The book by historian Vikram Sampath, Waiting for Shiva: Unearthing the Truth of Kashi’s Gyan Vapi, traces the historical, religious, archaeological, and legal arguments to bring forth the truth about the Temple - and to explain the undying significance of the campaign to reclaim Hindu places of worship. Recently, the ASI survey of the Gyanvapi premises (disputed Masjid) revealed evidence that Hindus knew existed. But why was the survey opposed? What is the significance of the Gyanvapi Masjid case? What is the historical significance of Kashi?

This information of Kashi Vishwanath Temple given by Mr.Vikram Sampat, is mind boggling. The present Ruling Dispensation Under Mr.Modi has to do a lot of thinking and come out with an exhaustive " PLANNING " so that once for all such problems are settled permanently. Could feel the pain of brahmins ( being a brahmin myself). Also i have always been saying that the brahmin men are the most deprived ones in the society. Felt the pain because i have a father, a brother, a husband, a son who face the brunt of the seculars.

Dear Sampath Ji, you have done a job for which a word of thanks is too small. It is a dream come true that you have written on the basis of itihas available.
Your saying is true that Sanatan Dharma followers in Bharat have no scholarship available to create a renaissance of the culture.
But simultaneously, it is a fact that Bharat has been invaded by the Islamic barbarians. The temples and other worship places have been vandalised. The stones of Kutubminar Masjid have been crying for years, in Delhi itself!
If the claim is of 40,000 or more/less,let us start scholarships for each location. If a small geographical area of Kashmir has/ had thousands of temples and there is record.
The Islamic terrorism which created genocide of Kashmiri Pandit in 1990, tried to misuse temples in small towns&villages, had security forces not used those as temporary residences.
I request allSanatana Dharma followers to reclaim the sites irrespective of number and time period it takes to settle. Italy has been able to do it, why not us?

While I am curious to read his work, I know that Mr. Sampath is a popular historian and not a historian who is trained in historiography and history as an academic discipline. A popular hisotrian or a pop historian is someone who is not trained in the scholarly analysis. So, I guess, one should take what he writes with a pinch of salt. Second point, History is about interpretations and peer-reviews. If he thinks he is right and factually upfront, then maybe he should engage in open debates with the left historians. Else, we will only have two parallel antagonistic versions.
My good man, whoever told you he is not a trained historian? He has a Ph.D. precisely in history. I am amazed at the supreme confidence with which people make such comments. Besides, he is a smart chap; he lets primary sources speak for themselves as much as possible. You cannot take his research with a 'pinch of salt'; nor can some events be about 'interpretations' but lend themselves only to right and wrong. Finally, his stock of eruditions is immense enough to engage in debates with others. The question is: will the left historians agree? They already blemished themselves in the Ram Janmabhoomi matter. Do they have clean hands?
My good sir, his Ph.D is in ethnomusicology and history from a school of music, so I am not sure if that is a relevant field in writing history of plunder and temple destruction, which by all means happened and no one is denying that. This field is rooted more in research mythologies and less in music. Second, smart chap he may be but I am sure my good man that you will not deny that in writing history, two historians can and often use the same primary texts in different ways, bringing their own biases, research methods and interpretations. Yes, interpretations. That brings to your third point. History is a field of interpretations and I am quite "confident" to say that. It is the very essence of this field. I mean, unless you have time machines. Fourth, from Romila Thapar to V Sampath, every historian has to be taken with a pinch of salt. Unless one has hypertension and is averse to salt. Fifth, I guess both the left and the right historians are scared to face each other to some extent. I cannot blame anyone. Personally I am a fence-sitter and I love watching the left and right fight. @@SamvedIyer

But the experience in research methodology that one gains thereby can very well be applied to other fields of history. This is quite commonplace in history. Nor is it necessary that every event of history will lend itself to subjective interpretations. Some will necessarily lend themselves to objectivity. It is an objective fact that our temples were felled. No fence-sitting can gainsay this; nor is fence-sitting an enlightened position in such a context, much as fence-sitting would be ridiculous in case of the Holocaust.
@@SamvedIyer 1, Last thing first- I still think it is a juvenile argument to compare fence-sitting on Holocaust vs fence-sitting on historical writings for a history as complex and complicated as Bharat. 2, Well I don't think research methodology of one field can be applied in other fields of history just like that. It is like expecting dentists to perform surgeries on eyes. Every field has a different methodology to follow. Perhaps that is the reason why there are different PHDs and not one PHD. If his PHD is in music maybe he should write about music and leave the temples to historians who are trained in that field. 3, Again, no one is denying the brutal destruction of temples Sir. The destruction is and shall always remain an objective fact. What is not objective is the subjectivity involved in the context it happened. One wonders was it political? Religious? Politico-Religious? Some personal despair? In other words, Mr Sampath's history makes one believes in the binary of Black and White. History is just plain old Grey!
