Just recently I realised that I haven't watched Lord of the Rings for a couple of years and almost had a panic attack... I guess it just faded? I don't know what happened, I still really love it and can spout all sorts of information about it and I have the Boromir and Lurtz figurines which are probably my two most prizes possessions but I haven't actually watched the films in a long time.
I used to come home from school and watch the extended edition and then watch one of the commentaries then the next day finish that commentary and start one of the others until I'd gotten to the end of the commentaries and then start again... but now.... I guess One Piece is my new thing XD

I once had a hyperfixation that started as quick as it ended after I learned something about it that made me feel kinda bad for liking it. I didn’t choose to stop being into it, it just happened, but I still felt so bad because that was the only source of joy in my life at that time,,, yeah

Undertale was a HUGE obsession for me back in the day, but eventually my interest kind of started to die with the fandom. When Deltarune chapter 2 comes out, though, I'm positive I will be absolutely all over it again.

Now that's a mood! I know I can rotate around my special interests, tho sometimes one sticks for a prolonged period (like Homestuck, jigsaws, crystals, books, shows/animes, blah blah blah).
If it's fantasy then I'm all over it.
I need to learn all the lore I possibly can about a show/game/movie, but then I can drop it and never touch it again for months, or even longer. It's kinda annoying, I would like to focus on one instead of all.

"we don't choose our special interest" I'm surprised people don't understand that. like I'm neurotypical (or a least i've never been officially diagnosed as anything) but i don't even get to pick what i like. Doy ou really think I'd have, as an adult watched my little pony friendship is magic for years, and even get deeply engaged in message boards specifically about the show if i got a choice in it? i knew it was silly to like a show for 5 year old girls at the age of 18.... but i loved that show and just wanted to talk with people who also enjoyed it without worrying about being called cringey.

It's not silly. If you like something - you like something.
To quote C. S. Lewis: "When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty, I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.""

I have no idea how this misconception came along because that point can apply to anything that is subjective. You don't choose the things you like and dislike, sure something can peak your interest and you can become exposed to something without having to discover it yourself, but your likes and dislikes all come down to what your brain naturally gravitates towards (no matter how unorthodox it is). You can explain why you like or dislike something till the cows come home but at the end of the day it's just what you naturally gravitate towards.

When I first found out about furries I was 5. I didn’t know people could make characters and dress as them for fun, I thought it was the coolest thing ever. But then once I turned 13 I started to hate them because I saw all the hate people were giving furries and decided to be like everyone else and be hateful. I would watch cringe compilations and laugh cause of the furries who would act cringy but never went out of my way to actually send actual hate messages to any of them. But then I decided I didn’t hate them anymore because I thought the costumes were really cool and thought it would be awesome to express your creativity in such a unique way. So then I started watching videos of people dancing and having fun in fursuits and thought it wasn’t so bad after all. And then next thing I know I’m drawing furry art and watching everything furry related. I’m making my first fursuit head and I’m very excited just to make something creative and unique to me. Unfortunately if I show anyone I will receive hate because they will assume it’s a sexual thing when it’s absolutely not. But that statement sure is correct haha

I lost a friend group when I was 11 because of a hyperfixation that had basically taken over my life. You are not alone. I am checking this comment section of this video and I can guarantee you there are people here from USA, South Korea and Europe (me) who had no idea they had autism or ASD until they became adults. Is for two reasons:
      A) school, teachers and parents had no idea autism even exists
      B) they knew what autism was but hid or censored it from their children (and hiding something is worse than just not knowing). The most common reason for B) is simply cowardice. Lack of faith or will to educate autistic child properly and just insisting of "being normal"
You are NOT alone on this, I swear it!

