  • XPeng's XNGP is one of the best autonomous driving systems in China, but how does it fare in a second-tier Chinese city at rush hour? We've tried it in Shanghai where things are more organised and driving standards better, but we've never tested it like this before.
    Join us as we test the system against the full variety of China's road challenges.

    It would be nice to see a comparison of the major systems being developed in China (Xpeng, Nio, Li Auto, Huawei, perhaps IM Motors... ) under similar conditions 😊.
    I suspect Xpeng and Huawei will come out on top, but there could be surprises 😅

    • @InsideChinaAuto

      I'll certainly try, but not easy to get all at the same time and the same city. I've got videos of Huawei, XPeng and Li (kind of) in different cities and different times, but I'll get updated Li and Huawei soon, and try NIO too.

    This city seams not having been tested correctly, not enough Xpeng drivers there who use the XNGP daily... Things will be improved in few weeks... One upgrade each month, and update each 2 days of the driving abilities. The XP is new, already well used in some places but not in all cities, especially those which still do not have 3D maps, which are not necessary but still useful in some difficult cases like without LCC activated in the roundabout where the 3 takeover was required to get out if it...

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  3 місяці тому

      Sure. XNGP is a great system but the test here was a full rush hour test in a less refined city and we can see it has some work to improve, but it will eventually and more roads will be opened in time.

    Awesome 😍😍😍😍 thank you very much for the very exhaustive test, and all the information that you provide 👍👍
    It will be really interesting to see you test the upcoming models, so that you can let us know their differences. I can't believe that in some years we'll be able to use these systems in Europe, as it seems that the European Union will change some of the normative at the end of the year 😁😁

      Afraid I've not heard much about the upgrade path for the ADAS in other regions. The key will be that Hawkeye is visual only so provided the Orin-X chip is there, there's no technical reason it shouldn't be available in future once local testing is complete.

      @@InsideChinaAuto Thanks for the quick replying. Here are lists of questions about EV cars in China, I wnt to buy one:
      1) Which brand and which model do you think is the best 6/7 seaters?
      2) Can you set the speed limit, ie 90km/h, then it drives itself on the highway and follow the car in front? if the car in front is too slow, u can ask it to overtake?
      3) Does it come with emergency stop when a dog or something jumps onto the road in front of you?

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  Місяць тому +1

      @F1972HSI7 Personal favourite in this segment is this one, the XPeng X9, though the Zeekr 009 is also great, but more expensive and less manoeuvrable, something you'll want in the UK. Both will very soon be available in RHD when the X9 starts sales in Hong Kong. If you plan to drive, X9. If you plan to be driven, 009.
      In both, you'll be able to set the limit and let the car do it's thing, and both should have the ability to perform overtakes by themselves, but how well they're set up for UK roads I don't know as they'll be imported if you get one.
      They do of course come with emergency stop, AEB, a whole tonne of active safety features. Like any system, the limitation is on how close you are when an animal runs in front of you, but the system should recognise dogs.

      @@InsideChinaAuto Thanks Buddy your quick and detailed reply! I guess you live in China right? Its always a joy to watch your videos and get replies from you! I live in Hong Kong, used to live in UK and Germany. I drive a BMW X5 and I am tempted to pay 30000 cny to add on a Acc Pro assisted Driving system, which includes the functions I asked earlier this morning. Functions such as highway and traffic jam following the car in front system, or it drives itself on the motorway, blind spots, emergency if something comes up! This function saved me when I was driving for several days in UK visiting friends in cities, got tired one day and driving on the fast lane on the motorway, didn't notice there was a traffic jam comes up and the rented Kia stopped the car completely, otherwise I would have hit. So really would need this function as I am getting older and tiring easier...
      Another thing I want to ask, I am fascinated with the 0-100 acceleration. I am on 5.5sec with my current car and see if these EV can deliver similar pace?
      Lastly, the car manufactories always mention how far can this EV deliver in terms of distance, what would be the realistic KM for this X9?

  • @HyperionLogic

    The most impressive thing for me was how the system knew how much time is left before the lights change. Is there integration between the car and the traffic light control system or is it a guess by the car? Also, how often are the high definition maps updated and how does the system deal with construction that alters the road but is not yet in the map.

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  3 місяці тому +2

      When the car has the lights timing, it's because it's connected to the infrastructure. It's not on every light but it is on many.
      As for the maps, not sure how often they're updated but the car only has them as a backup. It uses vision first to get around, 'creating' the world it sees around it, which means it should handle construction as well. I'd be interested to see how far this has come in a city like Guangzhou because there's so much construction there, it's like a new map every day.

      @@InsideChinaAuto Thanks for the reply! I wish my country Canada has that kind of futuristic infrastructure.

    • @mariusvanc
      @mariusvanc 3 місяці тому

      The only way to do self driving is with sensors transponders and integration with infrastructure. Otherwise it's a deathtrap. Even so, with human drivers on the road many unexpected conditions will come up that will be very difficult to handle. But I notice that when driving, the surrounding vehicles are jumping all over the screen, this is very concerning, tells me the sensors or object detection on the car are not very good.

    • @networm78
      @networm78 3 місяці тому +2

      It doesn't need to be HD-mapped. But it needs to first be verified by test drivers before they open the road for XNGP. However, they have a new feature called valet driving that allows the driver to train the car on a route based on the driver's driving habits, so that it will work even on roads that are not open to XNGP.
