  • Texas had a brief flirt with nationhood back in the 19th century, and ever since have been a distinct culture inside the US. What if Texas remained independent and never joined the United States? Here is a few scenarios.

Our grid is completely separate from the US grid, and we have so many guns every citizen alone could probably supply 1-10 soldiers. The immense pride and faith in this state, is unparalleled and the blood shed that would result from an invasion or crack down of this state is unfathomable. EDIT: Not to mention we have one of the most active ports in the US.

      that and there is many geopolitical hints that even if the U.S is hostile to a Texan Republic after leaving peacefully the Russian Federation would support Texas

    Now I have lived in Texas my whole life and we have Texas history classes for full school years, 1 in 1st grade, 1 in 4th grade, and one in 7th grade, so I know very well that we would not have survived alone, but just for fun, here's a scenario where we did:
    So after we won the Texas Revolution, we begin to boost our economy by adding more farms and cattle ranches and a few textile factories in Austin and San Antonio for more jobs. We begin to raise taxes to pay off the debt and through lots of trade in Galveston with European Nations we begin to slowly, but surely get the debt paid off. After the debt is payed off we have already declined annexation by the U.S. and begin to build up our military and soon declare war on Mexico. We succeed in taking our little country to the Pacific Ocean and soon later we discover oil. With this, we have loads of money and are able to become a fairly powerful nation in between the U.S. and Mexico. Eventually we abolish slavery and become a happy little Texas democracy. The end.

  • @tumbleweed1552
    @tumbleweed1552 7 років тому +393

    Alright let's think: Independent Texas needs aid. So it needs to appeal to a country that isn't the US. It appeals to a colonial empire, let's say Britain for the sake of choosing a nation. In exchange for foreign troops and epuipment Texas offers the only thing it has, which it doesn't even have: land. By going into a territorial war, it pays off it's war debt with Californian acres.
    So we have 4 countries with land in the US: Russia, Texas, the US, and GB. Then the civil war occurs. For the sake of capitalism, Texas aids the South (or the southeast, rather), and gets a huge bonus check shipping goods across the Texan-Confederate border. Rather than being strangled by the Union, the Confederates are decently supplied. This turns the tide.
    "Enlightened Warfare" becomes a bloody meat grinder. The civil war ends in an armistice. Now we have 5 countries.
    New York, also benefitting heavily from trading with both sides, also secedes. 6...
    Rather than being one massive powerhouse, the US is now New Europe. Mexico and Texas will probably butt heads again, but this time the Texans get their hands on some sweet hand-me-downs from the civil war,,as well as some money to play with. Here, either Texas or Mexico will come out on top, with Texas trying to get as much land as possible to put itself on a reliant footing.
    The gold rush sees a huge boom in immigration. Britian and Texas alike are shitting themselves. Silicon Valley is discovered. Texas, Two-Three times its size now, is rolling in the natural resources. It becomes a serious competitor to even the Northern States.
    OIL!
    MORE OIL!
    SO MUCH F***ING OIL!
    At this point Texan Imperialism in the Caribbean might be feasible. It had a massive immigration wave from the gold rush, so manpower isn't an issue anymore. Rather than the Spanish American war, we have the Spanish-Texan war. This either ends with Texas getting dat land or texas backing off to a variety of reasons.
    Alaska, what about Alaska? Texas, on impulse, buys the second Louisiana purchase (which is really what it was) rather than the US, because Texas has closer borders to Russia, its owners. More wealth for Texas. Esentially going from zero to hero, Texas becomes bigger than the North and South.
    Germany contends for world power. The Zimmerman telegraph goes to Texas rather than Mexico, maybe even the Confederacy. Texas, nationalist as f*** due to its unparalleled success, chooses sides, and decides the First World War.
    A: it will honor its close friendship with England and aid them
    B: it will take a good long look at the resources that it gave away for basically nothing when California was still not fully explored.
    A occurs, it actually is the war to end all wars. Good guy Texas essentially does what America did in WWI, a lot more aggressively. The treaty of Versailles occurs the same way, and essentially we kind of get back on track with regular history. WWII occurs, with the 3 americas doing their own things. Then the Cold War, with all of her armed conflicts we know and love today occuring.
    B. A lot more fun happens. Germany wins! The assholes in Germany never take power. The holocaust never happens. Texas pretty much gets all of America, overshadowing the East coast and feasibly absorbing it. Hell, it may even take pieces of Canada, presumably East of Alaska. It probably invests in or walks into and takes the Panama Canal, capturing all of the independent sh---holes we call countries in Central America.
    Japan also gets a piece of the action, as Russia will be weakened by the Revolution.
    Europe is united, Japan satisfies it's need for land and resources, and the Lone Star State becomes the 75 United States of America.
    From division actually comes unity through aggression. The world has much fewer countries. Countries like Haiti aren't. Expansionism becomes practice, not debated concept. Rather than 2 major world powers, we have 3, possibly 4: The UST, the USE, The Japanese Empire, and, presuming it didn't get wiped by Germany, the strong but wounded USSR.
    Can't really think of anything feasible at this point, because I am going after feasibility here. What would happen between 3 world powers that are stronger than any known country today that are clearly allies (I'm pretty sure Russia is just screwed, no chance in hell that it will exist long under communism between 2 Imperialist nations)?
    A border dispute takes place, and two allies go to war, dragging the other one way or the other? The nuclear bombs are used in a combat zone?
    The most likely event would be an even more complex Cold War, followed by either peace or total nuclear annihilation.

