  • This is my first ever attempt to develop BW film at home.
Luckily everything turned out very well!

Thanks man! Switched to Rodinal and FX-39 already and developed dozens of rolls. Happy so far:)

Thanks for your feedback! It motivates me to finally finish my latest video, haha:)
      And good luck with development!

I just developed my first roll of 35mm B&W Ilford HP5 with Cinestill DF96. Like you, I'd watched my dad do stuff like this, but it was over 50 years ago in my case. The roll is hanging up to dry now. Looks like I got some shots! Thanks for the video!!!

Amazing feeling, right?:) While drying, you can also use cinestill stories filter in Instagram to quickly convert negatives into positives on the fly.
btw, recently tried separate developer with fixer and results come out pretty promising. A bit more time consuming, but even more fun:)

@@snakeytales Do you get more contrast with separate developer and fixer? Mine seem really blah, but I'm wondering if it's just because the film is really old. Since I seem to be on the right path for developing, it might be time to try some new film.

I would say vice versa: with df96 I getting a bit more contrasty and definitely more grainer images than with Rodinal 1:50 dilution (tried with Kentmere 100 and HP5). And it’s not even a bad thing, for some scenes I like it!
      > old film
Maybe this is the case. Never tried expired film so far.

@@snakeytales Would you get more contrast if you left it a bit longer in the developer? New to all of this. They say DF96 won't work that way.

Potentially, if you work with expired film, you may need to develop it longer than with non expired one. Since df96 is all in one solution, looks like increasing time is not an option. I guess, that the only remaining parameter is the temperature? Maybe it’s worth to experiment with it and increase tmp to the value which is needed for pushing for 1 stop?

Awesome!! Images came out great 😊 df96 is so quick and only one step, it makes it more fun I think. Nice video!

Thanks! Indeed it’s very convenient and quality drop in comparison with regular processing is acceptable for me. Only one downside - it should be used in 2 months once you opened the bottle. And I only developed 10 rolls so far:( Let’s see how the 11s gonna come out:)

Hello, I have a question about the excitement during development when you rotate the spindle. Is there any damage to the process if the rotation is done back and forth for 3 minutes without stopping until the end of the process, without being restricted to 30 seconds and ten seconds, waiting for the response and thank you for posting

Hi! Tbh, I'm not an expert in film development. From my understanding, during constant agitation, developer doesn't stay on the same spot in the tank, so your film emulsion are constantly hit by a "fresh" portion of a developer. So, I would assume that you need to experiment with development time and decrease it a bit, otherwise, potentially (again, I'm not an expert here) you will get densier negatives with more contrast and pronounced highlights.

@@snakeytales Yes, this is clear. I think your experience was good, and it was okay with a great movie. It seems that you did a good job.. But from your experience in the video, how long was your development period and the number of appropriate flips?! ,, And thank you for the reply..

Thanks! I made it like described in the instructions: 10 seconds of gentle agitation for the first 10seconds and then for 5 seconds every next minute. Since this was the 1st roll and temperature was 21 degrees C, whole process took 6 minutes.

with this developer i do constant slow inversion, about 8 or so inversions per minute.
