The game of Basketball has been my passion since I was 5 years old. I grew up as a kid watching my dad's recorded VHS tapes of playoff games through the 70s and 80s, and collected all the Basketball cards. Something about the game and what it represents just hooked me from a very young age.
My love for the game only continues to grow as time goes on. I love studying and analyzing the game, with an unbiased perspective. Feel free to subscribe, follow me on social media, and celebrate this amazing game and it's rich history with me!
I post videos every week on NBA history, predictions, hypothetical scenarios and current NBA topics.

So what kind of the league would YOU create?? Genuinely want to hear your takes. ALSO DROP YOUR QUESTIONS in this video, that way I’ll have plenty of stuff to tackle for the 200k video!
What NBA’s player archetype do you like the most?
@tjmeade9468 Great, I will give a thorough answer to that in the 200k video!
Is Larry Bird top 5 all time?
@jacobduffield Gotcha. I'll see ya in the 200k video
i like what you said. it could also have a rule like "No more than 3 persons of the same ethnicity" on the floor at once. Since you want Euro league, i DO believe this league has to appeal to the global masses. It can also incorporate 1 female player on the floor at all times. That might be fun to try. :)
as a filipino, hearing “PBA” makes me think of Philippine Basketball Association
Might have a lawsuit on my hands. lol
@@jonnyarnett dw it’s a dying league 🤣 the lower seeded teams are becoming farm teams for the higher seeded teams.
basically the higher seeded teams trade for the star players of the lower seeded teams, and the trades aren’t even fair
in NBA terms, it’s like trading for Scottie Barnes but only having to give up current Russell Westbrook
@@callmejimpickens5558 Pba be doing lebron + 1 frp for Wemby type trades 😭
Ayo spotted someone from the Philippines here. Yes PBA, what comes to mind first for me is Philippine Basketball Association and what comes next is Professional Bowlers Association lol XD
@@jonnyarnett 😂 Nah! Us Filipinos love you!
Klay's Shanghai Sharks vs Wiggins' GuangDong Tigers 💀
Don’t forget my boy dlo💀💀💀
What if Jerry Krause never broke up the 98 bulls
They would’ve ran into a healthy Spurs teams, with two dominant big man. By far their weakest position.
The Bulls were on their last legs. Each successive deep playoff run compounds physical and mental fatigue. Injuries become more likely and sometimes players lose motivation. If they got to the finals, they’d have to go up against a team with 2 dominant big men, their biggest weakness. I doubt they would’ve won in 99.
can you do a top 10 or 5 best retirement classes if they were actually teams? Like 2016 retirement class would have Kg, Kobe and tim duncan and the 2019 class would have dirk, dwade and tony parker
Thats a pretty dope idea. I assume you're taking them at their primes, and NOT at the time they retired, right??
@@jonnyarnett Yeah, in their primes
Amazing idea
2010 had Shaq, Yao and Iverson - 3 No 1 Picks
@@frankpagel39 Shaq retired in 2011
Do you think there will be a greater icon than Michael Jordan?
Awesome. I'll definitely answer this one!
No, and that because for some reason I thought he was a myth when I didn’t know basketball when I was 8 so that answers your question
Lebron James according to jock sniffers and sycophants like Shannon Sharpe and Nick Wright.
Even if Wemby somehow is Russell + Wilt + KD hybrid of dominance, stats, skill, he doesn't have the "marketability", and people rooted for an underdog SG postering giants, not vice versa.
@@ImportAlthat’s why I think ant has a chance, bro is the full package in terms of skill personality and marketability
If you were the commissioner of the NBA, how would you make all-star weekend entertaining again? Something I would love to add is a one-on-one tournament
Very good question, and something the league needs. I’ll see ya in the 200 vid 👍
Love PBA idea! Champs & All-Stars vs NBA exhibitions would hold us over between Olympics. Candian Football has roster limits on Americans, keeps it from being another NFL Spring League.
For a question:
Any views on the hypocrisy of the NBA officially recognizing BAA accomplishments but not NBL or ABA? As a bit of an extension, any thoughts on the ABL or NBPL of the 60s and 50s respectively.