Ouch, that struck a chord with me.
I've known that I'm autistic for a long time. Saw the diagnosis on some papers or something all the way back around 4th grade. Didn't think much of it at the time since I had a classmate I knew who was autistic, and I thought they were cool.
      My parents never told me.
They never told me until I had an argument with my mom, all the way in 9th grade and that's when she told me.
Maybe she was crying. Maybe she wasn't. I can't remember. What is _do_ remember is that the way she talked about it clearly showed that she saw it as a bad thing. It hurt.
      I don't know how I would've felt if I didn't already know.

Christ, this hits. I’m deep in the midst of an extremely long hyperfixation and I’m deeply terrified of bringing it up around my friends, because the last time I told someone about it, I got super excited and infodump-y, and they ghosted me. So I can’t ever bring it up around anyone, no matter how much I want to, around my new friend group. They just know that I’m vaguely into it, not that it’s actively a major part of my life.

Does anyone else neurodivergent (adhd, asd, or otherwise) have a problem where you can hyperfixate on interests or have insanely intense special interests for even sometimes most of their life, but the moment you attempt to remember them (say, if someone asks you what you’re interested in, or you try to write a bio about yourself,) you forget what they are and it takes an insane amount of mental effort to conjure just basic information about them?
Invariably whenever I write something about myself I always forget at least half of the things that I’m interested in. Like, at the moment I can remember that I’m super into Epithet Erased and superhero media and neanderthals, but I’m honest to god drawing blanks on pretty much anything else. When I’m in the moment infodumping about an interest or researching it, it’s pretty easy to remember that I’m obsessed with it, but when I’m more cooled down it’s like I’ve got no object permanence for it and it ceases to exist. I legit have to keep a list of my interests and constantly update it every time I remember I’m interested in something.
Is this normal neurodivergent behavior? I’m diagnosed adhd btw

I have been diagnosed with ADHD when I was very young. Back in middle school, when anime was a topic that most people made fun of due to lack of understanding, I was really into Sword Art Online. I didn't think it was the best show of all time or anything, but I really enjoyed it at the time. Attack On Titan was released around the same time, and the extremely small group of anime lovers at school I knew would talk non-stop about it. It got to the point where they would judge me for watching/liking Sword Art Online and being told that it is a waste to watch, since Attack On Titan was "The best show of all-time". I grew to hate Attack On Titan, and I avoided anything involving it. I'm 22 now and it wasn't until recently, when my close childhood friend said that he liked Attack On Titan without judging me for what I enjoy, that I have finally began watching the show. I actually enjoy it and it's a shame that I was so turned off to it, but my God criticism makes me extremely defensive at times because it does feel like a personal attack, even when I know it isn't. It's a very strange feeling to explain, but I am sure that people can relate.

Hyperfixation is something I still do, but did a lot as a kid. My parents couldn't understand it, so much so they smashed or tore up whatever I really loved. They said it was extremely unhealthy and asked why I didn't have any friends. I just told them people are too hard to please so it's not worth it, and that worried them. This all was happening in first grade, so many emotions went down. Whenever I couldn't understand something I became overwhelmed and had a full on mental breakdown. My parents, not knowing I would be diagnosed with Autism/OCD, told me to get over it and get work done. Which made me refuse to do homework and not want to talk with them often. I was held back another year because my teacher was so concerned about me not having any friends besides not turning in homework. I would not learn to do homework correctly or make friends until I reached 7nth grade. Art was the only thing I knew how to do, I loved it. I would sit on a bench outside at recess and draw, everyday. Then came that one day someone sat next to me and asked if they could be my friend. That day, July 3rd, I made my very first friend who would soon be my best friend even till now. She picked me up and taught me how to interact, even helped me pass reading higher than most students because she found something I liked. But my mind was set on protecting someone so special, I didn't make any other real friends till years later. These videos, they speak to me, and many others, I only wish it spoke to my parents sooner.

