Bought Ken's course about a week ago. This was exactly what I needed. Been playing for many years and can transcribe fairly well but I never really got how each note fit into which chords as the changes go by, and was always in a bit of a mystery as to how some of these players came up with the lines that they do. In the course Ken breaks down each lick to show you which chord shapes or intervals the line derives from so you can get into the mind of the improviser. This has really caused a great improvement in how I look at improvising lines and has improved my ability to solo through chord changes tremendously. It's actually pretty amazing how much more clarity this has given me, just from a few hours of his member lessons. So, it's not just teaching you licks and songs like most "lessons." He shows you why... very helpful.
I been playing 25 years and I’m still a beginner 😆. Never had a teacher or videos to help me. Simple play by ear hunting for notes. I’d give anything to go back and have at least UA-cam to help. Now I’m 38 and can’t play any better than I did 20 years ago
It’s amazing what’s available today. I taught myself guitar then bass (I played in bands for 35 years as a bass player because everyone wanted to be a guitar hero. No one wanted to play bass but, hey, I got gigs!) by looking at chord books and listening to the radio and records. I would get together with friends and work songs out. I couldn’t afford gear back then but now I can afford to have just about anything I want. I reckon I’m a better guitarist now. I could never solo, still can’t really, but I’m getting the concept. Thanks to UA-cam. I’ll sound like a 59yo grumpy bastard and say, “these kids have got it so good.” Good on them, I wish them well.
Grear video! I have a strat with .10 strings and its really hard to bend in 2nd fret for instance...is it just strengh or is there a "trick" so as not to fight as much?
No trick that I know of, but if there is I'd sure like to know about it! 10's are very hard to bend (especially the G) on the second fret, so I'm afraid that it's a matter of strength. Have you tried the DaAdario 9.5's? I played those for many years and they are much easier to bend and sound almost as fat as the 10's.
This is another guitar I build last year using USACG body & neck parts. Tommy is just awesome over there, you tell what kind of a tone your looking for and he's knows what kind of wood, the weight, and sound of the wood (by tap testing) you need. I told him I wanted an early 50's tone, and the first one sounded so good I ordered this one a few months later while ordering some Kinman Broadcaster pickups from them. I ended up putting the Kinman's in this tele, and it's been my main axe since. A couple of weeks ago I swapped out the Kinman for a Seymour Broadcaster, but I haven't decided which one I like better yet. I'm thinking the Kinman, but I need to play it on another gig or two before I know for sure. Thanks!
No, those are the regular old style steel barrels, but I have seen some compensated ones online and thought about trying them. I don't have an intonation issue, so I haven't bothered. Thanks!
Hi Sean, I will just as soon as I get finished making up the webpage for it. I have to have the video done before I can embed it in the webpage. Thanks!
I'm real sorry folks. I thought I had a link to the website on the video. But there is alway a link below all my videos that'll take you to the site as wellua-cam.com/users/redirect?countryguitarchops.com - Thanks!
Hi Michael. No, I have the Kinman Broadcaster in this guitar. They sound great for a noiseless, but you still lose that single coil sparkle. I am making my own line of pickups now, and will have them for sale soon. If your interested, sign up for my newsletter at countryguitarchops.com so you'll be notified when have them available. I used them for the latest lesson I made for Ghost Riders In The Sky. You can listen to it here. ua-cam.com/video/NgFSbFocsZg/v-deo.html Thanks!
Hi Ken, I downloaded the 14 modules :-) By the way ...Great tone !!! ...Is that a Broadcaster pickup in bridge position? ... what do you recommend for both pickups?
Hi Sean, I've had the Kinman noiseless Broadcaster set in this guitar since I built it last year, I'm really glad you asked because I just swapped the bridge with an SD Broadcaster a week ago. The Kinman sounds great, but like any other noiseless, you lose that "sparkley" airy sound, so I'm trying the SD out. I just did a gig with it a couple days ago, and I'm not sure what to think yet. While I get that sparkley high end, it kind of sounded a bit thinner than the Kinman. I need to play another gig or two with it to decide which one I like better. The neck PU SD recommends as a set sounds terribly muddy to my ears. I even pulled the cover off to see if that would brighten it up up a tad, but it didn't. so I've still got the Kinman neck PU in there. I talked to someone at Dimarzio a couple weeks ago about sending me a couple sets to try out and review, but I haven't heard back from them yet. I'd like to compare them with these.
Thank you so much Ken. I guess the other outside influence (apart from fingers) on your great tone is the amp you use ... or are you going straight to desk?? (sorry for all the questions !!)
I run the guitar through a 74 Deluxe Reverb that's been modded to blackface specs. For the studio recordings I use a compressor (sometimes overdrive) before running into the desk and add the delay and reverb from there. Thanks Sean, hope your enjoying all these lessons and learning a lot!
I just added some links to the video that takes you to the website. I'll post it below as well and you can go there to see the various pricing depending on the format you choose. But the online members section is less than $10 right now! countryguitarchops.com/product/beginner-lead-guitar-course/
If you are a songwriter, listening to other genres can only inform and maybe improve your craft. I'm a jazz/hip hop/r@b guy but I'll never say I can't learn something from a different style of music.
I'm not going to spend 6 months and thousands of dollars putting a course together and "give" it away. If you want to really learn how to play, you got to pay.

I used to hate country music until i actually started listening properly to it and realised what incredible musicians they are.

Yea if I had the resources that are available today 35 years ago I would be ten times better than I am today

Get a compressor pedal and leave it on all the time while playing might help you out. Some people can't play without one.
I'm just getting back into playing so of course I bought a Tele :-) man am I glad I came across this guy. Excellent stuff, very well done.!.
I’m ordering these DVD’s for myself on Friday. Going to finally learn how to make that Telecaster of mine to talk!!
Thanks, and enjoy all the lessons!
Man, I LOVE that "Crazy Arms"! Worth buying just to learn that! LOL Great job!!

Gotta be lovin’ those old “Melody leads”!
I don’t think I can do it, but I’ve been wrong before! I gotta try though.

@@CountryGuitarChops i will try with 09s or 09,5 then!! It should be easier! (I noticed that tuning half tone flat was also easier)
What kind of Tele is that and what type of pickups do you have installed? It looks and sounds great.
