My wife and I went to Nova Scotia for our honeymoon, spent 2 days in Halifax. What a beautiful city. That was in '84. We're thinking about going back next year, for our 40 anniversary.
I get such a kick out of seeing what other people find interesting about my local area; glad you guys had a good time! Fun added factiods: the Citadel cannon has fired every day since 1857 AND for the three months of our initial Covid lockdown. Those were very peaceful months lol. Also, while it's no longer being updated, the Citadel cannon used to have its own Twitter account, whereon every day it would tweet "boom".
Another fun video!! It was so interesting that you mentioned that Halifax reminds you of a small Boston. After the Halifax explosion, the city of Boston was the first to send first aid (Red Cross) and disaster relief to Halifax. As a thank you, every year Nova Scotia sends a huge Christmas Tree to Boston where it is displayed/lit on Boston Common. Last year the tree was donated by a family who lives in the community of Christmas Island on Cape Breton Island.
Man, are you guys having fun! We realize that a lot of work goes into your videos, and it's all worth it. Your enthusiasm spreads joy to everyone who views them. Carry on knowing that us viewers look forward to your weekly offerings.
Glad you liked Halifax! I’ve been there several times in recent years when my son was attending Dal University. The maritime museum has a permanent Titanic display - recovered artifacts from the sinking including deck chairs etc. Very cool. Recovered bodies from the Titanic were transported to Halifax. I visited the cemetery where some of the Titanic dead were buried in a separate section of the cemetery. So much history in Halifax. Keep up the great work guys!
I ran into the two of you on the waterfront! I was in a rush but was super excited to meet you both, thanks for the quick chat. It was such a surprise and I wasn’t prepared enough to mention all of my favourite profiles of places you have done, keep up the good work! Also, I was very impressed with how you spent your day in Halifax, you were next to perfect in all of the places you went 👍
I'm a born and bred Canadian, and I'm going to Halifax at the end of July for 4 days, for a solo getaway. I can't wait. My days are packed with things to do. I went to St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, at the end of August, 2023, and that was a very neat, and very old shipping and fishing community.
I was born there, but my Naval Officer dad passed away when I was 7 months old (1961). We (mom, my 2 big brothers and I) moved to Burlington Ontario and lived with mom's parents till 67, then on to Ottawa where I met and married my military husband. In 2016 hubby and I vacationed in Lunenburg and visited Halifax on the way back home, but no stopping as it was pouring rain. This summer we're going on a Boston to Montreal cruise, Halifax and Sydney being ports we plan to explore ourselves. We knew in Prescott Ontario that it was noon in the summer because Fort Wellington did the same with the cannons. That's where my dad's parents lived.
It's so cool to see you guys roaming around our home city! Wish we could have met you there. Well done on 'The Narrows' as well👌It's a north end local fav - Trevor
Halifax is an under rated spot, for us New England folks, Halifax is the sister city to Portland Maine, they have the same look/feel. My company had a big office there, was one of the best places to visit. The Lower Deck is one of the coolest bars!, We went 2 of 3 nights there. Donairs and Poutine are sooo good !!
Just some other things: -Visiting during either Halcon, or Buskers Festival could be a good time depending on your interests. -Smokes poutinerie can be a good place to have a decent Canadian poutine. -Freak Lunchbox is a fun store to visit especially if you have kids with you
I am so stoked that you made it to Halifax, the city I live in! I was looking up travel tips for Boston, and clicked your channel, so watching this was such a pleasure! Hope you had fun and come back - I'd be happy to show you the things that you weren't able to get to!
Go to Halifax regularly for work staying at Homewood Suites on Brunswick. We always hit Cabin Coffee, Arthur's market, Garrisons of course and the farmers market on weekends....love me some Halifax ❤
Hello Adventurers 😎😎, WOW...your eating all of Halifax and you are not saving ANY for us. NOT FAIR 🙁🙁. Halifax is an amazing city and it was really cool to see you walking along the boardwalk. Save some ice cream for us please 😊😊😊. This was AWESOME ! Can't wait for what's next.
