Let's see here... Magic Bonfires of Immortality - Dark Souls Automated Capsuleer Cloning System - EVE Online Whatever Medical Equipment the Doctors Use - Grand Theft Auto Series
EVE's is pretty much identical to Elite's, except it is actually explained in lore. They keep cadavers surgically sculpted to your shape, and the capsule will take a snapshot of your mental process before death, and then transfer it over to said "clone". The reason why they can do something so costly is because it is the faction supporting you okay-ing you becoming a capsuleer. It is a privilege earned through service, and assigned to a distinct few amongst the billions spread among the stars. All the space rats and such that you kill? There's no capsule that comes out of them for a reason. They're really dead.
Actually, you can't learn how your ancestors died by experience in the Animus because the simulation in any given ancestor's timeline only extends to the point when the genetic material used to create your next ancestor is past on, and thus every one of your ancestors survived long enough to reproduce and you would never be able to experience their death as it happened.
Amokriin Prolgiid well now you can just get the DNA off the body which would theoretically remove such a restriction since the DNA comes straight from the person you’re experiencing the life of, as of Assassin’s Creed: Origins, anyway.
you know what'll be cool? if there was a video game where, if you die to an enemy, that enemy takes off a mask and it turns out to be you. and you keep fighting on.
How about the first Prince of Persia game, for....I think the Game Cube? The unnamed prince is telling the girl...who's name I forget at the moment...about every thing he did after releasing the Sands of Time from a huge hourglass, and then undid, by jamming the dagger into the hourglass, gather the sands back up, and winding time back to before he and his father invaded her kingdom, and obtained the sands. So when you die, you hear him say different things, before resuming the game. 'Wait...that's not what happened...'
@@hyrulianhero9004 because in the first prince of persia he is telling farah what happened and in the second and third prince of persia he really dies because it is happening no that it happened
In SPORE, specifically in space stage, every time your main ship is destroyed (by any means) the game says "But thanks to the advancements of cloning technology you are still alive." and then the player respawns in any colony now matter how developed (even the ones that have just town hall or terrascore 0)
>presequels You mean just prequel? MGS 3 and 5 literally came before all of them in the timeline. They didn't come before a sequel or anything, (pre-sequel, a la Borderlands), they just came at the beginning of the timeline. Here's how the series actually goes, as far as its timeline is concerned: Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops (PSP game) Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker (PSP game) Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain Metal Gear Metal Gear 2 Metal Gear Solid Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Metal Gear: Revengance
What about the Hospital in GTA V? I've blown myself up hundreds of times with RPG's, Sticky bombs, Grenades, and Cars, and somehow they always manage to revive me for a measly $5000. Yep, that's $5000 to be RESURRECTED FROM THE DEAD. You don't even need that amount!
Also in gta v online the first time you die you get that god guy to tell you that your basically invincible, this or the hospital seems better than the insurance company, I love elite dangerous and it's mysterious insurance though... But yea

Also, the unnamed prince is telling that princess...whose name I can't recall at the moment...about your adventure. So even if your dagger was empty, and you 'die', you hear the prince say something like 'Wait...that isn't what happened'
It was the most realistic, which also made it insanely difficult. I mean, you walk into town carrying a sword, a knife and a giant gauntlet, dressed like an assassin, in a world where guards already know what assassins look like. They always noticed you instantly, which in retrospect was pretty logical and underappreciated. By brotherhood you could sprint by them wearing loads if armor and half a dozen weapons and they don't even notice.
+gamingmurshid na man i remember getting chased across the map only to realise i had to fight at least 30 people. Of course i did it and got the achievement so no worries
gamingmurshid It had the best sense of "stealth." You're carrying weapons and wearing an assassin's outfit. If you want to succeed, you have to be sneaky. You're not even supposed to get into fights. You're supposed to get in, kill the target and get out without leaving a mark. Now we have Syndicate, which is literally about getting into huge fights and taking over a whole city.
[Or preferring the [O]'s Ghosts instead. nearly-indestructible too so long as the Hostile encounters aren't entirely similar in [Paracausal] status and Might.]
