The chest rigs that is. The copious amount of beer and bourbon was a great idea.

I like just buying a molle panel and making your own. You can literally get everything in single form. Mag pouches, medical, admin/GP whatever. It's fun to build just like building an AR.

the demonetization in this video hit harder than a buffalo droppings their kid off at school. honestlly, seeing hop and brass as more than just monologue kit videos is awesome in between their wonderful work testing kit out for us. drop a like for the boys
You can always put a harmonica in your mag pouches.
Keep that recreation box checked bro.
Bad idea. If you are the guy on the squad who plays slow mournful harmonica as the sun goes down, then you are also the guy who will be shot fatally but live long enough for the hero to reach you and hold your hand and say choked-up bro stuff as you die, to get the audience emotionally ready for the final battle scene.

A dump pouch is the critical peice of kit that makes up for the shortcomings of a chest rig. It's the catch all for gloves, hat, eye pro, snacks, and of course, empty mags.
the whole fabric stacking stuff really makes me appreciate the spiritus pouches. super thin molle straps with the tuck tabs makes everything super clean without the bulk.
I agree great pouches. Same with blue force gear. Imo those two make some of the best.
The USMC chest rig is my favorite. You can put up to 10 mags in it, it's covered in MOLLE and can be used with the harness or quick clips on your plate carrier
Follows the KISS method too
I was looking for something to watch while sloshed and this ended up being perfect. Thanks for the stellar content as usual lads. Keep up the hard work. Or hardly work. Whatever. Just keep doing you.
Perfect examples of chest rig options; do while impaired - BECAUSE everyone thinks their chest rig is the BEST until they wear it for 6 hours or actually train while wearing it. Thank you for your “drinking” time and flat out honesty ! Love the Channel.
Hilarious. You videos are top notch and perfectly articulated, this one was well deserved fun.
The good old SADF type 83 is pretty simple while still having a lot of room. Reminded me a lot of the onward recce rig, but cheaper. Never felt discomfortable while wearing it with my backpack.
I'm currently rocking the SADF chest rig. Absolute money for the price! even if you end up buying one for a hundred bucks, it still has good value with its high quality materials. The lack of pouches can easily be fixed with a belt.
If I were to consider a chest rig, a pattern 83 would be the way to go since I have AR, AK, and FAL platforms.
But, I honestly don't see the point of chest rigs anymore. Body armor or nothing.
@@M81_WOODLAND
If I have to climb up a mountain at night and assault a position, or hike 15 miles to pull recon on an MSR for 3 days and hike back, I'm bringing a chest rig, not a plate carrier.
@@sullathehutt7720If you’re expecting a fight you’ll want a plate carrier with plates. That is if you’re assaulting a position, you’ll want plates. Worth it at that point.
@@Woodland_Warrior
No. That's not how real life works. Plenty of offensive operations have been carried out and are still being carried out by guys who aren't wearing rifle plates. There is no "you have to wear X to win." Real life is not a video game.
I got two of the T.Rex 556 ready rig thingies for $75 with George Washington’s birthday and everything…love these things, they fit great with a more “athletic” feel to it.
Super lightweight, comfortable and minimalistic.
The PLAC reminded me very much of my TT mk2 m4 chest rig, speaking of which first chest rig I ever bought and absolutely my favorite.
Always good info in an entertaining fashion. More beer more better!
Perfect timing. I just got my 60 liter camo backpack today. Going to try it on while wearing my plate carrier and kamelback setup.
Laying prone for the better half of a day, that's the reason for a split front chest rig lol. But honestly, great run down. Nothing beats the mayflower line.
Really digging your channel. Keep it real
I own that same Helikon-Tex one, then chose the Onward Research as it’s replacement over the Velocity Hybrid 5.56 lol. This video hit home for real
Honestly, the DM system and the Ferro rigs + DOPE pouch are the best systems i've found out there after going through the same struggles as you all lol
Same. I run a ferro DOPE front flap with a large kangaroo, triple mags, and a dangler. Can swap it easy between my chesty wide chest rig and plate carrier so it ends up being cheaper than two dedicated setups and none of the molle bulk up front.
