      Very very true! Amongst most watch enthusiasts the F-91W is a classic time piece that just about all watch collectors have in their collection. Myself being in the maritime industry I work in some of the most harshest environments that can test any gear. I see that exact Casio and similar ones like it for just a few dollars more on the wrist of most of my brothers of the sea out here.

      @No you I think it's important to note that not everyone is a watch enthusiast. I actually thought it was refreshing that he didn't immediately search an "F91W", however he did recognize a generic digital Casio.
      Most people that buy a watch for practical time keeping purposes (not collecting or as a hobby) are going to be searching Amazon in much the same way. It's actually telling that he instinctively chose a venerable F91W over a garbage fashion watch (digital or not).

      No judgment if you reuse the same wallet, keychain, and/or watch. It would be hard to do much better than the Casio without veering into $30 Timex Weekender territory. I suspect knives and flashlights drive most of your views anyway. What? I'm not projecting - YOU'RE projecting! 😂

    The Casio F-91W is legendary, it's functional quality is commonly overlooked. Many videos to back that up. I have one as my EDC for years but the wristband was too small so I swappped it for another.

  • @robertmorano2372
    @robertmorano2372 5 років тому

    for literally a few dollars more, you can get a metal version of the f91w (well the band is metal, and the case is painted silver) or an all black, casio "royale" (cant remember the model number) but it runs about $15, is larger on the wrist, has world time, and that cool bond look, james bond. I have recently stumbled upon your budget EDC videos. I consider myself somewhat of a budget edc aficionado, I pride myself on my own budget minded carry setups and just think there's nothing better than good, usable carry tools that get the job done and are always there for you. There's just something so satisfying about having what you need when you need it. Can't wait for more content.

    I had a couple of Casio’s back in the 80’s. I sailed & canoed and I was happy with a watch I wouldn’t cry over if I smashed or lost it. Also, they were, unusually for the day, waterproof enough to swim with.

    I would skip the wallet (if I have to squeeze my EDC into 50$ I probably have no money anyway) and flashlight (got my phone), grab any pen lying around the house or job and get:
    Opinel No. 06 Carbone - 14$ - love that knife and have been edcing it exclusively for 3 years straight.
    Casio F91W - 10$ - great pick
    Victorinox Manager (if I can get it - currently 26,50$) or Signature (22$), if I cannot.

    • @WaywardPondering
      @WaywardPondering 5 років тому

      Peter M. I agree, I’d use a paper binder or rubber band if I didn’t have a wallet. Also, I love the Victorinox manager because it fits in the coin pocket of my pants. If one just scrounges and has imagination you can MacGyver an EDC cheap.

  • @Klatchan

    I love this kind of video, thanks!
    I sort of disagree that a flashlight is necessary for everyone's EDC. I rarely have a need for a light, and when I do, my smartphone's flashlight function is more than enough. I'd argue that for this kind of person, a pair of earbuds/IEMs might be more useful. For around the same price as your light, you could pick up a pair of VE Monk Plus (seriously the best earbuds I've ever used,) or Panasonic ErgoFits.
    Also, if someone only has lighter uses for a knife, one of those cheap utility knives might work. I recently picked up a Slidewinder on your recommendation, and I'm loving it so far.

    With every day pens, you definitely want to go something sturdy that's going to hold up, write on everything, and/or easily replaceable.
    If you want something long lasting, and capable of writing on anything, I would recommend a fountain pen with india ink. If you maintain it, and use it for everything, you won't have a clogging issue.
    My personal favorite EDC are Muji Gel pens. They don't skip, they're cheap, and they're very reliable. They're also thin enough to fit into normal pen loops. My partner who is left handed likes them. He also really likes Uniball Signos and Energels because they dry quick enough and don't skip when his hand is smearing the page. They're also comforable.

    I love this video! As a dad of 4, I have a hard time spending big $ on my edc. I’m a huge fan of the single AA/AAA flashlight. Mine have a tendency to disappear. So, I only buy $10-12 lights. I have a shuffle, but I switched to the Outdoor Edge Slidewinder after I watched you utility knife vid. It does everything I need on a daily basis and I don’t have to worry about sharpening it. Just switch that blade.
    Keep up the strong work!

You get a side switch pocket clip and magnetic tail cap

    I have revisited this budget video to compare to my first budget EDC with very similar picks. I would also consider this a back-up EDC. Going forward three years now I have up graded the watch to an Orient automatic. Wallet to a Chums surfshort, Key ring to a Chums silicone with pry tool. Pen remains the same Zebra F-301 compact. Knife is up graded to a Buck Bantum. Flashlight remains the same Coast G10.

    I find the acronym of WHIPKIT fascinating. From my minimalist perspective there's a few things that become redundant when talking about my average day. My phone tells the date and time just fine, so that takes care of horology. My phone has a flashlight function, so in a pinch that takes care of illumination. My phone can also take pictures, record audio/video and I can type out notes, so no need for an instrument of lighting. Lastly are tools - I have tools at work, I have tools at home, and I keep a multi-tool among a number of other items in my car, so I don't feel much need to carry a tool on my person. This brings me down to just Wallet, Keys and Phone.

    Man! The F91W-1 is a beast! True story - I had one (the strap broke after 3 years of daily carry) attached to the yoke of Aprilia RS50 when I was a teenager learning to ride a motorcycle. It was on there in ALL weathers and survived 3 crashed in 16months! Brilliant bit of kit. Agreed, there are much better watches out there, however I do like this watch. I'm so glad you made this video. It was starting to feel like your channel was going to be primarily high end gear. I appreciate the philosophy of spending good money on things you use every day, but many times the more budget options perform just as well and won't break your heart of you tend to lose things, or if you just like changing up the style of what you carry without pouring money into a glorified shopping addiction. Keep up the good work!