The old Futurama Video game has a similar mechanic. Everytime Fry, Bender, and Leela die they get cloned and a new Fry, Leela, and/or Bender emerges. Doctor Zoidberg also becomes playable via a time machine crank that sends people two minutes back into the past, but takes two minutes to crank.
Conker's Bad Fur Day: You technically do die, but similar to how a cat has nine lives, a squirrel has "as many lives as it thinks it can get away with". Whenever you find a squirrel tail, Gregg the Grim Reaper will give you another chance.
The Darksign from Dark Souls, cursed brand of the undead. While this nifty trinket ensures you can never permanently die, if you fail to recover your hard-earned souls & humanity before dying again then you may just die a little on the inside regardless.
The New-U system in Borderlands 2 will actually encourage you to keep dying. One of the things it will say after you die is that your pointless crusade makes Hyperion Money.
+Nathanael Unger I thought this too, but he doesn't actually specify time. He could be saying that "death is only a short distance away". 'Short', relative to space travel-scale distances at any rate.
You missed the undead curse in Dark Souls, which makes you immortal for the low low price of making you look ugly if you die and if you lose your motivation to live turns you into a mindless zombie.
EVE Online's clone system is a pretty obvious anti-perma-death tech thing aswell. the whole game makes a big deal out of how you're basically immortal because you have access to the infinite clone vat bay machine. I know its been mentioned before but I'm gunna mention it again because I love it!
I feel like alternate universes for Bioshock Infinite, time paradox from metal gear solid, and Animus from assassin's Creed shouldn't really count. In Bioshock Infinite, that's actually you dying and another alternate universe you just catching up to where you left off. In Metal Gear Solid, that's just the game reminding you that since this happens in the past, and already happened with your character surviving, then your death couldn't have happened. In assassin's Creed, it's a computer simulation, and thus your character, Desmond Miles can't be killed by the simulation because Desmond was never in any danger to begin with. It's like a video game inside a video game.
Someone needs to point out to the OX team that the New-U stations in Borderlands are actually non-canonical, which is why both Roland AND Handsome Jack stay dead.
I remember in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, the Prince was telling the story so anytime you die he goes "wait no, that didn't happen, let me start over"
Elder Scrolls Online, you technically can't die, since you already died and now you're just a leftover piece of soul that regenerates a new body whenever your old one dies.
I never knew Liz revives you when you die because through the whole game I never actually died XD. Maybe it's because I chose easy difficulty. The game is easy anyway
+AsbestosRat 037 still easy compared to Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 from 2007, playing that was like trying to blow up an Abrams tank by throwing tea towels.
+AgentKowalski42 Same here. I never knew about that either. Never died. Just goes to show how much you miss out by staying alive. Kinda like the Arkham series. Sometimes I died on purpose in certain boss battles just to hear the witty retorts.
+Amasian Gearbox said earlier this year that they were hiring for what I assume is Borderlands 3. Which means it's definitely in the pipeline, but due to Battleborn, we won't see it for a while.
"Death is never more than a few light-seconds away" "Death is never more than a few meters away" "Death is never more than a few miles away" "Death is never more than a few feet away"
The Sheikah Slate from BoTW. It might not revive you if you die but it lets you teleport out of bad situations as often as you want. Also Spyro in the Reignited trilogy can just kind of "ok let's do this one last time"
Your joking right, sarcasm doesn't translate well to text, I mean no trail and error, no practicing the mechanics and no satisfaction or replay value just your dead, too bad, please insert 45 bucks to retry. I know your joking but I've seen people wright some pretty stupid stuff on the Internet.
+fruitycolax Imagine that being implemented in Oculus Rift. When you die in game two spikes will impale your eyes and send a lethal amount of electricity to your brain. It also deletes your Facebook profile and tells your friends you hate them. It's like you practically never existed!
+fruitycolax There IS a game like that. You buy the game (for full price, about 50€), and when you die, Steam blocks your game so you can't ever play again. The problem is, they created this game model (which would be extra awesome in a survival game)... for a CoD clone, where you die in a hit or two, and life expectancy of a common player is less than 5 minutes. So... yeah. Money well spent. There is also that Fantasy RPG that was presented at PAX where the same thing happens, except I think this time it was F2P, so everybody seemed to love it.