I recently put together a larger chest rig using the military issue taps rig. Swapped the y harness for an h and a back strap, then got a bunch of military surplus MOLLE pouches off of eBay, all in multicam, and it was around $150. It is on the larger side, but it has a ton of modularity and capacity. So far I’m a fan. We’ll see how I like it after a hike though haha
The taps rig isn't a bad setup at all. I'd go for the spiritus taps upgrade to really bring it up to speed.
I like my TAPS. I added a canteen pouch, pistol mag pouch for multi tool, and an eagle industry double M4 mag pouch. I also upgraded to shock cord retention. I can carry 3-4 ar or ak mags no problem.
Loved this format with ol’ Hoppy boy. Good info, thanks gents
I think the best chest rig would be a pattern 83 format with 5x Spirtus Spud pouches across the front and all the standard modern features like a swift clip attachment for harnesses and a velcro field on the back for dangler pouches. That'd be very simple and very versatile without being massive.
Im a huge fan of the BFG Chest rig. Comes with four 10 Speed Mag pouches in the center, and 3-4 rows of molle on each side. Super lightweight and only $90
Im a big fan of using a kydex insert style 3 mag placard (I have a Trex arms KWI placard) with a set of x style straps to convert it to a chest rig. I can add a velcro front GP pouch side wings and a fanny pack if I want to expand it or just wear it with the three mags alone for a super slim and light weight setup.
The LBX Lock and Load is nearly a perfect inexpensive copy of the LBT 1961, but for some reason on the LBX the pouches that are similar to the MBITR pouches as the LBT are left open without any retention. I've been meaning to modify mine to add retention.
Just a couple boys getting lit in their kit
Honestly i was debating the mayflower rig you guys like and the onward research rig myself. The big selling points of them were that theyd clip and hook/loop into my agilite k19 so i dont just swap full kits but just upsize and downsize swiftly with some snaps and slaps. Its hard as hell to get a camo pattern onward research rig so i got OD green to match my K19 PC and ill probably build a mayflower rig in multicam and call it a day... until that drip collab comes out like you mentioned. Good rant I'm glad that you guys sung some truthful points on nylon buyers remorse that i took months researching before i even ordered the onward rig. Do more of these please.
I went super hood rat and modified a PLA AK chest rig. I sewed on elastic over the pouches to hold onto AR-15 mags, put in foam inserts to raise the mags up, and installed a buckle for the waist strap. Next step is to sew on a dangler pouch and elastic for a tourniquet. I might try to incorporate some padded shoulder straps. Its extremely low profile and lightweight which is what I want.
You only get 3 mags, but with a belt mounted mag and one in the gun you have 5 that are easily accessible. I also have a Redi-Mag I can install so that would give me 6 mags.
You really open up a lot of possibilities if you learn how to sew. I do everything by hand, which takes a while, but if you could buy an old sewing machine and learn how to use it then you can literally modify/make anything you want to fit your exact specifications. I sew everything with braided Spectra serving thread. Its expensive, but its damn near unbreakable. Learn how to sew and make gear for warfare. Its manly.
Running a spiritus thing2 with microfight 5 and kydex inserts. blue force triple elastic on front for 3 additional mags or as "stuff anything" pockets. TQ dangler plus two tq holders on the sides and a pouch for multi-tool and the 1 obligatory pistol mag. the built in radio cells of the thing 2 can hold an extra mag/radio/med mag each.
Its slim unless you want to scale up. runs well with a backpack and belt.
Damn I’m glad I found you guys I love these videos. Very well done.
Love my mayflower rig. But you are right about the pistol pouches. I use one for my hanky.
Thanks for sharing. A lot of interesting concepts of chest rig.
Lol, the dog's trippin'.
I went with the ATS low profile chest harness. Added a 2 mag pistol pouch and TQ.
Only taken on one “drange ship” lmao. Great video guys.