PBA reminds me of the pro bowling association LOL
Would the NBA do better if they went back to 20-22 teams instead of 30?
No, tou would get a bunch of fans mad and alienated...
I have an idea for my own basketball league
Teams can have a Teen Basketball Training team. Basically your parents can sign you up and if your good enough you can make the roster and it like a young league but that team own you and can train you to be better for the draft. It like the G-League except for 12-18 year old players
literally OTE
@@thecaptain9212 I didn’t know it was a league until now, but you basically own the player and can basically draft him when is 18.
Why nobody talks about the Lakers and Knicks rivalry of the early 70s?
I’ve got some thoughts. See ya in the video 👍
I would make the rules back to those of the 1990-91 season of the NBA. Start callling travels and moving screens, and force players to actually play *BASKETBALL* instead of HORSE.
For my question:
What do you think of the idea that the NBA should use relegation instead of the lottery, as a means to discourage tanking?
Good question and tough to find a good answer, but I think I have an idea.
You would need a second tier league tho and more teams.... Because the others would come to the first division... And who is gonna draft wemby for ex? A 2nd division team? Or a playoff team? Either way less money less competition less viewers.... Doesn't work....
@@reimixo There is already the G-League, plus about 30% of the NBA at any given time.
@@AaronMichaelLong really, the g league?... Cmon now.....
@@reimixo Yes, really. If it turns out that the team just dominates the G-League, they'll be back next year, but I'd like to see some actual negative consequences for tanking.
If you made an NBA team where would they play and what would their name be ?
Are there any current players on the rise that you think, besides possible injuries, could enter the top 10?
Who are the best rebounders at each position all time
Nice, interesting way of looking at it. It’ll be in there 👍
What is that movie or short you love that gets no attention in the greater picture? For me, that is World of Tomorrow by Don Hertzfeldt.
Thanks! That will be a fun question to answer. I usually leave the non-basketball ones towards the end of the video, so keep an eye out for it in the 180-200 range.
Thanks for the reply
What could NBA learn from other sports, being football, soccer, baseball...?
Got it. It’ll be in the video
Id like to learn about basketball in the 40s, or how basketball was internationally popular early in the century, getting into the Olympics even though football and baseball haven't
How good would rudy golbert be in the 70' and how good would bird be today.
Nice, I'll tackle those for sure.
You have to build a starting 5, it has to be 1 player that retired before 1990, 1 modern All-NBA level player, 2 quality role players from any era, and 1 draft bust, who would be on your team?
Luka doncic, bruce bowen, andrew wiggins, robert horry and wilt Chamberlain
@@nabster9253 Wiggins is sort of a stretch for being a bust but it's no biggie. Mine would probably be
Dr. J, Shawn Bradley, Giannis, Mark Jackson, and Jamal Crawford
Who would win:
A team of Manute Bol clones or a team of Muggsy Bogues clones?
Hi Jonny, I’m glad you’re nearly reaching 200k milestone! You’re always my favorite channel. Keep it up!!!
This is a repost of my question to the previous video. But let me post it again since I really want to hear your opinion.
So here it is.
Due the wide spread use of smartphones and the internet, people now have unlimited access to nearly endless content. It’s great for sure that we can enjoy whatever content we like online, just as I watch your channel. But it seems to me that nowadays we’re missing truly iconic cultural figures transcending eras like Magic, Bird, Jordan, Kobe and LeBron. I don’t mean there are not superstars in today’s NBA (there are), but I think it’s getting excruciatingly difficult for modern players to make an impact that’s as strong and as long-lasting as athletes of the past. For example, one of the greatest legacies of Michael Jordan would be that he was (more often than not) the first person to do something unprecedented, like producing Air Jordan shoes, showing us incredible moves, starring in the first Space Jam movie, which helped him succeed in transcending the game and become a universal star. All of those firsts happened because Jordan was every bit as incredible as people say. But, in my opinion, it might have been relatively a bit easier to stand out and get people’s attention as a star back then because there wasn’t as much media comparatively speaking. Social media has obviously made it easier to spread content, but on the other side of the coin, general trends tend to be so instantly changing nowadays because of content overload. Also, younger generations seem to be less likely to feel entertained or satisfied as they often have already seen similar performances before, which also makes it tough for today’s stars to make a big impact. Thus, I highly doubt that icons like the guys above will ever appear again and this worries me greatly.