Actually the one in borderlands makes alot of sense, first off if jack were to take off your your file it would take so very long to find it that at the rate your progressing, he just doesnt have time to do so as your past is never REALLY revealed, also if he were to just shut it off it would mean that all of his men that use it would have the chance of dying aswell
The New-U stations aren't cannon, says so in Dragon's Keep. And the impression I'm getting from MGS 4, MGS 3 is actually the declassified after action report. Snake does tell Otacon that since it was declassified, a bunch of rookies have tried to learn Big Boss's CQC.
narration jokes: Bastion, in Bastion of you walk off the world or die the narrator will say how you died, then say they were just kidding and you'll be back where you last were
MGS is on this list despite not fitting the criteria. mandatory dislike. dark souls would be closer to making the list then MGS. yes its not science, but at least the darksign is a tangible "gadget" as opposed to simply "no, that would break the story". (not saying dark souls should be on this list)
Nick V I literally cannot find dialogue in BL2 that mentions New-U as canon and the devs themselves SAID its not canon *SPOILER* Then why does Jack or Roland stay dead if the New-U exist? Roland DNA can be deleted but why would the owner of Hyperion himself be deleted? Thats why its not canon.

+Jesse Clark combat was also really hard it was impossible to win a fight against 10 ppl
Yeah there's a lot of hit and run tactics with huge hordes of people. Its still a good standalone game, but not the best AC one ofc
"This is why he's called Handsome Jack and not.... Intelligent Jack."
I applaud you sir, truly, I haven't had a laugh that good for a while.
One way to ward off death. Always have one fairy in a bottle in the Legend of Zelda games.
[Or preferring the [O]'s Ghosts instead. nearly-indestructible too so long as the Hostile encounters aren't entirely similar in [Paracausal] status and Might.]
Just remember all my fellow commanders, loitering is a crime punishable by DEATH.
Don't loiter with an Anaconda, or any ship that will blow your entire credit balance if you die.
I really like the respawn references in Sunset Overdrive. Very tongue in cheek, like Borderlands referencing basically everything.
The Darksign from Dark Souls, cursed brand of the undead. While this nifty trinket ensures you can never permanently die, if you fail to recover your hard-earned souls & humanity before dying again then you may just die a little on the inside regardless.
"A secret pile of booker corpses."
It is the bodies in the river around the boat when you first arrive at the lighthouse I wager.
The New-U system in Borderlands 2 will actually encourage you to keep dying. One of the things it will say after you die is that your pointless crusade makes Hyperion Money.
Every Lego game ever, you just reappear and become invincible for a few seconds, no technology at all.
ikr lol
Can we all chip in and buy Mike a new hoodie? He only seems to have that purple one.
what about spore? in the space stage advances in technology allows your pilot to escape and have his ship cloned
Mario fan I think the pilot dies and a new one is placed as captain of the ship.
NO read the death screen also the timeline calls it losing
Sorry I didn't mean to capitalize the no
Also it’s not as good as the others
I want a Ghost. But it has to have Dinklage's voice
+Mario Bonanno #Dinklebot4Ever
No Morgan Freeman his voice.
I want MatPat
#Ghostpat
WEIRDxGRIM I would take Freeman over North anyday of the week
Harrison Fords voice
"Glados, ever heard of Netflix?"
One thing is for sure. She's never heard about chill.
how can you not have Spore's space age on this list? you get destroyed a TON, but your planet of things always revives you!
You mention Elizabeth but not Vita-Chambers...
Would just be repeating the Borderlands bit.
+Demagogue but whodunnit first?
Peter Murphy
Probably neither.
Demagogue out of the two, you know what i meant
***** yes, i was asking using rhetoric
You know, if Scientists invented a pill to make us immortal...
I'd probably choke on it.
Technically Borderlands 2 New-U stations are for the purpose of gameplay. It is not canon.
I think it's mentioned in the Tiny Tina DLC
"How does your main character ressurect?"
