Thank you for this. I do not believe Jesus's divine power was diminished at all.

Interesting explanation, my question is, how could Jesus be the perfect sacrifice for humanity if there was an aspect of his nature that wasn't human? A perfect sacrifice would go through everything we go through, yet not sin. It wouldn't be equivalent if Jesus had a divine 'finger on the scale' while at the same time being human. That wouldn't reflect a full human experience as there is something extra he brings to the table that we never could embody.

I think Jesus being the perfect sacrifice is not about His nature but rather what God is asking. For example, God specifically commanded the Israelites what animals should be sacrificed for sin offering. He did not asked for any kind but specific. In the same way, Jesus came carrying the specific plan of God for redemption. He even said that “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” He was obedient to the Father even unto death. Jesus is sinless not only because of His divine nature, but also because of His perfect obedience. So far this is what I have grasp and still want to learn more so I can see more the magnitude of His greatness. God bless you brother.

9:57 Isn't it obvious? Jesus is God's self-insert character. We live in a novel under His typewriter.

So we have a triune God, the Father, son, and Holy Spirit, with one side being a duel natured ( The son) yet only durring his ministry on earth is that what is being said here?

Am I to understand that Jesus endured human suffering to the point of death, but that his divinity was somehow preserved?
Surely, he was born again in the flesh, that we may be born again in the spirit.
There is no hollow sacrifice or pretence of death.
Jesus took off the mantle of his divinity, and put on the robes of humanity.
    He then entered into creation.
    His destruction was complete.
    Revelation 5:4-10

God is sustaining material existence moment by moment.
There is never a diminution of divine power anywhere.
But it is God's will to have a complex and diverse contingent reality, to delegate experience and choices to his creations.
The body of Jesus was a special creation of the Spirit for a particular purpose, but the divine will was ever present. Restraint was that will.

The only aspect of His divinity which Jesus did not have was being omnipresent; he was 'limited', by his own choice, "He humbled Himself", Philippians 2. Every other aspect of the Godhead which we see in God we saw in Jesus.

If Jesus took on a second nature at certain time then he changed.

    • @YuDynasty

The key thing is His divine nature is unchangeable/immutable. The son of God can add to his person a human nature, But that does not mean that the divine nature has changed.

Why does Phillipians 2 seems to refer to Jesus as, not God, but some non-human being who was (originally) equal in power and authority to God?

Philippians 2 show that Jesus is not the Father but although Jesus is not the Father, Paul confesses that he is included in the divine identity of God. Yahweh’s identity is not just the Father but also the Son. That is why, at the end of the hymn, Paul quotes from Isaiah 45:23. All knees should bow to Yahweh in Isaiah but for Paul, all knees should bow to Jesus, to the glory of his Father without any hint of blasphemy or idolatry. This is also the reason that Jesus is in the “form of God” and “equal with God”, according to this hymn. God’s divine identity is the Father and the Son in this hymn.

@@joeyhenry7287 I don't understand. The hymn made it clear that God exalted Jesus back to a status that is equal to Him because Jesus, as someone originally equal in power to Him (6), chose to become His servant and die as a human (7). Due to his service/obedience to Him, God exalted Jesus by giving him the "name" of the Lord (9). We should bow to Jesus because God wants us to do so, because God made Jesus into the Lord who rule over us (11).
Your interpretation of the hymn doesn't make sense to me. More specifically, I don't understand your explanation of 11 and how this is the reason for Jesus being in the "form of God". On top of that, where did you get the idea of God's divine identity being the Father and Jesus? (Is it possible for one to get this idea just from the hymn?)

I would push back on the definition that was provided here that God is immutable. That definition or understanding is incorrect. God became flesh, that in itself demonstrates that God added something to himself that was not there before. He took on the form of man. That’s before you even get into the other stuff. Literally, by Jesus taking on another form he didn’t have before means he changed.
Jesus didn’t do the things he did because he was God, he was led by Spirit and walked in the power of the Spirit.
Luke4:1 Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
Luke 4:14 14 Then Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and news of Him went out through all the surrounding region.
Matthew 12:28 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you.

On top of this, the OT quotes that support the immutability of God has always been taken out of context of the respective stories.

God is born of a woman, and yet there was no change or limits for Him in the womb? He was like mega-super baby in the womb, able to do mega differential calculus in the womb and tell you how many stars there were at the age of 1 month?

Mr Ass. Professor, may I just advance what I know to be true? God is unchangeable, He is immutable and this is undeniable and irrefutable according to scripture, nevertheless, He can do what He wills. If God chose to appear, to you lets say, as a man, He could. Or as anything He may want to appear as but I do not know God's mind. God bless you.

You have made Him a little lower than the angels; -Hebrews 2:7-
But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. -Hebrews 2:9-
    You conveniently forgot these. ALSO
Glorify me with the same glory that I had with you before the world was -John 17:5-
Here's a question, did Jesus do all those miracles by His own power, or through the power of the Holy Spirit.
