    Thank you Jim Driver for this video and I am really looking forward to Part 2.
    I can never thank you enough for promoting Jerry Lee Lewis at the 100 Club. It was a great night and marvellous to Jerry in a small club rather than a big theatre.

      Thanks for supporting my gigs, Graham! Part 2 is taking a little longer to assemble…

    The Fabulous Thunderbirds was the last band I watched at the 100 Club. Good show Kim Wilson being the only original member. I remember the pong of the drains emanating from the Men's loo. Looking forward to part 2 .

      That could well have been my show, Mark. I've not been back inside the 100 Club since my last gig as a promoter there with Wilko Johnson on New Year's Eve 2010. For reasons I will explain in part 2 …

      Thanks, David. Part 2 will be more personal. I too had some great times at the 100 Club. Pity I was asked to leave…

    Interesting stuff..I discovered the club while a student in the UK and went to two or three gigs there between 1969- 1970 It was trad jazz but I remember seeing for the first time a “ blues man” in person - Lowel Fulsom from USA .I think BB King May have performed one night Did not know then those guys were / would be the big stars but the club was fun ( nice vibe) and I still remember it Been back in my country since 1971 ,

      Thanks for the feedback, Olivia. If you went there today I'm pretty sure you'd recognise it. I know last time I was there the ceiling hadn't been painted since the 1960s. Now, that's devotion to the old ways…

    The sound was always shocking down there.

    • @JimDriver
      @JimDriver  Рік тому

      To be fair, I think it depended on where you stood and who was doing the sound. The Chuck Berry gig sound was amazing!

    Good stuff Jim. Look forward to Part 2. In spite of some of it;s drawbacks I have to say I enjoyed many nights @ The 100 , both as a punter & in my days as a Manager/ Agent. Also great to see you looking well - it's over 5 years since we last met @ another West End Venue - The Borderline - any thoughts about doing a piece about that place ?

    • @JimDriver
      @JimDriver  3 роки тому +1

      Glad you enjoyed it, Mike. Part 2 will be more about my personal experiences at the 100 Club. Good and bad. I think the Borderline could be next but that'll be much shorter…

      @@JimDriver - look forward to the Bordeline vid - I put on Country Joe and The Country Joe Band on there for quite a few years, and got to know the late Barry Marshall Everitt well. Still great mates with his missus, Bex Marshall., who I last saw in San Francisco!

    How very interesting. I was probably just narrow minded with having a real privilege to have performed at the 100 club 1983 with ABH during a punk festival. Now at the age of 57 I long to return ☺️

    As you say, Ron Watts (RIP) wasn't a punk, he just found himself in the right place at the right time to become part of punk folklore. His more common haunt was the late lamented Nags Head in High Wycombe where he put on some great (and not so great) nights throughout the 70's and 80's and also some legendaty gigs at High Wycombe Town Hall. I had you and Ron down as kindred spirits Jim - am I wide of the mark?

    • @JimDriver
      @JimDriver  3 роки тому

      No, Ron and I got on well whenever our paths crossed. I just couldn't stand Brewer's Droop, in the same way I wasn't keen on Jackie Lynton or Dumpy's Rusty Nuts. Never liked that kind of "pissed up rock" stuff…

  • @Compliment_Thief

    Just recently saw your stuff about Wilco and Dr Feelgood. Got to say you come over as if you have an axe to grind mate..If Wilco was alive today and we asked him, I’m sure..we’d get the real and true story.

      1) I was actually there, axe or not; and 2) I can spell Wilko Johnson's name…

    • @JimDriver
      @JimDriver  Рік тому

      Back in the day, "everyone" drank in The Ship in Wardour Street and the Intrepid Fox was left to hard rockers. Things changed a bit in the 1990s but, as far as I know, the Fox was never a live music venue of any note…