Void Bastards: Yeah about that...
A lightyear is a unit of distance, not time.
+Nathanael Unger I thought this too, but he doesn't actually specify time. He could be saying that "death is only a short distance away". 'Short', relative to space travel-scale distances at any rate.
FlamePhoenix2009 Fair enough.
Nathanael Unger Isn't it both?
A lightyear is the distance that light will travel in one exact year. It's a measure of distance, as far as I'm aware.
Right but a year is still an increment of time.
You missed the undead curse in Dark Souls, which makes you immortal for the low low price of making you look ugly if you die and if you lose your motivation to live turns you into a mindless zombie.
The original Bioshock's mechanic of respawning in a Vita-Chamber had similarly spoilery reasons for keeping Jack alive.
yes also delta a big daddy in bioshock 2
Should’ve been more like: weirdest ways video games keep us respawning
don't forget the jump off a cliff mission in borderlands2
Someone needs to point out to the OX team that the New-U stations in Borderlands are actually non-canonical, which is why both Roland AND Handsome Jack stay dead.
one of them isnt fully dead though ;')
Bishop Gale Well, he could be, doesn't Rhys have the option to squish the eye?
Side quests are pretty much non-canonical, too.
Steven Jessop So like 80% of the game is pretty much pointless.
Depends on what you mean by 'pointless'.
I remember in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, the Prince was telling the story so anytime you die he goes "wait no, that didn't happen, let me start over"
Collecting Squirrel Tails in Conker's Bad Fur Day. Conker even thinks its odd.
DETERMINATION was forgotten, but it's not quite a gadget
+xXHonoredYautja96Xx But it refused.
*dun dundun dun dun dun dun dundun dun dun dun*
Yeeaaahhhh, does allow for some nice comedy moments though. Pointing this out fills me with
smugness
Wait if you can come back to life through pop culture references
I AM A GOD
Well, the whole BioShock saga has a way to revive you - let's not forget the Vita-Chambers, much like the New-U from Borderlands!
Elder Scrolls Online, you technically can't die, since you already died and now you're just a leftover piece of soul that regenerates a new body whenever your old one dies.
In Shadow of Mordor, you are being constantly resurrected by Celebrimbor the spooky ghost
Changing history through reading and writing a happy ending on the paper on the writemachine in the Resident Evil Saga :)
I never knew Liz revives you when you die because through the whole game I never actually died XD. Maybe it's because I chose easy difficulty. The game is easy anyway
+AgentKowalski42 ever heard of 1999 mode
+AsbestosRat 037 still easy compared to Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 from 2007, playing that was like trying to blow up an Abrams tank by throwing tea towels.
+AgentKowalski42 Same here. I never knew about that either. Never died. Just goes to show how much you miss out by staying alive. Kinda like the Arkham series. Sometimes I died on purpose in certain boss battles just to hear the witty retorts.
Same
+AgentKowalski42 the last fight was quite brutal tho on hard and 1999
the Hospital -> Grand theft auto
Eve DUST 514 keeps sending out clones of yourself whenever you die, your mind is just transferred over.
Fun Fact: In Destiny’s sequel, Destiny 2, sometimes your Ghost will say, “Try not to die so much, I don’t *like* resurrecting you, ya know.”
DETERMINATION
was looking for this, as this would be one of the only ones that really prevents you from death
DETERMINATION and CHANGING TIME LINES XD
DETEMMIENATION!
Yeah, I was thinking it, too!
determination can run out
God I love Sunset Overdrive!
Man, I really want BL3
No, you dont
SuperJoshgames Oh ok
+Amasian Did you play Tales from the borderlands?
+Amasian Gearbox said earlier this year that they were hiring for what I assume is Borderlands 3.
Which means it's definitely in the pipeline, but due to Battleborn, we won't see it for a while.
Same and I want another season of tales from the borderlands
Prince of Persia was funny. He's telling the story so when you die he says "Wait no that's not how it happened" lol
Even when you have no money the New-U machine it will still revive you. Weird right? Even weirder how handsome Jack didn't save his own DNA onto it.
the "kill me now i come back stronger" pills from the tf2 comic
I've always wonder how people in fps games like Halo, or COD respawn. Are they clones? Do you have a lot of identical twins?
