  • 12th Annual San Miguel Writer's Conference Keynote Address by Naomi Klein.
This Changes Everything: Forget everything you think you know about global warming. The really inconvenient truth is that it’s not about carbon - it’s about capitalism. The convenient truth is that we can seize this existential crisis to transform our failed system and build something radically better. In her most provocative talk yet, Naomi Klein tackles the most profound threat humanity has ever faced: the war our economic model is waging against life on earth.
Naomi Klein is an award winning journalist, syndicated columnist and author of the international bestsellers, "This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs The Climate" " The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism" and "No logo".

This woman is amazing her tact, command of language and her competence in understanding the issue she feels so passionately about. Thank God for creating the conditions that brought Naomi Klein into existence. We should all be grateful for her contribution to the narrative and conversation that, although uncomfortable, is so crucial to have.

I've read SHOCK DOCTRINE. Then re-read it twice. I've never read anythingo thoroughly researched, yet so easy to read. It explained much to me that is going on here, in Los Angeles, as well as in the rest of the country and the world. Naomi Klein, you are my HERO.

I think her view & outline of Trump is extremely articulate & on point. The concern is that his approach is not copacetic with the protocols of Gov't. He cares nothing for the seat of the Presidency as that is not either his brand but it is also temporary. That sheer lack of respect for that Seat is to me, the most devastating. I think his personal goal is to become the wealthiest & most powerful man in history - gained by any means and at any cost. I thank Ms Klein for outlining these motives using a contrary force of intelligence and compassion.

We have too many like this brainwasher, what we need is for people to use their minds.

The only brainwashing is that of our present oligarchy; exploiting the masses with consumerism and capitalism, their tools of slavery and control of the people.

All the british politicians' 2017 election speeches are about the necessity for economic growth or lifestyle issues. Well at least the football pitches are well watered as most of England enters its third year of below average rainfall. I wonder if Ms. Klein's books feature on any school curriculum.

She has enunciated perfectly my feelings over the last months and in fact years. No logo was a bible for me in the naughties. Shame she seemed to be more nervous than she usually is, but then who doesn't feel nervous these days...

@@Meekseek seriously? It's hard research and writing and a groundbreaking work that has built a career but there is nothing wrong with that. She's not enslaving anyone to do her research or write her work for her. She's not lying or being opportunistic with her success and revealing the major crimes against humanity by corporate executive interests which clamor to divide people rather than unite and advance us.

Would have liked to have heard this from a meteorologist. As a person in the medical field who has seen journalists routinely butcher medical study results, I’m kind of skeptical that she can present the science without being overly alarmist about something she doesn’t truly understand. Though I believe most of what she says is basically true, a topic of this scope should be handled by scientists. I’ve only read half the book though so I could be wrong

I am listening to this 4 years in and as Naomi is speaking about Trump's branding I see she nailed it. It's taking an illusion and attaching it to something material. It's a cheap imitation of how things used to become successful through quality and a good reputation. Exactly a conman's dream. There is no limit to what he can attach his lies to...and this is exactly what he has done by politicising everything. I think when his brand is destroyed he will fall. But the framework he has built absolutely must be dismantled also or it will be left for the next power hungry dictator.
This explains why Trump still has a grip on his base and the gop. When the lies are seen for what they are Trump will fall quickly. In the eyes of the gop Trump has branded himself to the presidency. That's why they cling to him.

Have you been sleeping the last 4 years?
Shock doctrine will be fully in place if Trump is re-elected.
With the dept, depression, unrest... it will be the perfect occasion for the GOP to vote tax cuts for the rich, cut and privatize social services and for companies to cut benefits to employees and restructure the workplace on Uber and Amazon model.
At least, with Biden, people will be able to put pressure on the government. Face it, the GOP don't care about people, any unrest is answered by more policing and terror tactics.
