Nice job of explaining. Starting my full time RV adventure in March. Last thing on my list and I found you. Calm and clear with instructions. I too bought a Montana. Thanx, -AmazingKeith
I have an Air 360+ with the GW-1000 gateway router and generally it works alright. One big limitation is that it only operates on 2.4Ghz, not the 5.8Ghz frequency (the Winegard Osprey has a better radio but is more expensive and the only two carriers is supports are Winegard FreedomGo and T-Mobile). So many different devices operate in the 2.4Ghz band that affect the overall performance of the GW-1000. Originally used the Winegard Connect (FreedomGo) SIM card that came with the GW-1000, but at $50.00 for 10GB data usage, it was simply too little data and cost way too much. Switched out the SIM with one from a Samsung phone (that was already on an unlimited mobile phone data plan) and it worked great; No data cap because the GW-1000 "looks" like the phone to the tower, basically, and was much cheaper than any other data plan marketed by Winegard. However, you're still limited by proximity to the carrier tower plus any obstructions (trees, buildings, topography, etc.) just like on your mobile phone. Also, I've observed that the GW-1000 gets bogged down when too many devices are connected, even when the signal strength to the Air 360+ is at 90% plus. Despite speed tests via the GW-10000 showing upwards of 50Mbps down / 20Mbps up (AT&T 4G LTE network), it is still too slow for an Apple TV 4K, and frequently becomes unresponsive requiring a reboot. Ended up getting a couple of cheap phones through Visible and using the hotspot functionality, and while the speeds through Visible are throttled to no greater than 5Mbps, it works great as a dedicated streaming device for the Apple TV 4K (still perplexed why this is the case, but it is). The other Visible phone is used strictly for work connectivity and works well, provided the Verizon (Visible parent company) 4G LTE signal is strong enough. The other caveat with Visible is that your hotspot is limited to a single external device connection (there are ways around this - using a travel router, for example - but you lose efficiency when you bridge devices via wi-fi and your speeds are noticeably slower). $25.00 per line / month isn't too crazy though, and there are no contracts. Everything else - two HomePods, two iPads, two MacBooks, and the In-Command Global Connect system that came with my Keystone rig - is connected to the GW-1000 and works well enough. Winegard is preparing to launch a new 5G setup (new roof-mount dome with accompanying 5G gateway router) but it's priced at about $1200.00 for the pair, currently. Look up "Air 360+ 5G and Gateway 5G (GW-5G01). The Air 360+ 5G has a couple more antennas than the 4G LTE version, but has the same physical footprint. The GW-5G01 also has the same interior footprint at the GW-1000. Maybe if the price comes down, I will check it out lol. We're not going to see residential internet access and speeds at least until the 5G networks are built out, and even then there are about three "flavors" of 5G coverage (bands, frequencies, etc.) that will impact connection speeds, along with several other factors in terms of physical infrastructure compared to residential internet.
I finally installed the winegard but to be honest I am very disappointed, it keeps dropping the wifi for no reason. I would have to reboot the winegard.. still waiting for winegard to reach out with a solution. Seems like I am not the only one with this problem.
We have the Wineguard Air 360+ that was preinstallled on our 2021 Keystone Montana 3791RD. We have not fully understood how to use it. Thank you for a great video that helps us understand better. But we still have a question: once we buy the Gateway router for $350, where do we get a sim card for it? We have a Verizon plan/Verizon iPhones, with unlimited data. Do we have to buy a sim card from a verizon store, just for the Gateway, and then pay for another data plan???
Thank you. Very informative and to the point. I getting ready to buy the Netgear Nighthawk or the Wingard router. I have the Wingard air 360 +. Which has worked best for you in more remote locations. We will use mostly for Netflix. Thanks again for taking the time to make the video. Eric
Is there a video for those of us with a new 2021 RV with a factory installed Winegard 360 Air + but NO interior prep, AND show how to install it inside the dome of the 360 Air+?
There is in the Palomino Owners Manual, but still trying to buy the bottom white “Gateway” from somewhere. forestriverinc.com/files/Component-Manuals/Antenna%20-%20Satellite/Winegard%20-%20WiFi%20Router%20Model%20GW-1000%20Operation%20Guide.pdf There is also a video in the Owners Manual on how to attach the Gateway.
Make sure you have an Air360+ installed and not a plain Air360. I went crazy figuring out how to install the gateway router to my 2021 TT only to discover that I have an Air360, not an Air 360+. The Air360 is only for TV and AM/FM.
Turns out my new RV didn’t have a 360 Air+, sooooo I purchased the Winegard Connection 2.0, and it’s not worth a tinkers damn, it does NOT provide the WIFI support purported by the seller. You HAVE to have a STRONG internet (NOT A HOTSPOT, because it won’t ALLOW a connection between the 2.0 and the internet, or so a Winegard rep told me) and constant RV park internet fluctuations don’t help!
Having the 360+ installed and prepped for the gateway on my TT, I was looking at purchasing the Nighthawk M1 and connecting the antenna cables to the 360+. What are your thoughts on this setup? From my research, I think I would just be loosing the WI-FI benefits of the Winegard gateway. Thanks in advance…
Yes I think it should certainly work well. No matter which router you use, having its antenna on the roof instead of inside or in a window should make a huge difference.
When I first set it up I had issues. Emailed winegard and they had me do a firmware upgrade. Been much better since. I do find myself restarting router a couple times a week but been pretty reliable with 3 smart tvs, 5 cellphone, tablet, and 4 laptop...I have found some campground WiFi get mad when you connect them to a router as well.
If I don’t have the router is there anything I have to do pick up the signal in the campground, through the Winegard boosting my signal other than logging in with their code
I have no experience with the Connect 2, however I believe the air 360 adds the HDtv antenna functionality where the Connect 2 just has wifi and cellular.
@@rerouterv4391 So which router do you recommend to use with the Winegard Air 360 ATSC 3.0 Ready HD Ready that came with my living quarters horse trailer? THANKS!
@@IcePonyGoddess Not sure if that is the air360+. There are 2 that I am aware of the original 360 and the 360+. Those you have to use the proprietary winegard g1000 as far as I know.
Even though I use both, I would say it is better for 2 reasons: 1) it amplifies the signal from the cell tower and receives the signal from the roof versus from inside the RV at a window or such. 2) It has the additional feature of amplifying/receiving the campgrounds WiFi signal as well.
BEST EXPLANATION EVER!! Thank you!

