- Taylor Rogers, a Houston area woman, has filed a lawsuit against the city of Santa Fe and two members of the Santa Fe Police Department after she claims officers held her face in a pile of fire ants during a 2021 arrest. "Ants are on my face, ants are getting on my face. Please, help," Rogers can be heard yelling in police camera footage. "How could y'all do this? Ants are on my face, please let go."
In the court document, Taylor Rogers names the City of Santa Fe, Santa Fe PD Sergeant Ruben Espinoza, and officer Christian Carranza are named as defendants. During a press conference Saturday, an attorney for Rogers claimed she was bitten by ants more than 300 times.

I am a Marine and laid on a fire ant mound once while shooting prone. Holy GOD it was unbearable and I took on all on my torso and almost went into shock from all the bites. I cant imagine my face and head being swarmed. Yeah. This is torture. 100%

When I was 13 I had a bad habit of eating in my bed. Woke up to a swarm eating my arm. It took 2 months to heal. I don't remember it hurting me personally a ton but If I was awake during maybe it would have.

It’s amazing how many people want to say “don’t brake laws if you don’t want to get arrested” when it comes to incidents involving police. But it’s cases like this that show anyone is just one tiny mistake from having a negative interaction. Did I get this right? She made an illegal turn then refused to stop for police. Then she tried to back out of the school zone (I'm guessing to avoid the cop that was waiting for her) The cop decided she was endangering children so he slammed his car into her car to stop her...endangering her and the child in her car. (It will be interesting to see if he was actually protecting any kids nearby requiring this car crash intervention) Then they handcuffed her and pushed her face into a fire ant bed. She started screaming and telling them the ants were biting her. The cops were going to get her up quickly but she was squirming in pain (known in police documents as "resisting" police) so they pushed her face back into the ant bed for a while more. So physical injuries to the woman, possibly the child in the car, damage to the woman's car and damage to the police cruiser for an illegal turn & failure to stop. Now they have expensive lawsuit. These cops have anger issues! Sure, she should have stopped but that cop could have run her plate dealt with this later. De-escalation would have prevented pain, suffering and a lot of tax payer dollars.
Ok. Now that I've heard more of the story the lady was wrong, but the Police should have just taken her to jail.

😮A little definition of what a fire ant is. A fire ant is kind of like a little baby scorpion it's not the fire ant bite that gives you any trouble it has a stinger on its tail that injects Venom into you. As soon as an ant starts to bite it releases a pheromone that triggers the other ants to start biting. This is why they bite so fast and rapidly. There is another story on UA-cam where a lady stepped on an ant hill with her foot but she apparently was allergic to them and she had less bites than this lady and she died. This lady here probably came close to death with having over 300 bites on her😮

The officer holding her down and the officer brushing the ants off of her arm so they don’t bit the officer holding her in the pile. He can try to claim he was using pain compliance however he still has a mandate to keep her safe and that was not keeping her safe. It was torture because of ego.

I saw that. At first i thought she was being handcuffed but watching the video carefully i realized that she was already restrained but then the guy put his body weight on her restricting her movement. Omg! What would make a cop, who is to protect and serve, do this, especially after George Floyd. You even see 5 other cops standing around doing nothing to stop this, which means they should be culpable as well.

The cop INTENTIONALLY holding her down needs to be fired and charged criminally for torture, and the other cops should also be charged for torture.

I lived in Sarasota Florida for over 10 years. Florida also has Fire Ants. I was bit on by many on one arm one time doing some outside work at a job. Luckily I wasnt allergic, but still not fun.
One time, was living in a RV camping resort. We got our mail at front office. Was waiting in line to get our mail one day. Lady drove up there, was asking for help. No one else wanted to leave the line to help her, but I did. Her friend had picked up an air plant that the bottom was covered with fire ants, that she didnt see in time. She had hundreds of bites. Luckily there was a woman that was a nurse that lived in the resort, so I went and got her.
Another time, I was horseback riding. Place I went regularly, was a family with little boy.
Instead of keeping better eye on him, thet let him play in the dirt. He was covered in fire ants. They cad to call EMS out to take him to hospital. I think owners of stables even warned parents about letting him play in the dirt if I remember right.
Cruel and inhumane treatment as retaliation is criminal. And a depravation of rights under the color of law