It’s fun watching guys who know how to drink like adults and keep their shit together while drunk drink with guys who aren’t that great at doing any of those things. I’m not saying that was necessarily the case in this specific video… but it was fun watching you guys.
I like Thyrm battery vaults to help fill unwanted pistol mag pouches on chest rigs.
i like and recommend the helikon rig. i have it at my bedside for a grab and go setup. i have two pistol mags, a multi-tool and a can of OC in the pistol pouches. my med kit is in the main compartment and i take off the hanger. fits me well, 6', 160lbs.
It’s all in the eye of the beholder.
I have rigs I’ve got off aliexpress that are IR compliant that are a clone ferro rig. It’s amazing.
I would go with modular. Start with a foundation and build it out with the way you want not the trendy cool way.
First mane up called for a flashbang… I went in guns blazin😂
aplit front is for laying prone for a long time, you can unzip it and lay the sides out like wings for comfort. also makes taking it on/off easier
this is probably the most expressive I've ever seen Hop.
CUT, And.... probably best video yet...lol
I’ve running a Spiritus Systems Bank Robber micro rig with 4 mags and 2 tqs. I do kinda wish I had not real estate, but basically anything else I need quick access to is on the belt, and then I have a pack to supplement. I works decently, but i probably will upsize to a slightly bigger rig soon.
I've worn one of those to some classes, and found it met every need I had. It was just flat range stuff though, with some movement and weird positions
i have one of these with SOAR med mags and keep it in my truck. fits well enough with the fat straps i dont even use a back strap. its a solid piece of minimal kit
The helikon TMR is sweet. It’s really built well. I’ve been a big fan. It pretty much does what I want.
I wish this video was out before I purchased my Trex Arms ready rig. They are a one size fits children. and now I see how a wider chest rig would actually fit my frame to a T.
Lately I've been using a British m58 belt and suspender set with a repro Rhodesian chest rig and have been so happy with the combination
If you feel so inclined, rifle mag pouches can also be used as impromptu pistol holsters so you're not weighed down by a battle belt (which would obviously wear your legs down).
You made a lot of waterfowl hunters feel better.
You two make such a cute couple!
Achilles and Patroclus type beat
I like chest rigs for vehicle work obviously. But I must say, the first time I put on a load bearing harness/belt kit (Not battle belt) that I assembled, I knew from that day on that I would never again put on a chest rig unless it was absolutely necessary.
I'd love to see you do a video on a "Tasmanian Tiger mk2" chest rig. 5 mags pouches in a kangaroo pouch, 2 big gp pouches, can hold a SAPI, etc. AK variant has 4 double pouch.
It's weird, TT is like THE best brand for quality and affordability in Europe, everyone I know has atleast one product from them.
And jet, in America it's somewhat unknown. Or not that common. Which is weird because Helikon Tex is very common. And I think TT is on ShotShow each year too.
They’re both airsoft brands
@@EXO9X8 TT is not an airsoft brand.
You guys make me think of old guns and ammo from like the late 90's or early 2000's
thanks... I think?
@@BrassFacts they actually used to be the cool guys that did real testing and use
Try a split rig, plenty of room for pouches, it's modular and you can open it up in the front to go prone and dump body heat
Awesome video, if I could just stop starring at hop’s eyebrows lol, sorry hop. Love your videos too
The TAP/USMC chest rig is what I use. Cost me no joke 15 dollars new, came with replacement buckles and hardware to attach to a plate carrier. 6 mag pouches and two radio pouches. It had full molle but I don't need it cause it already carries everything
I'll be review the OG taps, and then some "modern" taps It's a great rig for sure.
“Non of you have grenades”
Oh really?
One nice thing I will say about the RECCE rigs oversized Velcro area... AK mags. I know y'all probably aren't big on AKs, but I run an AR and an AK. The pouches will fit one AK mag each very well. The rig will also fit 8 AK mags total with very good retention from the overdone elastic. It's kind of ridiculous, but you can also manage to close to the flaps even with two AK mags per pouch.
