’re getting a game that’ll run really good at 60 FPS, even though your hardware is outrageously capable of running it at 1:20 FPSand you’re just overpaying. Your hardware is three or four times as much as either brand of consul.

The thing that your UA-camrs don’t get us the most home VC or most gamers your regular consumer gamers they play like one game maybe their kids have a game they have a game, but they really don’t play a lot of games and they’re playing a modern game. There’s a reason certain games like Fortnite are so goddamn popular and it’s because those are the games people are playing those will run on this and last Jenand nobody cares about some spec ops game from 2012 except for guys like you most likely bought it on desk and still have the desk and can Jack put it on a PS4

All PC releases (or almost all) are broken at launch and for months after, shader compilation results in stutter in most large AAA games now. Graphics cards are overpriced and you are fine with them fleecing you there but annoyed with game prices on console, when games take years to make and often hundreds of millions to make now.
The console model gives you performance on par with 'high' settings of a rig at launch. over time, obviously new GPU's come out and PC's move forwards but Pro consoles are a thing now too.... so that's not much of an issue.
You never get your money's worth in PC gaming, cause the performance will never reflect your investment fully. Valve doesnt make PC games.... so you have to beg Xbox and PlayStation to make ports...
The only reason people play on PC is.... they want to be a youtuber and it fits the dual function, they want to use cheats in online games(this is VERY common) or they are more of a technologist than a gamer.... interested in mods, benchmarking and other aspects around gaming.
    PC gaming is massively overrated.

    • @CJTheSecond925
      @CJTheSecond925  Рік тому +3

I agree with a lot that you're saying, the GPU prices are ridiculous but thats why the second hand market exists, makes it easier to obtain. /
Consoles do a great job at playing games and the optimisation of games in more recent years compared to PC is incredible, PC games coming out broken is an annoyance that does need to stop so I am with you there, however neither Xbox or Playstation make games, they both have dev studios under them to release stuff so it is kind of a mute point about the ports, theres also games that release on PC but not on consoles like Phasmophobia and Valorant before it was ported to consoles.
Theres a lot of reasons to play on PC, customisability, the mods are really great fun if you're into playing single player games and although I know they're used for cheating I personally wouldn't and most people I know in the space wouldn't either. The duel function works really well, not only for being a youtuber just for being able to do other things, with PC's generally being a power house theres so much you can do on them that it makes it worth while seeing as you can make one for double the price of a console and have more than double the functionality
I don't think PC gaming is better than consoles and vice versa, but there's always an argument for both sides

Keep in mind the life of a console is maximum at best 10 years if you keep it that way and considering sony dont shut their servers down in that time. Pc gaming is so flexible that you can live with 1 PC for more that decades just by hot swapping various parts, that will obviously be more complex as with things like motherboards, but in theory you can live with 1 pc your entire life with data untouched by anyone. Now can a console guarantee that in theory ? It is not even theorically possible to live with 1 system for over decades unless you really take care of them and then as well there the issue of sony shutting down servers, you are at the mercy of companies with consoles while PC you can play any game with the help of piracy. preservation of hardware and software is easier with PC than consoles. Nothing is impossible in the PC world, Emulation can also be done of a PS4 and later in the future of a Ps5
