Never thought I would enjoy non climbing content so much on this channel!
Unbelievable, both of you. And that guy Jake should be prescribed on the NHS.
Having started climbing in part from watching Bobat videos in late 2018 to supplement running ultras, this was a very fun full circle moment for me. Proud of all of your guy's growth as athletes and people. Thanks for the years of inspiration.
Ultramarathoners are always ready to help their fellow runners, one of the best fitness communities
Everyone was so nice! Felt so supportive and no judgement for being punters
What an adventure that was, cheers for making me look epic on my way out Tommy🙏 You’ll always be my hero💪🏻❤️
love seeing the type of mental endurance that can only come from a bouldering athlete
When you've fallen off one move 10,000 times how challenging can going for jog be!
Not gonna lie I had teary eyes seeing you make it at the end. What an accomplishment. Really motivates you to get out there and crush it!
EDIT: I usually run 3 to 4km, twice a week. I was super motivated earlier and ran 5km, you know, 10% of what they did 😂 Hope there will be a follow-up discussing their experience and the aftermath and soreness during the following days!
i missed his name (jake? the guy without a shirt on) but him runnind and carelessly jumping around in between those rocks around 16:27 is honestly exuding happiness. this is a great video
Well done, you should be so proud of yourself! (both of you!) The scenery was amazing and people were sooo nice!! I expected all ultramarathons to be super competitive but this was something I would enjoy! (in another life if I liked running, that is 😂)
Jake out there looking like a Final Fantasy character
😂😂
He had just had a fresh tattoo done as well 😂
When I was younger I used to run some 10k's without much training just leveraging the basic fitness I had (from judo), but for the longer distances you need to give your body (joints, tendons, nervous system, ...) time to adapt. What you did is a bit stupid from the point of injury prevention (little bit of training would not have hurt), but yet I felt inspired by this video. Since Covid I got more serious about running and did several half marathons but an ultra marathon seems like a faraway goal, wanted to do a full marathon first. But maybe I should give it a shot and view it as a big adventure (will still prepare for it). And running on trails is the best type of running, I think most climbers would agree with that.
Huge respect to Tom, Joe and Jake, incredible effort all around. David obviously an awesome run leader, kept you going and safe. I've run a marathon around the Gower and it is no joke, hard terrain, big climbs and energy sapping sand, anyone who has run a city marathon should not underestimate how much harder a trail run can be. Genuinely impressed you made it, that took real grit.
Rest up, you'll be walking up stairs backwards for a week!
such a great video. Started goofy and fun as always, then finished with an unexpected emotional touch. Congrats Joe and Tom for both giving it your best🎉
Great video, guys. Will impressed. Tearing up at the end with you there, massive accomplishment 💪
Incredible man, I just got into running big time, and this is very very inspiring and incredibly hard. Great job Tom!
Incredible feat!
I remember running my first half-marathon a few years ago and the mental game is so difficult. The people are all super lovely and they can really be the difference between going home and crossing that finish line.
Well done!
I think you guys have better fitness than you give yourself credit for, I'd have died ! Incredible achievement Tom
Legendary. Excellent job, both of you.
Wow, moving stuff! Nice one Joe and Tom.
This is amazing congrats Joe and Tom!!! You are both absolute nutters. I loved the moment of reflection that you hadn't heard anyone say anything negative, that it was positive all the way. What a truly incredible thing to have experienced.
bouldering bobat has been there all the way through my bouldering journey of 6 years. a month ago i signed up for a 50k (with only 2 months to train) - all that time being inspired by their climbing, and now i’m being inspired for my 50K!
the biggest thing i am excited about now is the community spirit behind the runners out on the course- want to be like Jake but i might end up like Tom… hopefully not Joe, that injury sounded like no joke :(
good vibes only out there on the trails!