    Once upon a time I was looking for a good ballpoint pen for outdoor writing.... Yes, and I admit, I did go for those rather expensive space pens, and rite-in-the-rain pens. But that was a mistake. They are mostly very pricey, and I found them less comfortable to write with. But, the biggest minus was that most of them came with metallic cover. That is not a good idea, when you have to keep on writing in harsh wintery conditions, when first your papers have soaked, then frozen, and you just keep on wiping the super-cooled rain/sleek/snow off the paper to be able to reach the surface with your pen. I'll also be writing with my bare hands, or at least fingers, because the gloves, mittens would also be wet in those conditions, and destroy the paper - and it would be impossible to do such miniature writing work with any mittens or gloves, that we are required to do at work. - Finally, I found a solution! "Uni-Ball Ballpoint Power Tank Eco Blue 1.0" - Very easy to write with, pressurized tank, writes (proven) on ice, watery surfaces, in any position, etc., the price is very affordable, and the eco part comes as a bonus (they put some saw dust into the rubbery resin, that makes a very comfortable handle for writing).
    Yes, it is mostly of plastic - but those metallic ones will break as well if I happen to drop them, and some truck or pull-master drives over them. These are just much cheaper to replace. I highly recommend.

    Just putting this out there for anyone looking for an S-Biner. Do yourself a favor and get the one that can lock with the little tabs. I know it might not seem like much but take it from me its worth it. I work 40 miles from home and ended up losing my car key off my non-locking S-Biner, It took me two hours to find it so I can go home.

    Carry this for a week, and increase the next EDC Budget video by increments of $25.00 please! Continue till $100-$150 (Or a price point you think is a reasonable amount for an average guy to spend in your opinion). I'm super curious on what you would pick for those different sort of options and how they work out for each week!

    One day my dad brought home a mechanical pencil version of that Zebra pen and then I found the pen at a Dollar General and I love them both. Slim and light without smearing. And I just so happen to have that wallet but in black lol it's nice. I would like a watch though. But I don't think I would like a knife... who knows I may change my mind later.

    Honestly Gerber is eh but overall if you're okay with coughing up $20, Smith and Wesson is the way to go. Notebooks & pens wise I'll just make a water resistant book out of some plastics,cardboard and index cards (or just index cards in a sandwich bag) with some disposable bic pens

    Great idea! Best Damn; Best Damn EDC video (yet)
    Great choice of Zebra pen/pencil sets. I currently carry the item below, but have kept Zebra F-701's in every carry bag I own since they first hit the market. At $7 each, they're expensive now.
    Your slimline wallet is what few of us have, so great suggestion for the terminally fat-pocket EDC.
    PS: You missed a few good items; Mini Perman XPE-R3 LED Flashlight @ $2.07 Yes, they get hot, but they're durable, have a good clip, and 1200 Lumens really lights your way. They're probably worth $6 each, but at the $2 range I get them in 5-packs.
    For pens, believe it or not, but the JASSINS Tactical Pen is also $2.20
    Punch those in, and you have more for a slightly better watch. S-Shock Analog Digital hybrids run around $15. The Casio was good; I wore the same one you bought, before they became 'classic' (35 years ago), through Basic Training in the military. Survived push-ups in the mud (over 300, every, darned, day), but G-Shock and their sister knock-offs are a hundred times better.
    My 2-Cents: Odds are the guy who watches these videos already have dozens of knives. Your suggestion is good, but I'll stick with BudK, which is a mix of good quality and low prices (BOGO is the fried of every EDC). If you use the wish-list system there (or on Amazon too) your favorites will update you when there are sales.

    I edc a maglite solitaire and have for more than a year. It goes with me everywhere and I use it a ton. Despite the fact that it isn’t the brightest or the longest run time has held up great. Also I stole a pocket clip off of another maglite I have and that means I can clip it to my hat

    • @andrewzach1921

      Noah Chiasson I second the solitaire, it has lasted almost two years for me. I got the extra bright one from a cool Home Hardware in a small town that I work occasionally. Have worn off most of the paint off it and it keeps working. It has been in all my submitted edc's.

    I'd skip the flashlight and watch, honestly. Phone replaces both those items relatively well.
    I bought a Craftsman 10 in 1 full sized multi tool with LED lights which works well for what it costs ($18.00). Pen & Pencil: F-701 and M-701, got them on sale for verrry cheap. Keys: Find a wallet that can store them or get a simple carabiner.

    • @HellFire107
      @HellFire107 2 роки тому

      @@emochickluvzblk It's certainly inconvenient - But with a $50 budget, you would need to pick and choose what's most essential to you.
      Personally, even two years later, I'd still go with a small multitool, pen, pencil & wallet if I had only $50 figuring I could always add on to it later.
      My carry now costs over $200 total (retail) and includes a Fossil Hybrid watch, a Fenix flashlight, a Leatherman Free T2, the Zebra M-701 & F-701 pen/pencil, and a cheap wallet :)

    nope dad wears an ancient timex or carries a pocket watch, Id skip the watch and get a small multitool.tyvm btw I searched amazon and added one to my cart...lol... I prefer a carabiner to an sbiner, a real load rated one can do double or triple duty for under 50cents or you can get the lighweight ones 2/1.00. I kind of like the light except for the multilevels, thats not something I need in my pocket carry flashlight . I like decent inexpensive knives and that kershaw is a looker..all in all I'll give a double thumbs up