I use net gear router with my winegard get 12-17 mps
Is this good for streaming Netflix Hulu and gaming?
Thanks just ordered mine, how is it been doing? I will be getting a 4g sim card from At&t for 2 month of unlimited data.
If it acts slow....be sure to reset the router through the web interface...😉
I have this setup and have nothing but problems with the router. Calling Winegard again tomorrow.

If I don’t have the router is there anything I have to do pick up the signal in the campground, through the Winegard boosting my signal other than logging in with their code
There are 3 antennae wires in the ceiling connected to the antennae. I suppose if you have a router or device with that fitting it will work.
Can you swap the sim card from the Winegard router to the portable hotspot router?
Absolutely and I do at times. There are different sizes sims so I bought an adapter kit on Amazon for that reason.
Which is better, Winegard ConnecT 2.0 or Winegard 360+? thanks for the vid!
I have no experience with the Connect 2, however I believe the air 360 adds the HDtv antenna functionality where the Connect 2 just has wifi and cellular.
How about the Winegard Gateway?
It works alright...they continue to update which helps with reboots. I would say I have to reboot about every other day...

So, in other words, the GW1000 will increase the speed of the internet, even thought you only use campground/rv park Wi-Fi?
It will not necessarily increase the speed but it will amplify the signal from the antenna's around the RV park.
@@rerouterv4391 Most parks don't want folks redistributing / re-routing their wi-fi, so, caveat emptor.

Do you need the sim card and data plan if you just connect to the camp ground wi fi?
Nope...Safe Travels!!
Will this work with a hot spot?
I guess the easy answer is no but you can take the SIM card out of a hot spot and put it in the gw1000 router.
How the speed
Speed was based on the LTE service I was using or the Campgrounds WiFi. It varies from place to place.
Cost??
It is around $350 currently