There is also the final option if you have the courage to venture that way... buying cordura and nylon straps in bulk and making your own. You use whatever retention system you prefer, you have however many mags you want for whatever system you prefer. You space the admin/gp pouches where you want them, you can add your own dangler and you don't have to deal with the downsides of all the bulk and weight of modular systems. If I ever decide to attempt this i will probably use an off the shelf harness tho.
I have an old Tactical Tailor split front that is absolutely phenomenal.
11:30 I made a split front so I can load it up and unzip when I want to go prone. It doesn’t work well in a hurry, but for more deliberate prostrate applications, it does well.
So, I definitely started out the same way. though, I started out the Surplus route. First I went with a Bundeswehr LBV system as I was running a heavily modded Cetme at the time(RIP, lol I need to replace that that thing), then I went to a USGI LBV and that worked rather well( I might revisit this, tbh), then I went with a Czech LBV, but quickly dismissed it as being WAAAY too bulky for what I want. Still really nice and has A LOT of pouches. If I was going into a known sustained fight, I would probably use this. Currently though, I have been using a Haley Strategic D3CRXH w/ a Flat Pack on the back. I've honestly been liking it, But, I'm not entirely sure of the Flat Pack. might switch it back to the X harness or switch to a H harness. I found that when running with the Flat Pack, I need to have a decent amount of counter weight in the pack in order to keep it from sagging in the front and making everything uncomfortable. I went with the Heavy chest rig as I tend to run a multitude of calibers. from AR's, to AK's, to FAL's and HK91's. In addition, with inserts, I can run PCC's if need be. But, here recently, I've been trying to find a good Pistol belt, or battle belt, that can hold a IFAK, a couple pistol and rifle mags, and a holster. But, that's a hole other rabbit hole of a story, lol
Those ICOM radio pouches are hidden gems for the civilian world
The old Mayflower Active Shooter chest rig has 3 GPs across the front like the Hybrids, but they're all equally sized but sort of small, one the left side it has some open top radio pouch that was sized for that damn MBITR, with 3 pistol mag sized pouches, then on the right side it has yet another pistol mag pouch and then a larger GP that could fit an IFAK fairly easily. The under it, an oddly long sort of enclosed TQ I guess pouch, but not really a TQ sized pouch that I ended up shoving a random Ontario Knife breacher thing I got from somewhere into and it fit that perfectly. I sort of miss running it now, might have to dig it out of the closet under all my camo that I dont wear anymore.
Lol fuck @brass Facts, they're even targeting your small ass channel
I like my SADF p83 chest rig for range shit, found a London Bridge thingy with way more pouches than I need, should probably do something with my completely bare chest rig too
I run the Ferro chesty and so far so good...added plus: the price is right at $60 (at least when I bought it). Yeah, its tiny but that's what I wanted, exactly for the reason stated: too bulky. I can still use placards, but the only retention is Velcro.
? How tf is this comment a month old??
The small GPs on the hybrid fit a GI 20 round mag perfectly, FWIW.
I made a mistake and bought an el-cheapo Condor Chest Rig. NGL, better than I was expecting. Had 4 double mag pouches, and I could molle on my way-too-big medical pouch and was pretty pleased as a pleb.
I am a poor and more akin to a Somali Pirate than a normal chest rig enjoyer that has radios like they should.
Love the vid! I'd love to see your thoughts on the Tracer Tactical Scout Rig if you ever able to get it
its advertised as holding 7 AR mags, 3 GP pouch inserts (1 full and 2 half size), and has molle and velcro on the front for additional pouches
My defense of the Onward research's overly long pouch flaps is that it's nice for 40 round pmags which goes well with my civilian oriented binary base of fire rifle (BOFR) set up which is nice if shooting drills with decent sized groups or just to use 40s because it irritates people. In reality it's probably to accommodate AK mags and pull tabs on ARs
theres definitely no free lunch. AK mags are much longer and require the flap to be longer for proper closure on the recce rig. trade off would be to shorten it so it doesnt fold but lose ak mag compatability
The closest I've seen to a "happy medium" is the later production SADF 83 rig. The flaps are long enough for my AK mags and they're not too ridiculously long for AR mags. I would still recommend running a magpul or a ranger plate on AR mags though.
