@@techguyml I didn't think that at all. Black and understated. No spruiking gear. Everything in its place. An organised individual with skill and attention to detail in all parts of his life.
Love your deliberate, relaxed, spend-the-entire-day-on-a-single-image photography practice. From the off road camper vehicle. Who cares if the photos turn out well! ;) But great images!!! (And carpentry skills!)
Far too many people think that a snap with a mobile 'phone makes them a good photographer; stay by the side of the car and snap, that's it - maybe a few 'selfies' thrown in for good measure and posted too anti-social media. Oh, how wrong they are. Sir, you show what true photography is. The art form, the technical skill and, almost as importantly, a large format camera. I now use a 35mm SLR with a T/S lens due to a knee injury making carrying too much equipment less desirable than it once was. One body, one lens [sometimes a second as a just in case], a carbon fibre tripod, cable release, dark cloth and a set of filters. Pure, simple(?) and a joy to take time, to enjoy being outside spending time watching the light change.
There are other solutions, like the British Envoy Wide Angle camera, it is very light weight, with a Taylor & Hobson 25 mm lens, accepts 120 roll film, originally also sheet film. You don't need to focus, but dial in the correct F stop. This camera gives you 6 X 9 cm pictures.
Thank you for sharing these experiences with us. These photographs are brilliant, reminiscent of the art of Anselm Adams. I really appreciate the quality of the black and white pictures, which show your mastery. These are the best photographs I have seen in recent years. So, please, keep up the good work. Best wishes Rudi
you were busy on that trip Shane Moonscape Overlook is the first place I am going if Ford ever delievers the off road truck I ordered last year! Enjoy your work
Very satisfying to watch you so quietly at work, Shane, especially with such extraordinary subjects (and skies). Haven't seen that chest for 8 x 10 holders before nor, I think, the 800 mm lens. Both enviable
Hi Bernard! I actually built the film holder chest a couple of months ago. The 800mm has been with me for a decade. I hope the tripod head is working out for you.
Hello Shane, firstly your work is excellent I always look forward to seeing your UA-cam feed. That said, I have a question, the film that you choose is ILFORD FP4 Plus which is a great film do you ever use DELTA 100 PRO, and if not why? Cheers! 🥃
These were some of the best images that I have seen of your work. You don't seem to be short of expensive lenses and equipment, but atleast you put them to good use with great results. Thanks you.
@@shanedignum I can relate to that. So are my Leica, Hasselblad and Large Format lanses and cameras. I couldn't afford a new Leica these days even if I maxed out my credit card. Madness, that what I say. I am waiting for the AI to bite in, and in a couple of years all these M11s and M10 Monochroms will be like the film equipment after the first few years of digital, that they couldn't give them away. Alas, I am getting old now and theer may be no time left. Keep well.
@@RandyPollock I’ve sold prints in the past. I’m focusing more on the darkroom at the moment. Once it’s up an running, I’ll make prints available again. 👍🏼
Thanks so much for sticking with the B$W, Shane. The images are lovely. Always curious about what speed you're rating your film, what developer you're using, and how you might be adjusting development time for the different images. Thanks again.
Thank you! I have two different methods for developing B&W, I rate my film depending upon which method I plan on using. I stick with the same film and developer, FP4+ and Pyrocat HD. Yes, the pano shot was N+1, everything else was tray processed normal.
these are some really incredible images, my favorites are probably the pano close ups with the 800mm, those textures are incredible and I imagine a huge enlargement being so cool!
Really fantastic video Shane. The images of the Butte are amazing, especially the first with the touch of sunlight. ...and that A 360mm is such a kick-ass lens. I'm jealous 😂
Seriously enjoying your work, came to know about this channel after watching Ben Horne's. Although I have no idea of film photography especially large format I am enjoying watching you enjoying the process. Its all that matters to me "The process". Keep up the good work and Thank you.
That film holder chest looks to be some hand cut dovetails. Are you a furniture maker as well? Just curious as That’s what I do for a living while just recently starting my photography journey. Love your channel. Just starting the videos now.
Dude! (I know, I'm kinda old to be saying that, but…) I love the Butte. My wife and I camped there just a few weeks ago, right where you were along the rim. One of our favorite spots. That first image is tremendous, as is the 800mm. What about Long Dong Sliver? You were so close, we thought you'd go there too. Regardless, great video. Looking forward to the next one.
Haha! Dude. Thanks, Frank! We were probably there around the same time. I actually did visit Long Dong Silver, I just didn't feel like photographing it. It was fun to see in person. Thanks for following along.
Really like your minimum commentary format, very relaxing to follow along. I have a question about your telephoto, is that a convertible 600mm/800mm lens? Depending on the rear cell, I suppose? Stunning images. Since you're doing more black & white now I reckon your darkroom is nearing completion?
Hi Alfred. Yes, it's a 600/800 depending upon which rear cell is attached. The darkroom is coming along, but still a few months away from being complete. Looking forward to it!
love these videos & your choice to have the viewer join along without needing to add much dialogue.
or background music!
Thoroughly enjoyable video, and absolutely gorgeous photography. Thank you for sharing.
That G class is absolutely gorgeous!
The G-Wagon and Roof Top camper is just next level! And the photography is also sick! oh and the wooden film holder box is just next level!
Everything about that screams he’s desperate for attention lol 😂

Thank you! I'm excited to print that one.
@@shanedignum Are you wet printing or scan? Hope it turns out awesome.
@@kentmillerstudios These will be silver gelatin prints. In the videos, you're just seeing quick scans of the film.

That was a great day 1! Always wanted to visit that area. Love how the film holder box came out!
Thanks, Jay! That was my first time in the Factory Butte area. Yes, it's a game changer for film holder storage.
Factory Butte right near Gobblin State Park.

Fabulous. The quiet of the video is just right for me. A query though... Bodie?
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Not Bodie, Hanksville, Utah. I might visit Bodie soon, I've never been.
Very enjoyable to watch.
Thank you!
Beautiful shots Shane. That first shot was awesome. Very nicely done.

Thanks, Ron. The road to get out there is easy going. On my way out there I saw a Tesla and two large "Cruise America" RVs.

Very interesting films! Would you mind sharing what kind of developer you use for the black and white photos?