FYI Citadel Hill was built by the Jamaican Maroons who were skilled workers who came with 600 ppl. Just wanted to let you know since you didn’t mention did it the video.
Liked the visit to the citadel. There's also the fortress at Louisburg in Cape Breton that was attacked and captured twice, changing hands between the French and British. The last time the British destroyed it. Rebuilt in 1960s and now a major tourist attraction.
thank once again for sharing your visit to Halifax. you did well. Much enjoyed your time in the Martines. Look forward to more upcoming adventures.....
Very cool video, and I'm happy you enjoyed your stay in Halifax. Back in the 70's I use to do restoration work on Citadel Hill. I haven't thought about that in many many years. Thanks for the video, I really appreciate it.
OMG! You _EACH_ got a large?! The most I can eat if I’m not sharing it is a small! Pro tip is to get extra tomatoes and sauce, along with the regular amount of onions. Tony’s garlic cheese fingers (with donair sauce on the side) are also a classic! Pro tip is to add bacon to the garlic cheese fingers. Cows Ice Cream is also fantastic. While they started in Cavendish PEI, they have two year round locations open, one on the waterfront at the building near the bottom of George St. and another newer one on Spring Garden Rd. near Parklane Mall. I’m shocked that you were able to walk around after that much food! There are sooo many great places in the city. I’m not sure if it was open at the time that you were there, but another fun, and free, thing to do at The Commons (where you were eating the donair) is to go to The Oval. In the warmer months you can borrow a bike, rollerblades, rollerskates, scooters, skateboards etc. In the winter, you can borrow skates. Across the street on the other half of The Commons, there’s a new (opened last year in 2023) free outdoor pool, which is fantastic! It’s VERY popular, so it’s recommended to go first thing in the morning to reserve the time in the day that you want to come back to go swim. They changed it from last year, where it was first come first serve and they’d have to turn people away since there’s 100 person capacity limit per hour. While it might seem like a lot of people, it’s not crowded in the pool. On the corner of Spring Garden Rd. and Queen St., there’s also the Halifax Central Library. Each floor is unique and in the warmer months, there’s an outdoor patio area that’s open on the 5th floor, which has great views of the waterfront and George’s Island. Loved your video! Thanks for sharing some of the key aspects kf our beautiful city!
Just finishing up our meal at The Narrows Public House (devoured the Dutch Mess), after earlier today grabbing a donair at Tony's. Ate the exact same food you did on the video, including the sticky toffee pudding (plus we couldn't pass on trying the molasses tart). All sooooo good. Thanks for the recommendations.
Awww what a fun day! Halifax looks like such a fun town! Helen and I thoroughly enjoyed this one while eating some fish and chips from a local tavern. What a great surprise to see you had some amazing fish and chips as well! Hope you have a fantastic Thanksgiving week! Hi mom!
Another great video. love the colourful chairs and the beautiful garden. The public house is so cute. That was a very big piece of fish, I was salivating at this end. Lol. Thank you both so much for sharing your journeys, bringing countries that I may never visit to me. greatly appreciated.😊
Great opening with the coffee shop. Reminds me to make my pour over while I watch this entire video. Love the walkable small safe clean city where I can eat and walk all day. I'm sure you guys make a lot of effort in staying fit in spite of all those food every where.
Yes Halifax is super walkable and very enjoyable to walk around! We usually lift weights (although it's been tough without Planet Fitness) and recently have been incorporating more running!
Alright, we've been watching you guys for years, and I have to say, it's SO weird seeing you guys in my (Brandon) home town. 😂 Donairs are definitely a Halifax (especially drunken) staple. You should have gotten some garlic fingers with it. THE BEST. I'm honestly surprised you guys enjoyed them. People are surprised at first with the sweet, garlicy sauce. 😅 Glad to see you guys had fun. 😁 And I can't believe you guys got to go to a Mooseheads game. CLASSIC night out in Halifax. Such a childhood thing for me!