So, what do you think?
Has the internet put an end to the era of true superstars? Or I’m just being too pessimistic and maybe players like Luka and Ant Man will prove my hunch wrong in the next few years?
I want to hear your opinion from both sides as a basketball historian and a content creator.
I gotchu!! I will definitely answer this and breakdown my logic in the video :)
I wonder what you called your teams and if you already planned out the leagues history if it was around during the 50's and whatnot
My earliest basketball memories only go back to 2005 so my knowledge of the history of the game isn’t super strong, am I crazy to think that Wemby has an argument for best defensive season by a rookie of all time?
Good question. I'll tackle that in the video for sure.
What's your first NBA memory as a child? Mine is 1987 finals
Do you feel as if there would be another revolution in basketball in the next 20 years in the playstyle? For example, the 3 point revolution, fast break basketball, big men centered basketball?
Great question. I'll break down my thoughts in the video.
Thank you Jonny! Appreciate your mention of creating a basketball league 😊
If you were the Lakers GM during the 2013 offseason, how would you have built the team? Would you still do the Howard and Nash trades? And how would you plan to preserve Kobe's abilities in his final few years?
If you weren’t allowed to be a Lakers fan, which team would you root for instead?
Oh thats a good one... I'll answer in the video, but I'll have to give it some serious thought
Out of all of the All-Time Teams you constructed could you list a top 3 that you would want to coach.
Nice, I'm actually gonna present the coaches on the 2k simulation video, and give my thoughts on why I made certain selections.
Do you think the NBA will eventually get rid of traveling or even dribbling altogether somewhere in the future.
If you were to make a starting 5 with the best 6th men ever who would they be.
Alternative question
If you were to make a starting 5 with the best ROLE players of all time who would they be and why?
Showing some love to the underrated. Shoutout Naz Reid
Also love your stuff gang ❤
If you were to try and built the goat using qualities from already existing players, what players would you use for each skill (shooting, longevity, handles, etc.)?
That’s a fun one! I’ll let you know when the 200 video drops
Why do you think John Havlicek is so overlooked?
Thats a good one. Several reasons, and I'm looking forward to sharing them.
Is there any nba issue that the league takes to seriously or to lightly? Like players gambling for example
Good one. I can definitely think of one, and I'll answer in the video
If you could create your own NBA team, what would their brand location and expansion team be?
Hi Jonny, love the channel! Couple of potential questions to consider for the Q&A:
- Pick a starting 5 from each decade 60s/70s/80s/90s who would excel in today's game.
- How important is the "eye test" when evaluating players and how do you quantify it?
- What biases exist in mainstream NBA media and why? How have these biases changed over NBA history?
- What if all NBA legends had long, healthy, 20 year "LeBron style" careers? How would this influence all time rankings?
- Who are your favourite players throughout NBA history and why? No statistical evidence needed, just personal preference!
If the Celtics and Lakers were both completely healthy from 08-10, how many championships does each team have?
Oh thats good. Ive always talked about the what ifs for both teams, but never really narrowed down who I think the victor would be each season. That will definitely make the video.
I think the Celtics would probably have more
Celtics takes 08 and 09, Lakers takes 10
Jonny what do you think can be done to fix the league? The officiating is bad. Player contracts are out of control. Players play no defense and are just chucking three pointers.
I will say, Defense has been MUCH better since the Playoffs, and really since the All-Star game. Averages have come way down. I think Silver spoke to the refs after the absurd All-Star game and told them to let the guys play more.
There's definitely A LOT of things I would change though, so I'll give a through answer to that in the video.
Do you think the Hornets will ever win a championship and if so how far in the future would that be?
I’ll give some thoughts and projections in the video 👍
Do you remember the question of the "clone" team? (team with only one player).
I remember that you picked Larry Bird, but, what are your top 5 players on this experiment?
