Those freshmen kids who claim they know lots of programming later will realize computer science is not just programming lol. So don't feel bad if you don't know any languages, college is here to teach you from scratch.

Thanks for creating a list of things to prepare for without regurgitating what other people on youtube (who haven't been in school forever) say!

hey! I'm currently 17, and in high school as a senior. I actually did coding since I was 12-13 and it really brought me a spark. I got into roblox coding, and html/css/java but then I quit and I regret it. I'm planning to go back but AI seems to be taking over with programming and code. I don't really know if I should major in CS. I have experience with computers and all the softwares. I'm just looking for some advice and tips on what I can do.

i’d say try out some intro coursework, read online curriculums, try out a project - see if u enjoy it. Also learn how to USE AI, rather than being worried about it replacing u.

Would you say it's fine going into CS with little to no programming experience? I'm a junior in high school and have been dabbling with this Python course right now.

u can go in with no experience at all! i’ve had plenty of ppl who switched into the degree later and had great success!

How about don’t do it? 2 years of general education. Ridiculous. On top of that they don’t teach you how to code, they tell you the degree is the ‘science of computers’ yet grade you on coding. They can’t tell you the answer, why not. Do you want me to learn or grade me like an exam. Can’t share work? Why not? 99% of programming is a team effort. These mfs have you whiteboard to death but don’t show you the nuances of why the code doesn’t work. I don’t need a whiteboard for a for loop. Listen when I dropped out I taught myself and became an engineer. My peers who finished the degree were far behind in terms of knowledge and career and I took multiple year break. CS is nonsense. If you want to be a programmer then teach yourself because you’re going to have to do it during and after the degree anyway! If parents aren’t forcing you to go to college then teach yourself!!!!’ College is useless.

College does have a lot of fluff, if you only want to code you can find alternate paths. If you want to navigate the entirety of what computer science offers and have marketable skills applicable to most of those branches you do need the deeper and broader knowledge base covering those areas, grading is done on coding since it's a part of computer science naturally but I wish they did longer classes that focused on team based coding projects and less of the "fluff." College is only truly useless if you attend for the wrong reasons or don't make ample use of resources there, partially useless I would typically always agree with in some capacity.

i agree with you on some part of it but the main objective during college is to network and connect with other people which helps you to increase your chances of getting internships or job opportunities