Tom is my favorite Bobat now
Bro that hobble of determination at 12:10... atta fuckin boy you're a runner now hahahaha next rite of passage is shitting yourself/emergency poop
From cragging or 45min approach in Rocklands to run 50k, legends. Happy to see different content, what about alpinist/mountaineering or even sport climbing from time to time!
what a g!! love to see it well done boys!!
Done a few half marathons and this makes me want to do an ultra! What a beautiful course. Amazing effort!
Well played boys! Also, that footage from the 360 cam is a trip!
What a major achievement Tom. Don't be so shy with those emotions brother. Nothing like a nice well earned cry. You don't get too many of them in life.
Couldn’t agree more.
As someone that started bouldering in March last year because of a long term running injury, this is awesome to see mate!!
I've been running for yeears and haven't even ticked a half-marathon yet 😂 You guys are mad!
Also feel for Joe, joint pains stopping you is so frustrating.
What a bonkers attempt. That was some real terrain too. I'm half way through taking 20 weeks to prep for my first attempt at a road half marathon. I would not have made it even a quarter of the way through this ultra with the amount of runs y'all had. Big ups to both of you!
This was really incredible and inspiring
I can totally relate to the emotionality after that accomplishment! Well done
Congratulations to all involved, especially Joe. He fought to keep going and made half way even with pain. THATS determination and a role model with the never quit attitude, you'll get it next time 100%. and congrats the rest for finishing.
Good effort. Climbing got me into running, I love the way they compliment each other. Definitely train for the next one though!
Wow, I hate running and you inspired me to want to run. Such a great video guys. Joe, you’re a legend, and Tom, wow brother you and the ponch made it 🫡
really enjoyed this. nice one.
Was a pleasure having you guys along for the ride. And if you're for some more ultra running adventures give us a shout ❤
So inspiring! I would be interested to see a recovery video and lessons learned.
Completely ill advised and ridiculous but so sick!!
How long till we get a Bobat/Geowizard straight line mission collab then??
That was awesome!
Mad respect lads.
Also nice to see you lot in one of the most beautiful parts of Wales although I doubt you got to enjoy it :P
SUCH a sick video!!!!
I actually came from ultra to climbing. Had to undergo hipsurgery due to a few 100 milers and 25 years of skateboarding so I started climbing instead like four years ago. Made my day this video! Brought a tear to my eyes, god I miss being in that kind of agony! Big thanks for the video and I hope Joe gets another go! And you are todays fooking superhero Tom!!! 💪💪 Next time also bring Mr Boat himself, I know he can do it and I knooooow he would have to dig the deepest thus he would love it the most (once finished atleast 🤣)
I know the feels of the trying not to cry at the end. I ran a Marathon on very little training and sat and sobbed for no reason for about 5 minutes after I finished.
Wow, respect!
Absolutely legendary behaviour Tom, big ups
I mean not surprised Joe hurt his foot, trying to do this kind of thing without any training is savage
hahaha amazing! Huge props 🙌🏻
I am glad you showed how difficult it is rather than prentending it was easy for youtube. You really should train 😂 that being said... well done, pure grit.
Man I feel like getting into running
I am a marathon runner, who boulders as cross training. I can't imagine them finishing unless they walk most of it.
8:09 hrs for 50k so about 7hr marathon pace. Lots of tough surfaces though but yes hiking speed. No training for that duration is tough either way.
you guys are legends
This was amazing!
Tom's a BEAST! And Joe woulda had that as well for sure!
As a fellow ultra runner/boulderer well done boys !
Absolutely amazing. Well done to all you guys. I cant even run for a bus😂
Yes Tom you’re my hero
Legendary!
Absolutely unbelievable shift from both the lads here. Monumental stuff gang, I think I'd have died 1km in, let alone 50km, what a complete send.
Jesus this was such an insanely cool video and the positivity of the guide was simply amazing!! I just recently picked up running again and this makes me consider a long trail next year 😅
"I'm just trying not to cry right now."
"Send it bro!"
