Renee, great to catch-up with your story, as I've had about 9 months away from social media. Was so surprised to see you'd moved already when I re-engaged. Looking forward to the marvellous journey unfolding for you (and us) all! Best wishes
Originally, we thought we'd move in 5 years after starting the discussion with my parents the spring of 2021 but once my Dad got started building my parents' new house there was no slowing down the train. We're really happy to be here. And welcome back to social media!
Renee, I have been following your family's journey since you were blogging about homeschooling and homemaking. I find it very interesting that in this video you said it is hard for you to share about your life and family because over the decade + of reading and listening to your life I have felt that you share a lot about your life and family. That you bravely put yourself out there. I understand that what you have shared in the past is only a sliver of life, but life it still has been. Thank you for sharing this next part of the journey with us.
Thanks for watching. I find it hard to share things on video. Writing the same words/ideas is easier than videoing myself saying them/talking about them. I feel like I can "hide" behind words, especially by carefully crafting them. In video I feel more vulnerable and less able to craft the right words that make me less vulnerable. Also, I want to share so much about my own experience and process, my own story, but all my precious loved ones are deeply implicated in that telling. It's a hard line to walk. Thanks again for saying hi!
I too have been following you for a long time. Since the Appalachian trail goes right by my house in PA I became really invested in your story. I also felt your emotions when you moved to the little apt in Montreal and wanted to plant a gardening in the back but money was so tight. So I think too you have been very vulnerable. I am loving all the beautiful video! I will be living vicariously through you in Nova Scotia. I'm thrilled you will be there for your parents. That a beautiful gift to them!
Change is good. My husband and I have always grown leaps and bounds every time we made a move. Life is meant to experience different things. You will also have no regrets being close and helping your parents. Came back to Vancouver from the East Coast to help my elderly Mom for 8 years till she passed away at 92. Best years of my life. I cherish the memories of having spent time together. I miss her every day. We are also getting ready to move to Nova Scotia! Once we sell our house here on Vancouver Island that is. The market is very slow here, so we may be here a while. We are excited about the future possibilities. Fun to dream and plan ahead. Wishing you and your husband lots of new and fun adventures ahead! Keep the videos coming.
Thank you so much for this! I love hearing about other people's experiences of shared life with their parents during the old age years. Your words are encouraging to me. My husband and I have grown immensely in all our moves. And I am so excited about sharing these years with my parents, which I think will be our best years together, as friends and neighbors. We have years of relationship and shared familial history to draw from and to feed the convivial life we all want with each other. Good luck with your move to NS. thanks again for commenting
It's called $1.7T in outstanding school debt. For many Americans they carry school debt that amounts to nearly an addiitonal mortgage for decades after they graduate from school.
Thanks for help answering that question. The way people send kids around the continent to go to school is by acquiring debt. (Or by having good paying jobs and saving for years in advance, which seems inaccessible to most people.) We wanted to minimize the need for undergraduate debt as much as possible.
