Thank you so much for making this video and your shared enthusiasm for scanning haha. I was wondering, what do you aim for in terms of exposure during scanning, do you over-expose?

@@KoenRH2803 slightly underexposed if anything but I’ll generally correct it in capture one if I need to… every shoot is different but the same as metering for the shot, you just don’t want any highlights to blow

Thanks Craig! Can you give more detail about your little film holder bit? Don’t quite get the shark fin comment, and interested how you get it totally flat but moveable

@@ben9412 hard to explain on here but when I glue the top plate to the main plate you just glue it along the top and bottom so it grips the neg but also allows you to slide it up and down… the shark fins just create a bit of tension across the film plane.. flattening it out slightly

Interesting that you don't use a cable release to reduce any camera movement. I also wonder about the exposure, are you under/over exposing? Or does the use of the flash allow you to expose normally as the output is higher than say a light table. I use a light pad and find that my exposures will often be up to half a second.

@@mattd59 the flash duration is about 1/20,000th of a second on the V1 at 1/128th power so no need for a cable release or a long exposure… I take a flashmeter reading without the negative in place so it will be slightly under, probably 2/3rds of a stop

@@CraigFlemingStudio Ah ok, interesting. Thanks for the reply, I use a light pad, a mask and mount my camera on a copy stand. The results are decent enough, I just think they could be better. I've never had much luck with the multi shot and merge technique either.