I have ADHD, I've had a hyperfixation on Ninjago for almost three years now, and I feel a very personal connection to it. When someone insults Ninjago, I feel like they're insulting me because of how close I've gotten to it. I can easily relate to some characters (specifically Jay, considering my ADHD headcanon for him) and so I feel a connection that most others don't feel. I also recently developed a Steven Universe hyperfixation on the side. I'm scared to talk about either though, because people might insult them, even though I didn't choose them. A lot of people view Ninjago as a dumb kids' show and yes, it is, but I still love it. Ninjago and SU are HUGE parts of my life and they probably will be for a while. I can't control it, and I'm sorry if you're sick of hearing about why Harumi's better than any Disney Princess (even though she is) from me, but you're going to have to just deal with it. It's part of how my brain works and I can't change that, so all I do is ask for a bit of patience.

@@Soft_fangs but it still featured cats as the primary antagonist. The first film goes out of its way to portray cats as the ultimate evil and that they're animals that take advantage of humans. And its up to dogs to protect humanity even for families who only own cats and not dogs. Even going so far as to portray kittens as being just as nasty as full grown cats.
Then then second film has to go "hey no not all cats are mean and hate humans, we love our families too." But still show that these "good cats" are the minority among catkind, while all dogs are 100% good and always do the right thing and never do anything bad.
Western medias portray of cats is the worst. And the funny thing is in Japan its more of an even playing field of good dogs and good cats with bad dogs and bad cats. And there are lots of anime out there showing cats as tricters but also as kind and loving beings. But then you have Isle of Dogs, a western made film set in Japan. Its like the creators of the film didn't even bother to look up Japan's cat culture and just decided "they must love dogs and hate cats as much as we do". If they had made the film about cats instead of dogs it would have fit culturally more since Japan adores cats, and the fact the film is all about saving animals perceived as bad but are actually good would also fit for western audiences who still struggle to see cats as good animals.

This makes me feel so much better about my Harry Potter thing and how sensitive I got when it started recieving (very much needed and justified) crticism. I'm still not quite sure if it is an special interest or an hyperfixation, but SO MUCH of my time and energy went into that fandom for years on end. I first read the books when I was 11, and it just became a regular part of my life in many ways until I was about 16 or 17. Even now that I'm 26, I'll go back to HP fanfiction everytime I'm sad or anxious, and I'll hyperfixate again on it for a few weeks after. So, I guess it's no wonder I was so defensive when people started saying things like "please read another book". I even had a small crying fit once when my gf argued about how we couldn't really separate the art from the artist and how the story wasn't even good anyways. I knew it seemed absurd, but it felt so personal to me at the moment. I do think she had very valid points and I´m glad that building criticism of my own is now part of my interaction with it, but it does feel good understanding it was not dumb or absurd that it felt personal. I invested so much of me in it, of course it did.

As someone who was diagnosed with ADHD only a couple years ago, most of my behaviors have begun to make sense to me. I've had many hyperfixations throughout my life and they have almost always taken over my daily life. I started listening to kpop back in March 2016, and it has been a huge hyperfixation since. Since I'm so passionate about it, I tend to ramble on and on about it to my family or friends even if I know they don't like it. I often tell myself that I will stop bugging them about it because I know they get annoyed by me talking about it all the time, but I don't catch myself doing it until they either tell me that they don't care or until I'm about 20 minutes into talking about it.
Even though I know they don't like kpop and that everyone has different interests, I always feel so hurt when they tell me they don't care or that they don't like it. It feels like I've been stabbed in the heart because I am sharing with them something that I deeply care about and they don't seem interested or they get mad at me. And I completely understand that they don't like it and I shouldn't force them to listen to it or force them to listen to me talking about it but it's so hard, especially when you don't have anyone that cares about it to talk about it with. This is also the same with any of my other hyperfixations that I have. It's just so hard to hear someone that you care about insult something that you deeply care about and spend most of your time thinking about, especially if said hyperfixation has helped me through periods of depression and anxiety. It also doesn't help when I'm so invested in something that it makes it nearly impossible to focus on my schoolwork, which is already a tough thing for me to do, and to have my mom yell at me for not getting it done even though I desparately want to get it done, I just can't.
I could go on and on and I'm kind of going on a tangent about my whole experience, I just really appreciate this video because it has helped me understand myself more, because I have always gotten angry at myself for things I can't necessarily control.

