Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

The very fact that swami vivekananda used to walk in my city as a young kid gives me goosebumps..
your senses are objects, what they perceive are objects, your mind is a subtle object as well as your intelligence. All these things just ride along the stream of consciousness due to them performing the function of making it possible for us to experience material phenomena, but awareness isn't something awareness is aware of like we are aware of a thought or feeling because consciousness is a self-illumined reality of eternal " nowness " or " sameness " and since awareness can't appear in awareness the self is not an object.

Excellent explanation of self enquiry. The ego grasps objects and sustains itself. When it is deprived of objects it has no option but to subside. The beingness is all that remains, the ego didn't have any real existence ever.

Thank you Swamiji. This is what the Christian bible explains as, "...the life was the light of men"; Consciousness/Awareness is the light that shines on objects for us to know anything, which we hardly understand, as Christians.
The word Consciousness is not in the Bible but the teaching is there. This reply is not to put Christians down as Jesus is regarded well by Hindus.
Awareness of what is unreal is said to be the reality! Unreal world, must say!
Beyond body, mind and perception, there's life! A game. A chance!
Knower known and knowing all resolve as ONE🙏🕉️

Another nice way to see this is to compare awareness with a movie screen. When the movie is being played many things can be seen: scary things, funny things, ugly things etc. All these things look very real and people in the theatre may be very frightened by them, or laugh their heads off. But at the end of the movie the screen is as blank as before. No light is able to change the screen. So awareness can be compared to the movie screen which is always there and which makes us perceive objects, like Swami Sarvapryananda tells us.
