Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at a first time reaction made possible via PATREON with Le Grand Orchester du Splendid and their song "La Salsa du Démon." What a crazy rhythmic, almost brass infused song just in time for those parties. See me go bananas on this!!

I would never think I would see this super funny song from my childhood. "The Demon's Salsa" is from the year 1980 and I remember partying with children when I was little ...... thank you Dereck for reminding me of this pleasant memory hahahah
Dereck... À long time ago, my friends and I, in a catholic school we were, made this song, for a feast, because we wanted to have fun... I was Vampirella, oh my god, dressed like a hore... Everybody was laughing, pupils, teatchers... Except the directrice, you can imagine... I miss my youngness , able to do everything... That was a great memory... One of my friend who was doing trompets died 3 years ago, a so nice friend... I keep that in my heart forever

En fait, en premier, c’est un orchestre de jazz. Ils ont fait aussi la chanson "Macao" dans le même délire, style Bob Marley mais ils se produisent toujours en France et à l'étranger comme des jazzmen.

En fait je dirais que c'est plus le rythme du "ska" que celui de la "salsa". Mais ce n'est que mon avis. Leur chanson "Macao" est un bon "reggae" : génial !!

The rhythm and overall style is more ska than salsa, and the brass section sounds more like Yma Sumac mambo style.
On a more "serious" note, Bernard Lavilliers - La Salsa is really legit. Ray Barretto plays in this song.
And Richard Gotainer - Le Mambo du décalco ( among many other jewels) is quite entertaining too...

In the 80’s we didn’t know much of salsa in Europe. So the latin groove was rather new.
This song was played at family gatherings and most parties. It was a lot of fun but most people didn’t really listen to the lyrics. Even though the lyrics are quite foul. 😂

Le grand orchestre du Splendid est un groupe qui tourne encore, ils jouent de leurs instruments et chantent, ce sont de vrais artistes.

It was a humorous song from the French bawdy tradition ... In family celebrations, this song was a pretext to dance "la chenille" 🐛 ( a traditional silly dance ) People hold each other by the waist and dance in a line ... like the Conga 🇫🇷😘

They could have called "Samba du démon" as well ;) Yep rythm isn't salsa (nor mambo nor latin jazz nor timba, etc) but it was at a time actual salsa music was not yet listen to nor danced in France, maybe just by a very few ones.

When I was twelve our music teacher at the college wanted us to learn this song and to sing it in the classroom. Unfortunately, some parents of pupils found the text of the song in our scholars books and complained about it because they were choked. Our Music teacher had to withdraw this song from our program and was sanctioned for this tentative. Most of pupils were disappointed because we found this song so funny without understanding all the sexual meaning. It's good memories for me even if our teacher had to face difficulties because of that song!

Merci Dereck, c’était une période durant laquelle on s amusait beaucoup en France. Il y avait aussi des chanteurs comme Richard Gotainer qui associait la bonne musique et l’humour.
