HOLY SMOKES that's stupid fast! Schools out for Summer now, my speed run parking lot should be fairly clear to see what I can get mine to do later in July.
I thought it was going to be expensive after that crash. Unreal that the minute the brakes go the only thing to stop it in the run off area is a huge pile of nice soft stuff!
Driftomaniacs Driftomaniacs that was lucky my friend, might start selling stuff in my man cave to get more RCs, don't know if you've watched it on my channel brother. ua-cam.com/video/N_gOc8OoKpEO/v-deo.htmlmg 😱 I want one , 😊😊😊
My 1/8 rc shimmies too! Only above 60mph, wonder if its due to a flat spot on the tires!!! I bought a new (expensive) radio thinking it was the traxxas tsm glitching!!!!!!!
Yowzers that's fast! I didn't realize you could run 6s lipo on the 5700 KV motor. Heck, I thought 3s was beyond Castle's recommendation, lol. Great vid 👍🏻
well they don't advise 6s for the motor however with the sensored setup on the mamba x it shuts down the motor if the temp gets too high. A few passes and it shuts down then as you see it cools down and will do a bit more. On 4S it will run as long as you want with this same setup
Looking online an 8S X-Maxx gives out about 6.4hp, and that's 4 wd with a lot of rubber to lay down that power. You could try it but the amount of money you'd spend vs the end result might mean you're better off buying something else. Also when you say 5hp one of the big things I came across online is how to define electric motors in terms of HP. Your LHS may have a better idea. Why the 5hp BTW? It's unusual not to be talking in Kv's
Should i swap my VXL motor for a Castle 3800, 5700 or 7700? Or should i just leave it? Want to get high speed when i want, and long runtime without getting hot other times- any thoughts?
Fredrik, (Assuming we're talking about a 4tec let me know if it's another car) if you're wanting something that'll run fast all day long on 3S without heat issues etc. Then I'd say the 3800 would be best, the 5700 will run good but you may need to play around with the gearing to get the best out of it. I'm fitting a smaller pinion at the weekend BTW. I'd avoid the 7700 motor as the 4tec will be too heavy for it/and on 3S
Well the VXL is 3500 so the 3800's got a bit more top end but still loads of punch. One option I've been looking at on amazon a few minutes ago is the 4600kv which someones suggested I try. The 3800 should be faster than the VXL which is 3500kv. It will seem noticably quicker. There's a thought that with the stock gearing I'm running 35/55 that the 5700kv may not be reaching it's full potential. So I'm going to drop down in pinion size this weekend, this should allow the motor to reach it's peak revs and hence max power. Hope that makes sense, I learn something new myself daily. Often from bouncing ideas around with you guys, I'll then go and look around online or ask at my LHS.
Driftomaniacs ok. So i have decided to buy the 4600kv in a bundle, but i am not sure if i should get the mamba x or the sidewinder(since im not going to run 6s). Thought of either using stock gearing or 29, 55, and i dont know if the esc makes a difference in heat being generated.
Little quick maths here.. if 35/55 will get 70 mph out of a 3500kv set up on 3s. Then theoretically with 5700kv on 6s would have a top speed of 228 mph... I think you're over working your motor and it cant overcome drag any more. A 4600kv would probably be faster in the long run
That's assuming no air resistance! I'm going to try another area I've used before, this ones not ideal but only about 10 mins from home. If it cracks the ton I'll be happy if not then going down a few KV might help. The thought of 128 is scary never mind 228! The thing is whilst I think I'm not easing off early when I look at the video I think I am, and I should get on the power earlier, as the 5700kv will deliver it's power at the top end e.g. it should start to hustle in the top third of the run. I do believe you on the KV's as I switched from a 5700 to a 3600 on the arrma granite and the 3600kv hustled it twice as fast due to the power being in the right place. This is much lighter though so I'll give it a couple more tries. I also may change that body.
Exactly. Theoretical top speed. If you wanted to run the 5700 I would gear it down to a 20 tooth pinion and itll probably break the ton, maybe 110. Godspeed haha
Mark that's a really, really good point on taking the gearing down a notch, I can try that fairly easily. Definitely a 'Doh! why didn't I think of that moment. I'll see what I can do over the holiday weekend.
I was goin to buy the ceramic bearings that you have recommended. However, one of them are no longer on sale: amzn.to/2j4mCSN Do you know if i can find these bearings somewhere else?
Fredrik apologies for the delay I wanted a minute to have a look. Some budget ones are here - amzn.to/2lI9ktA However I'd go for these Boca ones instead - amzn.to/2Mw8lIk a four pack but the Boca ones are a brand I'd trust. Sorry for delay I'd spotted this comment the other day but only just found time to have a look at alternatives. The thing rolls so much better on ceramics all round it's untrue.

Game On! I've spent about 2 hours online tonight looking on the satellite map to check out new speed spots.
Fast enough to kill bugs!
Humidity today here’s not good bug central tonight I moved to CA for the dry heat!
Fantastic vid brother again and fantastic speed test , a bit expensive for me but still a great looking car brother 😊😁😊😁

that is FUC*ING FAST
I'll tell you at 6 to 8 feet away you'd be right there!
Nice!!!..i've never had an on road rc car..but i'll be building a TT-02 touring car soon.
My 1/8 rc shimmies too! Only above 60mph, wonder if its due to a flat spot on the tires!!! I bought a new (expensive) radio thinking it was the traxxas tsm glitching!!!!!!!
dial down the steering to 20% and it seems to cure it

The rating on motors are for the cycle of your battery...15-30 mins of str8 bashing....a few passes ur good, watch temps.
That's fast!
:-)
Absolutely amazing!! what gears you runnin?? Did you upgrade esc? Awesome vid bro!
Castle mamba X. Stock 35/55 gears. More coming shortly - drag rear tires have arrived tonight!
Awesome!! Ive got a 4tech with a sidewinder 3 combo 5700kv on 3s. Must switch to 6s!
And here am I thinking that running 4s on my mini revo is stupid
glad to meet a like minded fellow, you never know if it'll work until you try it!
Hey man im thinking of putting a 5hp motor in a traxxas bandit do you think it'll work?
er...No! : -)
Driftomaniacs I'll ask my rc shop

So if weather allows can we race in two weeks when I'm back in Jersey
I always have more I can come
Hey friend..I see you....5700kv...6s....our secret😉😉.

Driftomaniacs so is the 3800 better than the VXL, or does it have lower top speed etc? Would you recommend swapping it out?

tires to small for 6s especially on the pavement I had a 4tec doing 90mph on 3s I sold it because it's to small lol

I dont think they're spinning. My guess is that it isn't getting into its power band.