Many of my special interests included the fantasy genre, animal-related toylines, royalty, and mythology, though my biggest special interest had been Queen Elizabeth II for just about six years. I would spend hours reading things about her (thanks to that I pretty much have encyclopedic knowledge about her) and get excited about any events she’d attend or appearances of her until her eventual death. I also sent letters to her with my art included and even got some replies from the Palace.
I even went to London last year for the Platinum Jubilee. I really, really wanted to see her but my mom didn’t allow me to get close to the Palace whenever she did make appearances.
However, I did get teased for it in school, and thanks to some hysteria that spread recently, had also gotten harassed online for having that interest because too many people were listening in to the hysteria-fueled rumors about her. Especially with all the rude jokes that spread across social media ever since she passed away (it gave me so much discomfort seeing all that). Because of that I often don’t like opening up to people about my special interest of the late Queen in fear of them getting mad over it and talking trash about her and towards me for having that special interest.
The stories I’ve been writing pretty much combine my special interests into one universe: a fictionalized version of the Queen is in them, it features characters inspired by mythological creatures, the setting is fantasy, I even made an AU out of Adventures in Pocketville (another special interest of mine), etc.

I wish more people would understand that a lot of neurodivergent people can’t control the media that they hyperfixate on. Maybe some of them can, but I personally have never been able to. I’m autistic, and although I don’t think I have any super problematic special interests, I have had a lot that are considered “cringe” in the past, and I got bullied for it. I’ve tried to stop myself from forming a special interest on certain things in the past, but it’s never worked. I had a short term special interest on the cartoon “Villainous” for about a year and a half, and my first ever exposure to it was a tumblr post calling one of the main characters “the new Onceler” and saying that the show as a whole was cringy. I tried to force myself to not watch it after taking an interest in it, but it just made me morbidly curious, and I ended up watching it all anyways. It can also be terrible to develop a special interest on a piece of media that has a terrible fandom. Danganronpa is one of my biggest special interests right now, but the fandom is filled with in-fighting and drama, but I’m so intensely fixated on it that I feel like I can’t leave the fandom. Even though engaging with the fandom stresses me out a lot, it would cause me a lot more distress to disengage from such a reliable source of comfort, so I’m basically stuck here. It feels like my brain is a roulette wheel that forces me to get fixated on things at complete random, and I’m just subject to the whims of my inexplicable interests. One of my most recent special interests is... communism. LITERALLY COMMUNISM. It’s so hard for me to talk about it with people, because it’s a subject that makes a lot of folks uncomfortable. I often end up accidentally sparking political arguments, when all I wanted to do was infodump about a subject that I’m passionate about. My special interests bring me a lot of joy, but dealing with them can also be a nightmare sometimes.

    • @FloweryOnCrack
      @FloweryOnCrack 3 роки тому +3

Ugh- same hate, down to the exact same fucking fandom. I never liked drama when it comes to fandoms, since it’s usually incredibly petty and kinda silly, but somehow I end up in fandoms with a lot of drama. The Steven Universe fandom, then MHA, and now it seems to transition between a lot of different things. I’m actually betting on which ones gonna end up keeping all my interest for the next year now, since I got into Demon Slayer for a few months- then ATLA made a comeback, and now my friends Danganronpa recommendations finally paid off. My bets on Danganronpa tbh, since it fits basically every demographic for what I like.
Y’know, massive cast of well written, interesting characters- a sizeable amount of fanfic and material online for it, and a lot of angst and shipping potential. The only thing is, I never liked how I get obsessed with certain things. It always feels…immature and kinda childish, and occasionally annoying, no matter how much enjoyment my interests being.
Anyway, I’m almost positive I’m going to end up indoctrinated- and considering the state of the fandom, I worry. Even MHA seems better then whatever’s going on with Danganronpa. But, woe is me- I’m going to end up falling down the pit anyway.
I’m halfway between just giving up and submitting, but also knowing I’m pretty stubborn as well, so I know I won’t give up easily. Even with the headaches trying to resist is causing, since resisting typically makes it worse. But if I don’t resist, I’ll end up obsessing over whatever my new infatuation happens to be needlessly for months, and most likely not climb back out till my brain gets tired of it. I don’t want to end up with a fucking shrine in my bedroom.
Anyway, sorry for ranting. It’s just been bothering me for a bit, and you’re post reminded me- well, not reminded, because I was watching this video due to it- but you kinda left the perfect comment for me to respond to.
P.S- Communism is pretty cool, not gonna lie. Though that might just be me and how much I love history.