This is the kind of masculinity and friendship that needs to be normalized. Feel the feels!
Hell yah Tom, you should be "proper chuffed" with that one, I honestly didn't think you guys had a chance. F the pain it's all mental!
Love how your example of cardio was the 45min approach to Roadside in Rocklands lol
That walk in is probably the most cardio I'd ever done before this!
This was fucking awesome!
Wow very impressive, i don't know how your feet survived that, must have some good shoes. Big effort, Well done
Lets gooooo Tom!
Great video, super inspiring stuff. Are you hooked on running now? Or never again?
The ability of climbers to dive headfirst into another sport without a care in the world is both impressive and scary. Last summer I remember 2 showing up to the skatepark and dropping into the deep end of the bowl while wearing SANDALS. No fear. No hesitation.
Booold move to go for this distance and with some serious elevation gain. Fun to watch challenge.
And I thought I was crazy for doing a Half Marathon without training after some Marathon-running friend made the statement that "every fit and younger person should be able to do a Half Marathon". Throuh it went well, I got hooked and am now running for 1/2 year+ regularly.
The boys got it no doubt
Nice to see a guest appearance of Luke the center manager!
Ben is goated 🙏
Well done Tom!
I did 6k on the weekend without ever running before, and learned a similar lesson to joe, you might be fine with fitness but lack of conditioning is probably going to be an issue. Feet hurt quite a bit after (might have had the wrong shoes tbf maybe that was his issue) but yeah really enjoyed it, 6 days off and I reckon I'll give it another crack tomorrow.
I'm no runner, but I am curious if the pain in the good leg was worse the day after, for all the compensating it had to do... I find that often causes new injury on the good side.
Also, you guys gottaget that guy bouldering with you!
If you mean the Jake guy he already does. I've seen him at my local wall before.
Bring Jake climbing! Wooo
Hope you can see why you need to train for these events I have done multiple ultramathons you will have a lot more fun if you train for them as they are really not that much fun when you have to walk for hours at the end because you have blown up. I would recommend The Wall 69 mile for a next event as that is a really good starter one to get into the bigger distances.
What is it with climbers doing marathons without training? Is this a thing now? Tough luck there, Joe but fantastic achievement Tom. Seriously well done.
The SiS Tropical is easily one of the worst tastes on the gel market. Congrats, you found it!
Seriously though, brilliantly job guys, I teared up a little when you finished. Welcome to ultra running, next stop UTMB? 😅
Sat here with all my long term running related injuries worrying for your bodies😅
There's something in this running and constant enduring I tell you!
Let’s goooooo Tom
Shirtless guy is a mood 🤘
god damn
I did an ultra on no training, previously the furthest I had run was a 10k. By the end I had cramp so bad that my legs were bruised. At one point I kept falling over from cramp and I rolled / crawled about 100m.
I want to know what you guys‘ recovery looked like! How long did you suffer afterwards?
Surprisingly okay? Couldn't walk the day after and literally couldn't eat enough food. But two days on it was just mild pain in my legs that faded after a week or so. Been running a bit since too.
@@BoulderingBobat Great to hear! Get on Strava :D How was Joe?
Jake’s a legend , does he have a channel ?
me after watching david goggins once
😂😂
Trail running will save the world
08:07 mins and I'm not 100 percent convinced haha but would hope you smash it with your best efforts!.. and holy shit you did! Hats off!?!?!
Congratulations. I had literally zero faith in you 😂
oh… my…
Joe's reaction to trying the gel HAHAHA. Also, the noises Tom made when tired from running had me feeling some type of way...
We a running channel now
“Running”
need to see how broken he was the next couple of days
Couch to 50k
How was the rehab? 😉
Went from climbing 4+ years to trail running earlier this year, and just completed my first 50k last weekend. It’s such an amazing experience and accomplishment. I have noticed that the running community is far more supportive and welcoming than the climbing community too.
Damn lol, definitely possible but y'all begging to get injured