+Francisco José Díaz López Huh, never thought of that, good point.
It's one thing if you're playing as a generic mook like in Battlefront. Presumably you're technically taking control of a fresh generic soldier
Technically, "Light-Seconds" would be considered a distance, just like light years. Yay, science and common sense, no offense Outsidexbox!
+Xortsa I was just sayin, no need to get mad
or be a dick
+Lethal Gizmo He was talking in distance, not time.
You are however the third person to completely misunderstand what he said.
"Death is never more than a few light-seconds away"
"Death is never more than a few meters away"
"Death is never more than a few miles away"
"Death is never more than a few feet away"
@@watsgoinonhere1 That and I'm sure it was a cheeky nod to the whole "parsecs" thing in the original Star Wars.
Are we just going to ignore the fact that when Ghost scans something he looks like Guilty Spark with his laser from Halo 3
*shot of jontron scuttling around covered in flextape screaming for death*
Does bonfires/lamps count?
+Greytechsy Technically not tech, but once you realize you are an unstoppable force due to an inability to die, it becomes a big power trip.......
+TheAsylumCat yeah but then you realise that all the enemies are back again.
Well... you DO die. You even get deader.
Jane is gorgeous!
I just realised that I never died in Bioshock Infinite :0
The Sheikah Slate from BoTW. It might not revive you if you die but it lets you teleport out of bad situations as often as you want.
Also Spyro in the Reignited trilogy can just kind of "ok let's do this one last time"
I have done the math on New-U stations in Borderlands 2, they cost 8.2% of your total cash per respawn.
Undertale: Frisks determination.
Sans The Skeleton not a gadget
yep basicly firsk turns back time to the last save point
I wish that when I pay £45 for a new game when I die the games over forever. It adds immersion!
+KawaiiController that was a joke.
+Fadedgogeta And terraria's hardcore mode you can put on your character if you die you die for real no respawns
dark souls 2. you don't ever fully die you just become hollow
Luna is best pony thats the first two games
Its basically all games. In DS3 you just come back unembered.
8 signs that you are the protaganist: cant die, immune to one shot attacks (scientist from prey 1 shotted by mimics?)
You forgot BioShock 1/2's Adam Machines
+Totole du Vrangr Garzjal (the Totodile) Vita Chambers
*Vita Chambers
I'll be honest with you (as a happy ps4 gamer). outsidexbox is way better than that playstation thing.
The "restart from last checkpoint" button
The New-U stations aren't cannon, says so in Dragon's Keep. And the impression I'm getting from MGS 4, MGS 3 is actually the declassified after action report. Snake does tell Otacon that since it was declassified, a bunch of rookies have tried to learn Big Boss's CQC.
narration jokes: Bastion, in Bastion of you walk off the world or die the narrator will say how you died, then say they were just kidding and you'll be back where you last were
New-U stations aren't canon, they're a game mechanic.
MGS is on this list despite not fitting the criteria. mandatory dislike.
dark souls would be closer to making the list then MGS. yes its not science, but at least the darksign is a tangible "gadget" as opposed to simply "no, that would break the story". (not saying dark souls should be on this list)
What about ben and ed?
And Undertale, kinda
ed is dead
I miss sunset overdrive that was such a good game
That Ghost character emotes almost like Portal 2's Wheatley! Who did the animation for Ghost I wonder? Can't find that anywhere.
BL2 New-U is not canon to the plot.
Yes it is...in the very quest they used that clip from. It comes up after a permadeath of an NPC as well.
+Nick V no, it isnt.
borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/New-U_Station
The wiki argues with the dialog in game...so I'll stick with what the game says.
Nick V One of the developers himself said that it wasnt canon..........
New-U Stations aren't actually canon, so...
Yes, yes they are
Bed in minecraft
Andy is by far my fav host. Never fails to make me laugh
God of war 4,resorection stone witch can be used by BOY and brings you back alive like you have been told to take out the garbage until 5 and it is 4:59 and you haven't done it yet.