EXACTLY, most of if not all of my hyperfixations and special interests are deemed “cringe”, and if not the subject itself, then my passion for them certainly will be. I had a Warrior Cats special interest for five whole years when I was a kid, and I was constantly bullied for it being “cringe” and acting “weird” bc I was a little 10 y/o kid who just wanted to roleplay some funky little cats with her friends on the playground. My current special interest is something my mom would be extremely disapproving of, so I hide it from her in fear of being ridiculed. My current special interest also made one of my ex-“friends” get mad at me bc I talked about it too much, “put it on a pedestal”, and told me - this is an _exact quote_ - “get other special interests to go along with it” so I would talk about other things. THAT’S NOT HOW IT FUCKING WORKS????

Currently mine is Animal Crossing, which is actually a "frequent flyer", it's a series I've loved since I was very little. Sometimes I just don't have one. Thank you for making this video. I don't know how coherent this will come out, but I wanted to try and emphasize why I appreciate you posting this particular video and the way you explain things so well. I'm on the spectrum as well, and for me, I have a very tumultuous relationship with my sense of self due to PTSD and growing up in an allistic household that actively worked against me getting a ASD diagnosis (and thus the help and support I AND my parent needed) due to a lot of fear mongering and misinformation due to being raised by my grandmother, who had a background in nursing and was witness to even just a surface level of the horrors, stigma, and treatment of mentally disabled persons from as early as the 40s when she was born. She meant well, but as a result of her lack of education and constant misguided efforts, the coping mechanisms I developed have slowly been EXTREMELY destructive, most notably ON my special interest as a mixture of being ripped away from it and scolded for doing it constantly, yet also affirmed positively when done well. There's a lot more but it's getting hazy to describe- but anyway, your video and videos like this help remind me the fuller extent of my behaviors, instead of having them overnormalized and invalidated by allistic people who don't grasp the severity both for better and for worse. Listening to this has just been a big help in refocusing on what my tendencies are and how best to help me from a pro-autistic perspective instead of an ableist and disorienting, misattributing one.. I feel like that sentence didn't make sense but I'm trying, I hope you get what I mean. Your content helps, it';s really important, even for other folks on the spectrum, especially those of us dealing with a traumatic upbringing seeking to repair themselves and find their niche within their skills instead of forcing us into roles that actively harm us. Thank you ♥

