I usually don’t watch many movies, and many friends ask me why. When I watch a movie, it’s like it touches my soul and everything in it. When I was younger I always thought that it was unfair, because life in a movie is often plain, simple, linear, while my (and everyone’s) life is complicated and difficult. After watching a movie I usually feel empty and drained because I am overly sensitive. Even though this isn’t the topic of this song, it reminded me of this “problem” I had and still have: movies are something beautiful, but they can really hurt me. In the end “the meaning of life doesn’t seem to shine like that screen”, and it’s something hard to accept.

We were on our way home (Denmark) from a vacation to France. We had listened to lots of fun and great music, each of us (my sister, father, mother and I) choosing a song one after the other. It was getting dark, windy, cold, rainy. Sleepy, too. My father then put on this song as I stared out at the lights through a wet window. All four of us were almost completely quiet throughout the entirety of the song. It was as if my father just knew exactly what would we all wanted, needed, to hear at that particular moment. I've rarely had such an emotional reaction to a song that wasn't during a concert, but I remember feeling bliss, comfort and melancholy at the same time. I don't think I'll forget that memory.
Thank you, father and Weyes Blood.

I wanna be in my own movie
    I wanna be
I wanna be the star of mine

  • @MrBreadisawesome
    @MrBreadisawesome Рік тому +81

The declaration “I want to be the star of my own” is some beautiful symbolism especially given the otherwise uncertain nature of the album. Within all that uncertainty and change - looking for something to believe or hold onto - there is in every one of us the capacity to turn it into something beautiful. To see life for its beauty and actualize our potential to become something more. To become the lead role in our own lives and be a positive force in this chaotic world.
She even says in andromeda, “we all want something new but can seem to follow through”. Movies is a beautiful moment of clarity in the album. Its like one of those moments where everything seems to click and you feel like you could do anything. But the irony is that real life isnt a movie. It doesnt always pan out with a story book ending. It almost never does. But “i want to be the star of my own” is self aware in its own irony. She is saying that even though life will never be a movie, she still wants to make the most of the mess. And thats pretty beautiful if you ask me. What more can anyone truly ask for? Thats what being a star really means

It's beautiful how magic can be created by weaving together earnestly simple yet resonant lyrics and dramatic, majestic instrumentals. "Movies" is simply an existential anthem for the new generation. "Titanic Rising" deserves much more recognition than it received at the time of its release.

    • @spiderveloce

Titanic Rising is grateful that you recognize its musical supremacy to those that came before and after. Those who do not will suffer immensely in the afterlife, and will hear only inferior music even as they realize what they took for granted. Long live this superior sequence of songs.

When everyone realizes they can be in the movie too is such a magical moment. I've always wanted to be in my own movie too honestly

I'm a little bit buzzed but regardless of this is just a remarkably beautiful piece of music. Makes me sad, happy nostalgic, euphoric, excited, depressed, joyous, every emotion you can possibly think of. What a truly great song is supposed to make you feel. Perfection

I love movies!! I’m a movie buff and I love the art form. So much goes behind the scenes. So many people it takes to make a movie it’s always been interesting to me. The heart throbs and the pretty actresses the heartbreaking stories. I love it all. Drama genre is my fave..

Some of the imagery in this video is very clever. The Sound of Music, the coquettishness of Marilyn Monroe, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Shape of Water (?), probably a lot more that hasn't dawned on me yet. Smart lady.

So grateful to Lana Del Rey for guesting her in one of her performances. Now I have this unknown gem in my playlist.

I’m always a sucker for spacey synth arpeggios. Thanks, Muse, for priming me to love this song.

This song is literally magnificent. It's pulsing violin literally feels like it's touch each of my emotions with every pull of its string. I've rarely heard something that has made me cry. THIS. This has made me cry. It has made me feel all of my suppressed emotions all at once. I started listening to it with a smile and ended with tears. I really don't know why this Artist isn't more famous. We seldom get an musician that actually makes good music nowadays. We need to nurture those who do. Thank you so much for making me come of my emotional shell and finally admit to myself some stuff that I've been trying to keep from surface.

I love this video. I LOVE the song and it MOVES me big time, but adding that beautiful idea of watching a movie and jumping into the movie/water, is so, so incredible of an idea AND execution!!! Mad love for this.

5 years later, this crescendo still hitting me.
Like with Tool, I'm not into their esoterism but into their "melodism"
    Uhuh

So rich and complex. It seems simple at first, but this is hiding a commentary on modern narcissism and escapism: "making love to a counterfeit"; "the meaning of life doesn't seem to shine like that screen"; you'll be the star", etc. Great music AND lyrics.
