I have a buddy of mine that has a piece of ground that was 59 acres and bought another 36 that borders the 59. Even when it was just 59 acres it hunts alot bigger than 59 acres. The way it lays it just seems so much bigger. It might not make sense to alot of people but it's crazy how much bigger the property seems like it is.
great points 😄 I wish state and federal land managers listened to you more. It sucks seeing 500-acre or more parcels with limited game on it.

I was on a club in MS that I finally had to get out of because it was super hilly, which caused all the members to use their ATVs constantly ... it was SUPER frustrating.
Everyone around us killed good deer... 😅
They looked at me and my son like we had 3 heads when I told them we had walked to stand 18 or so. It is 1.5 miles in and a heck of a walk my first time in.
Of course the roads ran right through the MIDDLE of 3000 acres. Tons of land and nothing good to hunt....
Tons of turkey 🦃 though which was why I got in to start with .. but in the end wasn't worth it.

Questions 1 & 4 - you do it out of season or right before. Preasure comes down to two key elements - 1) type & 2) frequency. Typically, deer aren't very affected by farming equipment like you'd be using, especially not before season. In many cares, not much even during season unless you're plowing through bedding. On edges you're fine. Hunting preasure is a completely different story. Question 2 & 3) yes, your small gene hunting will absolutely hurt your deer hunting if it's anywhere neer food or bedding. Two completely different hunting approaches as well. You're going to have to sacrifice one a decent amount.

In my wheelhouse with these under 100 acre Sturg-ensis plans/videos . Unfortunately I don’t have a captain license, no past generation of whitetail boat driving tutelage and still a greenhorn to the land. Property has those built in topography and surrounding support. I just need a few tips and potentially for other viewers. Herd is solid, camera verified, most nocturnal, improved around pre-rut, rut with sporadic sights before and after rut. Mixed hardwood with edges of scattered pines and low land swamp in the north. 900 elevation in the south with shelves every 100 ft decreasing exponentially to the north. Season ends in 2 weeks, question is start with creating edge on transition from pines and hardwood? Or small transition food plots? No to very small AG to the south and north but more personal farmer plots (no Hunter pressure 360). Or hinge cut corridors first? I’d love the boss to come out for a day or Dylan (who has done more Bama properties?- lol) thanks for any tips. Oh, small about of browse, some rye, clover on property borders/access paths surrounding property. Small creek down the 1st 1/3 of property running east to northwest. Ordering some seed soon and thoughts on switchgrass in Bama? Thanks even if I don’t get some tips I know you guys are busy, thank you for all your videos they are informative, vast, professional with some tasteful humor. Thoughts on a “Winged habitat Solutions” channel for outside of whitetail season??!! It would be amazing!
Thank you. 105ac 1-3ac with a close neighbor that shoots. Then a 6ac connecting to a 9ac field. Not a lot of woods. I’ll be making some bedding thickets. Best plantings?
I absolutely love WHS. I’ve learned a ton. And this spring, I’m making some changes on my property. Ironically, I have the classic 40 acres that you refer to a good bit. I am going to ask a few sincere questions here, though. How am I to implement some of these strategies (actually work my land) without spooking out these areas or causing pressure? Also, are my days of small game hunting in early October, for squirrels for example, over if I’m wanting to change my whitetail luck? Should I avoid fishing my pond in the summer, that sits on the front 3rd of my property to avoid pressure? How am to do some necessary brush hogging in late August/early September and still avoid putting pressure on my land? I ask these questions, because I’m not sure how to maintain a balance. Great info Jeff. Have been paying attention to your videos ALOT and have started to manage my property. I'm a very small plot at 10acres but im surrounded by 150 of AG so timberland improvement and cover is my main battle plan right now along with a couple small food plots on either end of property.

Admittedly I had been not so smart when it came to management in prior years so I had kind of "ruined" the hunting around but after even just some basic cleanup up the timber I do have on property im starting to see more movement of wildlife. We went from almost zero wildlife movement to now seeing Does,coyotes,grouse and even a few moose on camera.