If you had to create a “Non OP” team of retired players to beat the teams of today who would it be? Meaning not just the 10 best players you could think of
-HC (any non current coach)
-Best player (can be any retired player in history)
-2nd Best player (any player that was never all NBA 1st team)
-3rd Best Player (any player in history not named to an all NBA Team)
4-10 Any non all stars/Non All NBA players in history
That should be fun. I'll break it down in the video
@@jonnyarnett alright that was my last question lol don’t want to flood the comments, you’re one of my favorite UA-cam channels
You went throught a Ultimate Teams serie recently, would you make a list/video on which coach would run your teams ?
What if, the NBA would have a regelation, like Eurpean Leagues.
What rules must be change in the NBA to make it possible - like salary cap changes.
Do you think MJs Bulls could have defeated Hakeems Rockets in the finals if they ever met up?
what a crazy idea
I'm not denying that, but I think you gotta get a little crazy to steal some attention from the powerhouse that is the NBA. lol
I would love to hear you talking about this again but in a more expanded and though version bcs i though your concept is really good! I would just change the name!
If you had an expansion team would you tank or try to sign free agents and make aggressive trades to try and win over the fans even if you probably don't have a good enough roster to win a chip
What do you think is more important when determining a players legacy all time individual stats or accomplishments for example the most dramatic comparison throughout history is Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell
Thanks! I'll breakdown my thoughts in the video
where did you get ur intro music from, why did you pick the clips you did?
Happy Saturday!!!😊😊
What if a old Wilt Chamberlain played on the showtime Lakers with magic and Kareem
Gotcha. That will be fun to tackle
Would it be a hot take to say that Joel Embiid is already one of the biggest underperformers in playoff history?
Solid question. I'll break it down in the vid
You would like to see (at least as an experiment) a tournament where the team with the most Wins to Win the championship? What pros and cons do you see?
I think that would solve the load management...
How would you help the league foster longstanding team rivalries that just don't die when the involved players leave?
I much rather see this same idea but only for old players between 45-55...and possibly another for 55-65
The Big 3 kinda does that, but we know seniors just simply cannot keep up and play good enough to be entertaining or play in an actual game.
What are the most unlucky teams in the nba other than the late 2000s blazers with Greg Oden and B Roy injuries?
Couple other good candidates. I’ll answer that in the video 👍
what're your opinions on players like thon maker and bol bol? do you think either of them would've been a star in the right system due to them being hyped up floor spacing big man (similar to wemby and bigs in today's league)
What does the team have to do when these oldies injured and breaking down? Does half the roster need to be old, and on a rotation scheme?
The league could have its own 2-way system like the NBA does. If your older player gets injured and is inactive, then you gotta bring up someone from the league below it.
@@jonnyarnett does that player have to be over 45? Teams are going to have real, and fake injuries just as the nba does now to keep an old great healthy, or just out because they aren't that good any more.
If you could add impactions of your own to the nba playoffs to make them more interesting such as the play in, what would you add/change?
How would you change the format of NBA?
for exemple:
would you want to 1st seed have byes like in NFL?
scrap playoffs?
And so on
Cool, I’ll tackle that in the vid
I already asked this once, but could you do a video with a top 10 players with the most swag. Also the top 10 players without a ring.
What is your opinion on the euroleague? And also do you like the way they play basketball there ?
what is the best team ever if all their players were in their prime. For example the 2013 Lakers, with prime uninjured Kobe, Nash, Pau and Dwight fair against the 2010 prime big 3 plus prime Shaq
who is in your mount rushmore of NBA UA-camrs? --I don't no if youve done this already nor if youre into other content creators, but i think it could be a neat idea.
I actually haven’t done that yet, but I’ll definitely tackle that 👍
Ate the modern day clippers just the new age 1996 rockets
Best team from each decade play in a home and away series. Hone means using the rules and playing style from the year that team is from.
Who would win that series?
What coach would you have coach each franchise's best teams? Like for your Ultimate Cavs team video who would be the coach? Lenny Wilkins? Ty Lue?
In 50 years how do you predict the game of basketball to look? Not just the NBA but in general, maybe even all time rankings.
Top 5 favorite players from each postion?
