Screw Tik-Tok, I've been listening to this sort of music for the past 25 years.
unfortunately, the younger generation, esp generation Z and the current ones (gen alpha(?), will always said, oh i heard that in tiktok or even say it was popularized in tiktok, though the music was already existing decades ago..
This is definitely my favorite version of this song on UA-cam
Thanks for the kind words!
Why don’t you sub 2 him guyssss
Try listening to the Irish Rovers' version
It's quite brilliant really but I think it's your favourite only because you probably haven't heard Alina Gingertail's yet .
@@barthydemusic wdym thanks for the kind words as if you sang the song? 😂
The fact I've heard this song for months now and only just found out its about Wellers rock in my hometown New Zealand
Time will come and go this masterpiece will be shaped into many different forms but the legendary song can never be replaced by and tunes or mixes
This thing is BLOWING UP!!!!!
Ikr
Finally, not NatHnaN eVanS version
Yea its better
I want the original pirate feel, not some tiktok shit
wow, this Traditional Sea Shanty person made a really good version of this song!
"soon may the wellerman come to bring us sugar and tea and rum" That specific part of the song you sing even better than that version with all those views. Great job
Thank you!
And they sing the correct text; "billy o' tea" instead of "billy of tea"
the longest John's need more recognition
i think they made one of the best and most faithful covers
This version is great 👌👌
This is a masterpiece it deserves at least 1B views
Me: vibes to this song
My sister: tHeY sTolE tHaT sOng frOm tIk toK!
Me:
throw her out the window.
Reminds me of when one of my ex's said who redid Disturbed's song? Toward Genesis' Land of Confusion. I lost a little respect for him after that.
You can even feel the history of this song by listening it ❤
I've been listening to this version now for couple years yet listened to many other versions this one still my favorite
This version is brilliant
This reminds me of a Saturday night at the Book Mill in Montague, MA. The Montague Book Mill used to do live music especially before the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic!!!
great song much better then any other version I have heard
Thank you thank you.
Yes. Thank you. This was the one. ✨
On the hunt for the orignal.
This song is a traditional pirate song, it was even in 1860 years. So there isn't any original
Same, but i think the original is way to diggerent because there is no sort of acoustics
Excellent!
Beautiful
I LOVE THIS!❤
Same!
Finally the song it's been so long.
IT'S BEEN SO LONG
Oh freakin G! That explains how I knew the lyrics before this song exploded in 2021-2022.,
My grandparents used to play this in pre 2000s., I just remembered it now after listening to this version
I love this
This is brilliant!! You got a subscribers from me. Please do lots more sea shanties and old songs
cool song
So did the spark network in my country of New Zealand this shanty was to help the boys keep time with the raising and lowering of the main sails and to keep time when hauling
i like this song
love this good sea song
thank you
thank you
@@elmerlarimer9026 don't shit yourself
Its nice to finally understand what Nathan Evans was saying but this is also nice
In typical 19th century fashion the worst deprivations of a whalers life at sea are as understated in the chorus as the harmony. A good song rooted in the history of the first years of New Zealand, It makes me wonder why hipsters and tik tok girls glommed onto it. I hope a few of them learn something from it too.
I've been looking for it!
here before 5k views waiting on it to reach 1 mil
I didn't even know this song was written in 1860's but it's old more than 2000 years. but I like this version between Nathan Evans' version and Longest John's version. But the chord progression in this version is different than I thought.
I like both this version and Nathan Evans version. And thank God i didn't know it was on tiktok
Nice!
Great🥰
What a great version, i like this old style of music sounds like how it would sound in the ship
Edit: this reminds me if Moby Dick Story
good version
450th sub, good work my guy, keep goin :D
Thank you!

Was here before it blew up
To the moon 🚀🚀🚀
Any suggestion on traditional song with accapella/harmony like this? Sounds beautiful and soothing
And... Didn't expect it to be from New Zealand
nice

Thanks!
My fav version of this song 🎵
much better than Nathan Evans

It is a metaphor for human persistence, but can't keep going without support.
your my fav wellerman vid, you got subscribers from me also
Thanks man! I really appreciate that.
This is so much better then what i heard on tik tok
There once was a ship that put to sea,
The Black Pearl, the pride of the Caribbean.
She's a fast ship, and a well armed one,
A pirate's life for you and me!
(Chorus)
Yo ho, hoist the colors high!
Heave ho, thieves and beggars never shall die!
Let's set sail and roam the seas,
And live a life of piracy!
We'll pillage and plunder, and drink our rum,
We'll fight and we'll win, and then we'll run,
We'll steal the treasure and make a name,
And our legend will never be tamed!
(Chorus)
Yo ho, hoist the colors high!
Heave ho, thieves and beggars never shall die!
Let's set sail and roam the seas,
And live a life of piracy!!
So come aboard, ye brave and bold,
And let's seek fortune and glory untold,
We'll live our lives with no regrets,
And never forget the pirate's code!
(Chorus)
Yo ho, hoist the colors high!
Heave ho, thieves and beggars never shall die!
Let's set sail and roam the seas,
And live a life of piracy!!!
(I wrote the lyric for the wallerman-pirates of the caribbean version. i would like to hear it.)
Oh WOW! This is greatest! I hoped an artist would cheer up that catchy beat. It was extremely sad hearing such a great beat only to know the lyrics are about killing endangered right whales. Thank you for this excellent work.
@@inharmonywithearth9982 I'm glad you like it. Thanks matey 🖤🏴☠️