    • @mitjed
      @mitjed 8 років тому +14

      +BeFlight Then it will be considered that the the Roman empire never fell. The Byzantines would have the territory of all of the Ottoman Empire. They will not consider themselves as Byzantines anyway, they will consider themselves as Romans. Ottomans should be decimated in that alternate timeline for Byzantines to still become an Empire. The only reason why their empire fell is because they were far left behind in terms of Military technology, so in that timeline, their Military would have been so advance that they reclaimed their former territories and even conquer territories as far as Spain. But I doubt they can reclaim their Roman capital "Rome" as it is much harder to fight Western kingdoms, the war of the 4th century will still not be over, they still will consider the West as the Barbarians who conquered their Territories.

    If I was Texas I would take Jaimaca, Cuba, and Haiti, Cayman Islands, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, and the Dominican Republic. (due to the Yucatan peninsula being a province/territory of Texas) *you would have _FULL_ control of the Caribbean, the only countries that would have a possibility to invade Texas for full control of the Caribbean is the US. I don't think Mexico would have the power to invade because they barely have a military.
    Texas wanted to be a massive military giant like the US and wanted a massive land force, they wanted mass production of military vehicles. I say BY the time WWII would start they would at least have half the military power, (possibly over or below) of the US. Fleet carriers, escort carriers, battleships, Heavy Cruisers, Light Cruisers, destroyers would be mass produced including the air force and ground force military vehicles
    If the United States sold the I-400 submarine to RoT I would copy the design and make my own class of future Aircraft Carrier Submarines (russia is proposing a design like it, look it up, its pretty dank)

      Texas taking the Great Antilles and the Bahamas is an interesting idea, but then they would have had to fight both Britain and Spain at once. Anyway, I doubt if they wanted a huge population of darker and often Spanish speaking people in their country. Grant couldn't convince the US to annex the D.R. for just those racist reasons.

      @@anthonyeverhart4097 Um. Your narrative is a little off. President Davis was not killed. He died at home of old age a couple decades later. Nor is there any evidence he was planning on going to Mexico. He was caught in Georgia, probably on his way to Texas. There are rumors of a missing Confederate treasury, but they are just that: rumors. However, your basic idea is plausible. Mexico was indeed sympathetic to the Confederacy and was in fact one of the few countries in the world to recognize it diplomatically. Southern cotton was shipped south to Mexico for export in order to avoid the Union blockade.

And West Texas is basically all desert, basins, mountains, and dry plains, so of course it ain't gonna be the prettiest thing in the world, and the Dallas area is not as horrible as you make it out to be. I think you can go right outside and drive a little bit and see things uglier than most things you saw here. They're awesome! Do you just prefer the barren landscapes of sand? I like the brush, and Texas isn't the only state with that "ugly" sage, we do border New Mexico, and they don't have as much, but they still have plenty. I'll have disagree with you. Without the Mexican American war, Mexico might not fall into their own civil war which led to both sides being in debt to Europe which led to France invading Mexico in our world. The Mexican army might be in a stronger position without the Mexican American war and if France did side with the Confederates, Britain would have most likely sided with the Union (for a number of reasons: alternative source of cotton, Canada, not wanting France to gain influence, etc) turning the US civil war into a proxy war. Also France would eventually have to deal with Prussia like in our timeline and they couldn't hold on to a severely weakend Mexico also at the same time.

      +Cesar Perez You should ask the Great Powers of 1820s.
      Or read a bit of history.
      The ottoman empire fell the same way every empire falls.
      DECADENCE!. Corruption, high taxation on subjugated people, interior revolutions and so on.
      So, the only way would be for it to be reformed into a modern state, that actually did happen, and this is what we today call Turkey.

      +Aleks Gorlik Today most of the chirsitans think turks did a genocide against other nations in ww1, well thats a big lie, turks only fight agains other invader groups to save their land.
      In ww1 ottoman empire join germans and they lose the war. France ,italy ,britain and many other ww1 winners invade the ottoman lands.
      There was a many nations living under the ottoman empire like armenians,greeks ,kurs and others, wants independence so they claim ottoman lands for their new independent states, they do that with violance against local turkish people, so turks do a armed resistance in anatolia against big invaders and these groups.Here you can read the full story en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_War_of_Independence today christian nations call these wars a genocide, maked by turks, this is just a propoganda, but you are right about those discriminating tax laws.

      Huh? Ireland North is British. They don't think of themselves as Irish Catholics. And the Republic certainly doesn't want the British-minded brought in kicking & screaming. One island, one Ireland only works when all Irish are agreed. There's more hope for a united Palestine than a united Ireland. Sad, really.

    • @auberonsgem1780
      @auberonsgem1780 5 років тому

      There’s a lot more to the Northern Irish Conflict. There are two distinct ethnic groups, one of whom abhors the thought of being Annexed by the ROI. To force Ulster into a Union with Ireland would simply cause the troubles, except in reverse.
      Frankly, I believe in breaking up large countries as much as possible for the sake of liberty. And to that point, I think a decentralised and Independent Ulster may be the best solution.

      Jarrellm10 I don't think that the culture would change in a lot of places considering if we were to secede we wouldn't have a good border set up for the current state lines considering there are not that many natural boundaries but I would think it would be fairly easy to move from the US and texas

      I always thought america was suposed to be more like the free city states of ancient grecce, all sharing languaje, some culture and trade, but everyone would tend to their own politics and stuff, having the firsts amendments as a base for it. All of then would grow and colonize regions of north and west and be on constant war amongt them after certain time.

      Carter Mabe New York would be destroyed, Texas would last a while, alaska becomes absorbed by either canada or russia, California would go down first, and The economic structure of Mississippi, would clasp within a year. Maine would be fine for about 4-5 years, Hawaii would be called the "Kingdom of Hawaii".
      that would be the major parts of the "succession of all states" theory.