Jeff, our woods is being over taken with Japanese barberry. Should i eliminate it, or leave for deer?
I’ve got a narrow 5 acre piece of property that connects to a couple large parcels. I’ve started hinge cutting to create cover. If burning isn’t an option would raking the ground cover(leaves) bare allow native vegetation to seed just like burning would?
Burning is actually rarely needed in the North 1/2 of the country. Kind of a fad?!
You need sunlight to hit the forest floor...and hardwood regen from those cuttings. All you need 😁

That's how I killed my buck this year. Stood up, and he was 50 yards away, I just couldn't see him. He ran about 100 yards. Gave him the mehhh and then the boom stick went off
Jeff, on 40-acre lot, how many acres would you designate for food plot - plots?
Anywhere from 1 to 5 depending on many different factors...there is no set %
Hey Jeff looking a 40 plot that has been clear cut on the side of a ridge in the middle of harwoods. Only one acess point that a atv would need to be used mainly. Would i need to put all my plots towards the access on the front cut walking trails around the 40 acres. And let ever thing just grow up and cut trials throw it for deer to use?
ATV and 40 acres? Those 2 don't go together.

One of my woodlots is only 15 acres, and I’ve taken bucks the past two seasons following these concepts. Looking forward to implementing them on a 50 acre woods we’re picking up.

It depends on the hunting pressure on the neighbor and if they have cover, open fields, a stand or blind and where your access and holding cover is. LOTS of factors...
We built our house in the middle of our 135 acres. I have food plots in line of sight to my house. Is this a bad idea? My property is 90% wooded (pines, hard woods, some 10 year old clear cuts). My thought was to stack bedding towards my property lines?
Hi Nate! I like the food closer to the house, but it can't be so close that the deer ever get spooked by you, from the plot. You have to make sure they can't see people...you can't see them. Or what happens is that you push the does well off the edge of the plot and leave no more room on your land for mature bucks. The security of that food plot is critical for everything you do...
@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751 Thank you jeff for the response! I have been following you for several years, always solid advice. We do spook deer off alot as the plots are at the edge of my yard. We are on a ridge and my house is in the middle of a 4 acre clearing that use to be a food plot for deer. I like watching the deer in the evenings but I feel like it's better for deer viewing than actually deer hunting. If I don't use the space I have for food plots I will be very limited to how much food I can offer the deer. Less than an acre in other plots on the property wich is all the cleared area I have. Because property is on a ridge line I'm pretty limited in clearing other areas for food plots. The properties around are mostly wooded as well so I feel food is very important for my property to hold deer during the daylight.
@@Natedwebb Leave like it is to view deer from the house. Put up good screening between you and the food plot to hold deer. Miscanthus Gigantis is a great screening for a quick screen. Put a few rows of conifers (norway spruce, green giant aborvitae ) on the side of the miscanthus that gets the sun. When the conifers fill in, they'll start to shade out your miscanthus (which you can then dig up the rhizomes and plant miscanthus elsewhere) and make a great year round screening. I had to do the exact same thing. It's great seeing the deer, but it's much better knowing they're there and unpressured.

Do I have to stay on stand all day?
I stay on. Stand all day very, very little. In fact most stands are only good for 1/2 the day...and not the other 1/2.
My family has 40 acres in southern Iowa and it’s always had great deer and turkey numbers. I have a small kill plot about 40 yards wide and 60 yards long with a permanent Banks blind on it. New neighbors a couple years ago got the 40 next door and all they do is drive four wheelers through the entire property. They have really affected the wildlife. When I’ve tried to explain it to them, their response is that’s why the got the property. I get it they can do what they want but it’s extremely disappointing when for 20 years you’ve developed a great spot and 150 yards away groups of many are zipping around scaring everything off. Most of the game has gone back to the south property that’s 480 acres of timber that never sees a human. Wish I could hunt that spot.