Reminds me of Fairport Convention.
Dam the trendy man was so good that they made a real sea shanty copy
Hahaha yes
much better than Nathan Evans
The epic showdown between the Essex and Moby Dick, kinda
Damn this is the original? Wow it's very cool I like it is very "piratesca".
I had NO IDEA this song was like 50 years old. ☠️☠️☠️
In fact it is from 1830...and this version is the first recorded one, in 1963
The singing style didn't give it away?
You only need 1000 subscribers, I think. You got this.
Yep, I'm just getting impatient.😆
So this is the original song before nathan evans remake the song
This is the version!!!
okay but this songs helps so much with my dysphoria and stuff, I can't even
You need a 1 hour loop.
I really dont appreciate people saying tiktok ruined this song. Be happy that many more people know it, and enjoy it. Stop being such a killjoy
I will see this song in the new Kelly Family Album
My great grandad made this
This version is much better than Nathan Evans's, that version is 💅
Had a dream I was a jedi who escaped order 66 and I rode off with my ship while this song played in the background.
🤣
the jediman
There once was a spaceship that put to space
And the name of the spaceship was the millennium falcon
The engines blow up dip down
Blow my bully boys blow
Soon may the jediman come
To bring us lessons and saber and quote
One day when we won the war
We’’ll take our leave and go
She had not been two weeks from shore
When down on her a right sith bore
The master called all hans and swore
He take that sith in tow
Soon may the jediman come
To bring us lessons and saber and quote
One day when we won the war
We’ll take our leave and go
Da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da
Da da da da da da
Before the ship had hit the planet
The sith’s saber came up and caught her
Hands to the side, shoot and fought her
When she jump down low
Soon may the jediman come
To bring us lessons and saber and quote
One day when we won the war
We’ll take our leave and go
Soon may the jediman come
To bring us lessons and saber and quote
One day when we won the war
We’ll take our leave and go
No ship was cut
No sith was freed
And the yoda’s mind was not on greed
But he belonged to the sithman creed
She took that spaceship in tow
Soon may the jediman come
To bring us lessons and saber and quote
One day when we won the war
We’ll take our leave and go
Da da da da da da
Da da da da da da da da da da
Da da da da da da
Da da da da da da
For 40 days or even more
The planet went slack then damaged once more
All ship were lost (there were only 4)
But still that sith did go
Soon may the jediman come
To bring us lessons and saber and quote
One day when we won the war
We’ll take pur leave and go
As far i’ve heard the war is still on
The ships not cut
And the sith is not gone
The jediman make his regular quote to encourage the master students and all
Soon may the jediman come
To bring us lessons and saber and quote
One day when we won the war
We’ll take pur leave and go
Soon may the jediman come
To bring us lessons and saber and quote
One day when we won the war
We’ll take pur leave and go

speaking of pirates and new zealand i recommend watching Our Flag Means Death on HBO. blackbeard is played by Taika Waititi and Stede Bonnet is played by Rhys Darby
That sounds great! I've been paying for HBO for years and never watch it, but that sounds good!
Nothing beats the original. The traditional sea shanty will always beat the TikTok remix.
way more lively
Is this the OG OG though
@@seloyneyrinck-duncan3316 i think he meant the vibe of it is very natural and matches the format of just everyone singing in their voices without the effects as it traditionally was
@@seloyneyrinck-duncan3316 nope,og og doesn't exist,as the first audio recording device appeared around 70 years later...(i know this is from an author in 1860,but even then, this was considered old,the lyrics were first written on paper in 1860,but the shanty existed like 100 years prior to that...
@@danijelovskikanal7017 well yes, I more so meant the first actual recording. I realize the old shanty is centuries old
To the random sailor who fought the pirates with me in Roblox. I raise you one

Drunken sailor is also a pretty good sea shanty
Why in the name of black beard are shanties becoming such a huge thing to listen to now
😂
It started with runescape
These here shanties are much better and realler than these "modern" music
Im ready to go jump in the sea full of sharks and come out with necklaces 😎🤙
Ha!
Not bad, pretty good if you ask me 🙂🙂
Thank you, sir.
@@barthydemusic Ur welcome 🙂😊
👍
whos the original singer of this song i can't find it
I feel like I was in it bc it sounds familiar bc I was reacarnated
While I do enjoy Nathan Evans' version a bit more than this one, it would be wrong of me not to give this song the credit that it rightfully deserves, as it definitely feels more like a proper sea shanty, compared to Mr Evans' version that acts more like a ballad with a few shanty elements.
whale blubber makes for excellent oil lamp fluid when flensed, i hear.
Yep, and because of that whales were almost driven to extinction in the 1800s
Is it just me or does the beginning give others the Gilligan’s Island vibes?
Is there a version of this song that is sang by the New Zealanders (kiwis)?
Ahoy maty
Is it on spotify?
Yes! open.spotify.com/track/7BH12TgFhwDjqHgcq5leuV?si=Dy_W51GhQtWTnW12BMswwQ
Me- *Listening to this*
One of my friends- Isn’t that from TikTok?
Me- *sighs and pulls out gun* NO!
Can anyone explain the meaning of this song....i love it but yet nothing understood!!
a wellerman was a man under the employ of weller brothers, their job was to supply whaler crews. tonguing means that the crew were cutting the whale's tongue for the oil contained, this oil was mainly used in lamp oil.
Who else was singing this in primary school assembly decades ago?
The should have kept it like this
its you singing? thats bwow dope as FK
Yes it is! Thanks!
Un cuento de 1830 por un autor neozelandés desconocido
I knew this before TikTok
I knew that whale before he got all famous. Now he won’t return my calls
Ok
This is sad😭😭😭