This video was so relatable to me. I’ve had many special interests over the years, mostly animated films. In fact, sharing news about these films on Tumblr is what made me change my career path to preschool/kindergarten teacher to entertainment journalist.
My most recent special interest is Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. I started to like it whenever I would get previews for it on the movies I saw in theaters. It looked good, but was mainly interested in Goldilocks because I wanted to cosplay her. Then, when my brother came over for Christmas, he suggested we see the movie together. I was nervous at first, since I was interested in seeing it too and am nervous about sharing my interests with people who are not my twin sister, and thought it would be embarrassing, but it was worth seeing it with him, since we had a discussion about the pre-credits scene when we got out. I have seen the movie 6 times in theaters, which my parents find crazy, but it’s an obvious sign of my special interest for the movie, and with each viewing, it has gotten better, and became my favorite film of all time, dethroning Pixar’s Soul. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish one of the few films that I never get tired of with repeat viewings. I also got almost emotionally devastated when it lost the Oscar to Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio, but for some reason, I knew my love for Puss was stronger than anything else, especially when I enjoyed seeing the movie in theaters for a sixth time yesterday.
While some parts that I love about Puss have changed (I love Perrito and Ethical Bug instead of Goldilocks, for instance), I still think it’s my favorite movie of all time.
As for the tips, the imagining characters solving problems reminded me of something I did recently: it’s hard for me to not focus on negative thoughts at work at the movie theater, and recently, I’ve been imagining having Ethical Bug from the movie on my shoulder, talking to me about not thinking about fictional things being the reason for people wanting healthier choices, and telling me to be more social with people.

I also have ASD and I was diagnosed when I was 1 1/2 years old and will be turning 25 in a week, so your previous video about representation of autism in the media was really informative and I appreciated seeing your analysis on the subject. It's also great to hear another female like myself who has the same disability as me and know what your experience has been like. My special interests have expanded and changed over the years. When I was 9, the first Madagascar film came out and I was so focused on the film and my special interest in the Madagascar films continued when the second film came out. That special interest lasted for over three years during my preteen years. I don't really have a special interest in Madagascar anymore though I am still a fan of the first two films and don't love them as much as I used to as a kid.
I revisited The Lion King during that same year when I was 12 and fell in love with it and became hyperfixed on The Lion King films (mainly the first and second film) for years and the first film has been my favorite film of all time for over 13 years. I still have occasional binges of my special interest in The Lion King from time to time and it still is my favorite film, but the hyperfixation on the series hasn't been as prevalent as much as it was when I was in middle and high school. My primary special interest right now has been Pixar. I've been a big fan of the studio since I saw Toy Story and A Bug's Life during the late 90s as a toddler and would rewatch my VHS tape of A Bug's Life numerous times. Currently, Pixar as a whole has been the focus such as reading and watching videos about The Pixar Theory, rewatching the shorts, talking about Pixar films with one of my friends, and stay on top of current updates on upcoming content from Pixar. My younger cousin even got me Funko Pops of Ian and Barley Lightfoot from Onward and love displaying them on my book shelf by my fantasy section (the Harry Potter and Percy Jackson series). I love animation more than live-action and can talk for hours about animated films and shows. ❤️

This whole video is sending me down a trip remembering all of my own special interests that i have completely dropped. I once went on a 3 week vacation to spain and we downloaded a *few * movies to last us the trip, and one of those movies was Rio. Needless to say i spent entire days watching that one movie multiple times, completely obsessing over birds and rainforest animals. I watched the movie 21 times over a period of 3 weeks before dropping it like a brick and becoming obsessed with my little pony for 2 years.

Thank you for this, I really felt a lot of this. I've had a life-long interest in Hansel and Gretel since I was 8 years old (I'm 25 now), and it's SUCH a comforting thing to me. It's a very formulaic story, it's easy to remember each story beat so even though there are parts of it that make me uncomfortable, it's easy for me to be prepared for the parts that are, and I'll always be happy knowing that things turn out alright in the end. I also really relate to the siblings for a lot a lot a LOT of reasons and so it really super interests me to analyze the potential psychological aspects Hansel and Gretel might wind up having after their experiences, and then having to go and live with their parents again knowing they left them to die... its so tasty and tragic and fun to think on. And yeah, I am sort of turning my interest into a career, I'm currently writing a story about an AU where Gretel couldn't free Hansel from his cage because their captor had the key around her neck when Gretel pushed her into the oven, and she had to run and leave him while the house burned down, and she ran and was too afraid to turn back. He wound up surviving, but the two grew up after that completely separated, Gretel entirely believing she had accidentally killed her brother, being extremely messed up from it all. Hansel was eventually found near-death by a curious patrol who then took him and got him patched up, believing him to be the son of a nobleman (he was too fat to be a peasant). No one claimed him as their son though so he grew up in the barracks and trained as a knight. That's all I have so far but I'm super excited to start getting things out about it, I'm currently working on a short animated video for my AU, and hopefully it will help kick things off for me!