One thing I've gathered as I've looked at chest rigs, is that a lot of rigs look to be trying to emulate the South African Pattern 83 to an extent
The Western rigs definitely give that impression. The Russian rigs tend to be more symmetrical, I think they're more copying the old Chinese 63 and 81 rigs.
More a Keystone light man myself.
HOLD MY STONES
You guys should try the tracer tactical stout scout, great rig that holds a lot but it’s also big bucks
I have like 2 grand worth of chest rigs and pouches. It is shameful lol. I was ocd about finding the perfect set up for awhile. I like getting a sewn rig and then adding wings or an expander. Then you can add a few water bottle pouches or whatever else you want.
I haven’t gotten to use it yet but I just got the Haley strategic heavy chest rig. I got the heavy instead of the normal for 2 reasons. The main reason is because of the 2 zipper pockets on the front. I didn’t like the big pouches the normal one had. The second reason is I really want to get a 308 rifle and the heavy is made to take the bigger mags. With the mag inserts the heavy holds the 556 mags perfectly. So In the future I’ll be able to just swap mags and go instead of getting a different chest rig.
Having 4 mag holders was a big factor in my initial look for chest rigs. I wasn’t interested in the rigs that have the large flaps over the mags either.
Currently have no other attachments for it but I’m open to suggestions.
Informative and entertaining!!!!!!!!
The existence of Brass Facts implies the existence of Caseless Facts.
I carry no rig at all, thats what the manservant is for. I also don't need to practice reloads because he just has my spare gun to hand me and reload my spent one for me.
hop basically befriended me for that exact reason.
HE wants to use a 308 rifle. but doesn't want to deal with the weight. So he tried to get me to carry both.
Indubitably old boy. These poors are going about this the hard way. I'd bet my cottage in Gloucestershire their pack train doesn't even have a kitchen.
Lol there’s a video of an ukranian guy defending his trench doing just what you said. Had a squire handing him weapons, rpgs, and reloading his mags.
I wanna see you and hop do a comparison with an 80's LBE
Ive got my eye on the T3 Gear Spear Chest Rig V2. It might check all of the boxes for you guys as well. I know this video is older and you may have found your "forever" chest rig but check em out. 4 mags with molle field to add whatever, radio wings facing back, molle on the sides to add mission specific pouches and has an admin behind the mags. I've been running a spiritus mk4 and it's been good to me but I've been eyeing that T3 Spear.
8:08 Hop walking like an old man
Tasmanian tiger makes a pretty decent micro rig which is called the "small combi rig", costs about 130 bucks. But it already includes expander wings and a dangler
Honestly, I like USGI metal magazines too. They are smaller and thinner than modern polymer magazines. Are USGI magazines perfect? No but they do have their advantages.
I used to buy a lot of Lancers and PMAGs. But after realizing aluminums are as thin and not much heavier than polymer, not to mention cheaper in bulk, I've only purchased USGI mags for the last 5 years or so. Probably have more USGI aluminum than all others combined.
I’m also super skinny. I have a chest rig by direct action it’s called the hurricane and I run super small utility pouches on the side I love it works great doesn’t get in the way or chafe even though they’re basically in my arm pits
Such a great video guys the meat and potatoes on this channel are growth hormone free

Patch was delivered yesterday 🤟🏼
I've got a Helikon-Tex chest rig which is pre-sewn. I really like it because they have 4 rifle mags across the front (which is my standard) and plenty of admin/utility space. But the problem is the 4 pistol magazine pouches they also put on the sides. I do NOT need 4 pistol magazine pouches! I have 2 spare mags on my combat belt. Obviously, I can repurpose the pistol pouches to flashlights, chemlights, or other items. But that's still limited by the dimensions of the items. I would have much preferred the sides to just be molle so the user can adapt it for his radio or other items...
There are more manufacturers making wider "enhanced" chest rigs, but they are all molle, which means you have to endure the molle straps making it thicker and less comfortable.