Who do you have in the suns vs mavs series? (I got mavs in 6)
200K video question: if you could religiously watch any five year period of the nba that you weren’t able to watch as an adult (or weren’t alive for), which period would you choose? For me, it would be the 60-65 range, as I’d love to see Oscar, Wilt, Elgin, Russell, and West in their athletic prime. And it would probably give me more context to that era I can’t get by just being a basketball history lover.
How do you think people will look back on this current era of superstars (Jokic, Antetokounmpo, Doncic, etc.) in 50 years? Will people call them plumbers the way many call the likes of Chamberlain or Russell now?
Open Court did this a while back, but it's a cool question so I'd like to see you answer it. Taking aspects of different players throughout history, if you were to create the perfect player in a lab as a composite, how would you build them? As an example, Wilt's physical stature and athleticism + Curry's shooting + Bird's IQ, etc. Skills, physical abilities, intangibles, whatever you can think of!
With the pace and play of the current game and not just superstars but also rising stars like Paolo scoring insane numbers that haven’t been seen yet beating out previous records (e.g on nba on tnt Paolo scoring 76 in first 3 playoff games in ORL history compared to shaq’s 62) are we able to use stats as a reliable measure when looking into someone’s greatness or with the stats being pumped up compared to previous players what can we look at to measure a players greatness
Which coach you think fits better in the teams that failed to meet expectations? Lakers, Phoenix, Milwaukee & so on
Will Wemby’s career someday be close to Tim Duncan’s?
Can you do your starting 5 pre-2010s players to compete today’s era, and maybe a starting 5 of current players that would best fit in any pre-2010s era?
What can the NBA do to improve defense once again?
I gotchu. I'll break down my thoughts in the video
If you could combine two players to make the ultimate player who would they be?
My answer: Olajuwon and Jokic. Jokic is pretty much the ultimate offensive weapon. He basically has no weaknesses offensively. Imagine giving him Hakeems speed, agility, athleticism, shot blocking ability, and overall defensive prowess. Oh and Hakeem was pretty good in the post himself.
Lately I feel like I’ve seen some contradicting opinions on what the criteria for the MIP Award should be. But what do you think should merit the award?
If you had to build a team around superstars from the past with players from their time period, from second options all the way to role players to play in today’s league. What stars would you choose and how would you build the team?
Suggestion: Maybe a video on Cheryl Miller (someone born to early) vs Caitlin Clark ?
Do you think someone like ant could become the next mj
Thanks, I’ll answer that one in the vid
No. Absolutely not 😅
what could have happened if lebron never left miami?
If the NBA logo was ever changed, who do you think should be featured and doing what pose?
🎉❤
If the Lakers suddenly folded, what team would you be a fan of?
at this very point, who is a greater buck between giannis and kareem?
Good question. See ya in the 200 vid
Have you read the Bill Russell Vs Wilt Chamberlain chapter in the Big Book of Basketball, and what do you think of it being a wilt fan?
Do you think a professional outdoor basketball league would work. Wind and elements make three pointers harder, which in turn brings back the inside game that's missing from the modern NBA.
What were the closest races to each awards? MVP, MIP & so on
Do you think Klay Thompson would do well carrying his own team
What would be your all time offensive starting 5. I dont mean best individual offensive players but what team of 5 would be the most unstoppable combination offensively. For example, mine would be:
PG: Curry
SG: Bird
SF: Magic
PF: Lebron
C: Jokic
Would also choose acoach to be Steve Kerr running the Warriors Championship movement system (therefore Magic is kind of playing the point forward Draymond Green roll in this offense. That is mine. Do you agree and if not what would yours be?
Which players do you think wouldn't be able to play in any era, we have the players that we can drop from any era into any and they'd be the same dominant player but what about those that wouldn't work in any era outside of their own era
Do you think the nba should get rid of the goal tending rule? I think that goal tending should be allowed as long as the player blocking the shot doesn't touch the rim or net.
how good would Wilt be in todays league
What is the wisest move each free agent aging star could make going into next season? (Paul George, Klay, Westbrook, CP, LeBron, Demar, Harden & so on)