i know this probably won’t be seen but as someone who was hyperfixated on voltron for a lot of my high school year i cannot stress how much you can’t choose your special interest. Voltrons fandom had extreme negative effects on my mental health and to this day i have to block it on social media because of the extreme anxiety it brings. My interest almost became a major trigger for me and it sucks. My interest rn is dsmp and i almost went through the same thing because of all the discourse until i deleted twitter. It’s not just being into something it’s something that can majorly effect how you live. also the lack of a fixation is something you didn’t touch on but honestly when i don’t have something to focus on i fall into extreme depressive episodes until i find something else to fill the void. A lack of fixation actually limits my ability
to focus on anything more than having one does. but that’s just me and i’m not all autistic people so this is just my own negative experiences with fixations (i’ve had plenty of good experiences tho s/o to moomin, the hobbit, care bears, etc)

I'm ADHD, and for me, hyper-focusing/hyper fixating on something is kind of a habit for me (It is a good habit though because it keeps me from negative thoughts.). I'm constantly focused on something I really like, which makes it hard to do homework. My special interest at the moment is warriors cats, my own ocs and world, pokemon, Mlp, ooak dolls, Lps and wings of fire. I just can't get any of those off my mind.

The line about "Not choosing our special interest" is something I can definitely appreciate being said. If i could choose my special interests, I certainly wouldn't choose ARGs and true crime considering how it's gets incredibly hard to find new content to consume for the both of those topics once you finish learning about the popular ones. Oh boy I wish I wasn't as into minecraft beta content as I am because I feel like the only one who appreciates the concept of the Overworld Red Dragon, Loot Crate April Fools, Apple April Fools, The odd anime styled characters: Beast boy, rana, steve, and black steve (that's literately what he was called).

Thank you for being vulnerable and talking about your hyperfixation on Cats to the point of bringing your cat to your school. It's really tough when you have to learn how to mask to be part of the status quo, and finding others that can relate only after dampening yourself is a life changer. I hope that as time moves on, those who need emotional support animals or items can become valid in everyday life, without any stigma attached.

I consider myself undiagnosed adhd and I just have to say this video was very validating. It helped me look back on past hyper fixations I've had and connect the dots. I didn't realize a lot of my symptoms until my late teens/ early twenties so it was nice to have this video as inspiration to think back to my developmental years. Thank you

I have about one hyper fixation each month. I latch onto it and obsess over it like crazy. Sometimes I try to hold on to that feeling. Eventually, something will come along and I will be exposed to a new media- a film, character, or tv show. Either I ditch the other interest, or I now have two, doubling my obsession. It turns into my personality and I often mimic the quirks or language of the media I absorbed. Other times it is an idea, and I daydream about them for months or years.
This video really helped me, so thank you. My family is often overwhelmed with my endless ranting. Answering texts is also an issue for me. I made a lot of friends, but the only friends I have kept for the years are the ones that are also neutrodivergent and "passionate" over topics.

I literally have to look at the same 20 fanarts from my special interest everyday because the fandom is deeeeeead. With no fandom, I just made them intrinsically linked to my inner world story and now the characters are one of the only things I can draw/ think about. Hahaha, lmao.

29:58 this one hits me so hard personally, there's been many times in my life when I just shut myself up or not talk about what it is I'm interested in due to fear of being annoying. This hit even harder when I was a teenager in highschool when kids started to care about "other stuff" while I was still all about Video Games, much teenagers don't want to talk about that stuff at a certain age

One time I got hyper focused on loading the dishwasher and unloaded and reloaded it for 5 hours straight without ever running it, going pee, or walking away. Try to tell me that’s normal, neurotypicals.
