Minneapolis reporting in; yeah, after the deep freeze in January, I had the same issue. I was also getting oil leaking out of the vacuum pump so I replaced the whole thing. I saw online that the newer models of the pump actually address the leaking issue, so it was worth the time/effort. It actually wasn't awful (granted I had replaced the oil filter housing a month beforehand which took 8 hours so my concept of "not awful" might be skewed). I also noticed my brakes stopped squealing afterward. Not sure if it was related or if the squealing I'd heard was actually coming from the pump.
Hey, curious how your fix is holding up? Also for people who think it’s the cam chain tensioner you can easily tell the difference if it is this as it will be visibly moving up and down when running on cold start and if you hold it down with a finger even lightly it goes away.
Good solution! I replaced the o ring inside that line which fixed the issue but within 8 month it came up again. Im going to repair it the way u did it asap.
Eventually the o-ring will go again, and jb weld isn't the best at making air tight seals and holding them. So when it blows again it will leak passed the jb weld but now you can'treplace the o-ring like you did last time. Instead next time you do the o-ring make sure they use a genuine audi o-ring if you can get the right one. No o-ring will last forever, don't glue it together to try hide the problem.
Big thanks to you and the Audizine forum. Guys like you think outside of the box! I get what you mean about "the real fix is buying a new vacuum pump", but I hate this mentality. Buying a new part is only a temporary fix as the new one is going to be faulty also. I took my vacuum pump out to do this BTW, I have to service the bank 2 cam anyway. This reminds me of the trunk latch fix I did, and seeing people talk about how they're on their 4th trunk latch.
Thanks for the video peter. I noticed this problem. While back and i am going to fix it my self the stealership would charge like $ 1000 for this simple fix because they dont want to work and they going to steal ur money... I am talking for my self experience here in bloomington, Illinois audi...
Vacuum line leaks might be the cheapest easiest fix in auto repairs. In your case, a new O ring may have worked as they shrink and decay over time. The quick cure JB Weld will be easier to remove if you need to replace pump later. All this remote diagnosis and you didn't have to wait hours on hold to India. Peace

Hello man! Did this problem cause your idle to be abnormal? I have uploaded 2 videos on my account of my TFSI idling and I suspect i have the same problem.
It's not that making noise, mine did the same exact thing and it's the cam chain tensioner. Just replaced that with a new chain and many other things as I had to disassemble the engine to replace all my valves due to a timing belt breaking

This idle is totally fine. On cold starts, the ecu is warming up the Oxygen sensor (Lambda), it takes around 1 minute. Just wait for it.
Not warming the o2 sensor but the oil, as it warms, the viscosity reduces and it can flow around the motor, lubricating properly

Did it get faster with higher rpm the tapping sound
