That's ridiculous. By that logic why not add Hitler and Stalin to the list of people to respect. They were certainly true to their convictions too. That's only an admirable characteristic if you have honorable convictions.

No , he does not. He served one of the most brutal, awful, barbarian country that ever existed, responsible for killing millions of human beings. Guy served people who committed crimes against humanity, ruled others by terror and created death camps. They killed more people than Nazis, and much more hurt in other ways. And this son of bitch helped them voluntarily.

Its all about ideology and convictions . Blake believed in communism in justice for the people , the agents he betrayed were western corporations vicious criminals ,mercenaries serving the exploiters of the people , so in his concept , they deserved it .

The horror of bombing civilians during the Korean war does not make the murder of tens of millions of Russians, Ukrainians, Checks, Poles, Hungarians, Estonians, Lithuanians etc. the 'right' side. The Western world has a mechanisms for adjudicating injustices, the Soviets didn't. Blake was confusing the words righteousness and retribution.

Hearing his story, I wonder how many bombings he really did see in North Korea as a POW... Being over there, he knows the North Koreans started the war & were running roughshod through the South.
After UN troops got involved & started to regain ground, surely he'd know to expect heavy bombing campaigns as was typical in all wars at that point. Civilian casualties would certainly be terrible under any circumstance, but as an British intelligence officer he would know this is happening from the side as well... so how would switching sides alleviate that?
Sounds like he just used it as an excuse to sell to Western war-protesters after the fact, when in reality he probably did it to get out of being tortured as a POW, which lead to future KGB interest in how to use him going forward. From there, he likely was incentivized by the carrot instead of the stick.
No matter what the reason, he sold out over 400 undercover names to the KGB, and did so because he thought they wouldn't be hurt?! Again, BS! This is either the dumbest "intelligence" officer ever, or just a huge liar.

@@kenkrak4649 and your country prospers today? Is your housing situation figured out? Do your citizens have healthcare, are they truly free? Mr.Blake did what he did not for money or greed but out of passion for a greater good. Quite literally. The difference between honorable Sir Blake and the spies who fled the USSR, is that the ones who fled from the USSR did so for their own personal financial gain. He lived a long, successful, and prosperous life, and he will be remembered as such, and there is nothing you can do about it. Mission accomplished.

@@kutuzovm3215 You're just another typical westerner who thinks they know everything better, but you haven't lived a day under communism. We live MANY times better now than before. Most eastern European countries have 3%-5% GDP growth, we can start businesses, we don't have to fear that we will be taken away in a black car because the neighbor snitched on us, and I can go on. Healthcare and education is free by the way but that is a minor consideration compared to the other things that I have listed.
