  • WYUL/Chateaugay, New York...the second such station that was recently sold off to EMF. Includes the last 75 or so minutes of 'Hits FM', a couple of commercials (including a few in French), two legal IDs, sign off messages from Kat and JJ, past personalities, afternoon host Java Joel and PD Jonathan Steele, and the start of the ticking clock stunting.
I also have the last 7 hours of 'Hits FM's existence recorded. As that will take some time to edit and mix down, that will be posted (hopefully) sometime this weekend.
(As well, I have uploaded the final hour of 'Fun 101.3'/Lancaster, PA.)

This radio station raised me, and it stayed in range even when I moved to Ontario only an hour away. It's always been nostalgic to hear both the french and english ads, so many of the host's voices that have come and gone throughout the years... Love you, 94.7 - thanks for all the good times.

It’s amazing how you can get so emotional over a station sign off like this even though you’ve never listened in your life until now. Only took 13 minutes to understand what an impact this station had.

I love you, 94.7 Hits FM and I wouldn’t be where I am without you. I wanna thank you for 19 years of playing Montreal’s hottest music.

It feels so good to hear what the station was like, despite being its final hour. I loved hearing the French commercials, it has a great connection with Montréal. Vive 94.7 Hits.

I threw those in there for my sake. ;) It's not that often that I hear French being spoken on the radio. And yes, definitely a nice touch and fits the vibe of serving a bi-national, bilingual audience.

From what I've noticed on YT, my own experience working in radio, and talking with other people that have worked in this business, the national ads (think Geico, Walmart, etc.) tend to be the issue with companies when doing airchecks. Since these were locally produced spots, they don't tend to be an issue.

I was the second on air personality hired at WYUL back when Martz first bought the station in the late 90s. It was branded as "YES-FM" back then but the jingle is exactly the same except saying "HITS FM" instead of YES FM. I actually have the CD they played on repeat before the station was formally launched. I'll post it if I can find it. Sad to see it gone. Another victim of the Internet.

I remember when it first started as a trimulcast as Yes FM. 94.7 with 96.7 WYSX and 98.7 WYSI now WPAC. The name and format still lives today on 96.7 WYSX.

Thx for uploading, I actually recorded the last 2 hours. It's a real shame Montreal is losing a popular English station, fm radio won't be the same now. I'll miss tuning in to the Throwback Lunch Hour and Sunday Night Slow Jams, goodbye to the hottest mix on the radio 94.7 hits. 😔

I remember listening to WYUL Chateaugay/Montreal back in the second half of the 2010s. It's nice for an English language radio station to have French ads since the CRTC prohibits that.

What's interesting is that usually EMF is supposed to take over at the start of midnight. I heard they kept stunting as late as 9am this morning, but I just checked their stream and it appears to be dead now

They installed equipment. EMF has a single rack of equipment at their transmitter sites. They also have local studios in some areas. I believe the stunting originated from the Hits FM studio while they setup that equipment. EMF is not targetting Montreal with it from what I can tell although I’m sure they are happy to have coverage in Canada. Per their website, they consider it their Malone, NY station.

Working on editing that down as I type. That's going to take some time, so be patient. It's a large enough file as it is, and it's taking longer than originally anticipated.
