  • We are now working on the last section of our boat interior and the biggest surface left in need of final sanding and spot filling. That consists in: the salon, the galley on the starboard side and the middle room (as we call it) on the port side. We make some long awaited changes!
    The LATEST UPDATE is that you can see what Wilda looks like in REAL TIME and you can support us by joining our Patreon community! Thanks so much for even thinking about it! The link to PATREON is here:

    Wilda is a Schionning Wilderness 1340 sailing catamaran. She is being finished in a shed outside Melbourne. Wilda will be powered by the Sun, the Wind and the Sea...

    It’s a small galley to dedicate all that space for a dishwasher (maybe dishwasher nearer to where you eat?). But of course all design is a compromise. Great work.😀👍

    • @buildingwilda
      @buildingwilda  2 місяці тому

      Yes .. the space was intended for a gas oven and stove. It's gone now... Well, actually it is gathering dust... Anyway. The space of an oven was available.
      We put in another oven. In place of a shelf specially built for some of the ugliest porslin i have ever seen 🤣
      So yes, a big space... But like you say, compromise...

    Dish washer for sure! Also, in the crockery area, convection oven perhaps?

      Sounds great! Electric oven in the crockery shelf space and dishwasher in the space just opposite to it, on the stb side. Hope to make it all work! Thanks for the comment!

    Love it. Where does the cooktop go?

    • @buildingwilda
      @buildingwilda  6 місяців тому

      The plan is to have several cooktops. Little induction Cook tops that stow away when not in use. That also alows us to move the galley outdoors when we want to. And gives us more work area when they are not needed.
      IKEA has a good option and so do several other manufacturers. Space when you need it and where you need it is the idea.

    Lol that catlery draw must have taken someone ages to build 😂. Oven much better use for the space

      Indeed, we felt sorry for destroying somebody else's work, but sometimes we have to do it to make it better, hopefully! Thanks for the comment and hope you return next week!

    I have never understood choosing a monohull sailboat over a catamaran or trimaran. The stability and space of the catamaran is, to my way of thinking, far superior to a monohull. You are doing a great job on your cat, and I love the sleek shape of the house. So many of today’s catamarans have boxy salons.

    • @buildingwilda
      @buildingwilda  6 місяців тому

      Sweet! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! We obviously prefer a cat, but we know there are many monohull lovers out there as well :) We hope to get Wilda out on the water soon, so as to be able to enjoy sailing her! It's been a lot of work and too long time in the shed!

      Tbh for north European and some extent med sailors it’s berthing costs lack of haul out options space and costs then the base cost of the boats

      Even getting into marinas. Many places in the Baltic have very narrow entrances and no spaces at all for really wide boats.
      But the Baltic is far away, we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.
      Meanwhile looking forward to tropical shallow protected anchorages in Australia, then perhaps SE Asia.

    Giday guys live your work how many ton will it WAY on completion Graham from Pakenham around the corner

    • @buildingwilda
      @buildingwilda  6 місяців тому

      G'Day :) Haha, thanks Graham! Nice to know we have "neighbours" following our channel! Thanks for your feedback! We expect Wilda to weigh around 6 tons, that's just a rough number at the moment, as we have made a few changes to the original design. The main change is shifting from Diesel engine propulsion to electric motors - therefore removal of diesel tanks and engines will significantly reduce weight. Follow along and we'll get to that in a while! ;)

    Hi Guys, what are your thoughts on how you are going to vent the oven in that cubby hole you have created for it? Also do you think that you might hit your heads on the rest of the crockery shelf you have left ? What is behind the oven cubby hole? What do you think of creating an access hole for any electrical work you night have to do to the oven? Thanks for the great video

    • @buildingwilda
      @buildingwilda  6 місяців тому +1

      There is nothing there for us to hit our heads on.
      You have a point about the ventilation. We'll drill a couple of large holes to provide some additional ways for air to move around the oven. The oven is fairly decently insulated, and there is some space above where heat can escape. Hopefully we will be able to vent it well enough.
      As for pulling cables, the boat has lots of conduit placed in most spaces. Pulling cables will be a challenge we're going to get into pretty soon.
      At some point we intend to add some sort of extraction fan as well, but that will be further in the future.
      The oven is actually under the salon seating... Will be warm and cosy when cooking 🤣
      It's a boat, trying to squeeze things in where we can 🤣
      Hope you stick around for more!
      Axe and Rox