We visited Halifax in 2017 and since it was Canada’s 150th birthday, a lot of the sites were free. We liked The Wave and the Maritime Museum on the boardwalk as well as Theodore the Tugboat.
Awesome! A hockey game is super fun! Check out our website as well, we have tons of helpful content there including a Nova Scotia road trip itinerary Adventuresofaplusk.com/canada
Great video guys , I've been to Halifax a few times but you've brought up locations and places that I want to go back and see. Now we do have a Donaire restaurant less than a kilometer away , and now I'm craving that lol. We enjoy your videos keep them coming
My home town! It's been awhile since I have visited since I live out west now, but hoping to go back in the near future. Thanks for taking us along on your adventures. Nothing like good sticky toffee pudding! :)
I knew you'd say that Halifax reminds you of Boston! Lol. I'm Canadian, and had visited Halifax before I visited Boston. I said the same thing in reverse: that Boston made me think of a bigger Halifax. How come you didn't bring Kona with you when you walked through the parks?
Kona stayed in the van because sometimes it is difficult to have her with us on filming days, especially in cities. She requires 100% attention from one of us so it's just hard having her when were working sometimes. Thank you and thanks for watching!
THANK YOU so much for showing my province and city of Halifax in such a great light. It has it's issues as does any city but you've showcased some of the great things it has to offer. I look forward to the next instalment. PS: Did you finish those donairs? lol
Great video! Our daughter lives in Halifax. We've been several times, but have yet to go to The Narrows. Time to go back. BTW, she agrees with you about Weird Hatbour Espresso! Safe travels and Happy Thanksgiving!
The angelic music during the desert made me LOL! We're finally leaving Redding, heading to our next assignment in Palo Alto. I really loved cruising around on the Sac River Trail. That's gotta be one of the top bike trails in the country. I loved all the steep hills and curves! It was like riding a roller coaster on a bike. And all the side trails that branch off were just as awesome, with great views of Mt. Lassen and Mt. Shasta. I really enjoyed it here. If we ever come back, we are going to hike to the Trinity Alps. That place is &^%$ing amazing!
haha that angelic music was Kathryn's idea 😂 aw man that's got to be bitter sweet! That is such an awesome bike path! Palo Alto will be a ton of fun too though. Can't wait to hear what you get up to!
@@AdventuresofAplusK Yeah, totally bitter sweet. When you stay in one place for a while you get attached, or at least I do! Like this was actually our home for a while and I was on that trail twice a week or more for 4.5 months. I still have very fond memories (and photos and drone videos) of Colorado last year. But that sense of adventure and experiencing new places keeps driving us forward as I'm sure you guys know and relate to quite well!
You two find the most amazing places to eat!! That food looks so good. By the way, would you consider doing a live-stream Q&A? I am sure you would get a great response.
Awesome! Kona stays in the van when she can't join us. We only leave her for a few hours normally and we turn the AC if it's too warm. You can learn more about how we travel with her here: adventuresofaplusk.com/full-time-van-life-with-a-dog-tips-for-traveling-with-a-dog/
It's donair, not döner. It is inspired by the döner/ gyro, but it does not taste the same. It's definitely its own thing. I'm from Halifax- but also lived in Turkey before, so I have plenty of experience with both!
Great to see everything Halifax has to offer 👍 love how there are many things offered right in city area & free to explore! You made great choices on food too !
The donair looked so good. Always wanted to head up there, especially with how beautiful the surrounding area is. You’re right, definitely has a Boston vibe.

Kona stays in the van when she can't join us. We only leave her for a few hours normally and we turn the AC if it's too warm. You can learn more about how we travel with her here: adventuresofaplusk.com/full-time-van-life-with-a-dog-tips-for-traveling-with-a-dog/
Fun. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Agree that it is exactly like Bostons little brother.
you guys are maniacs for ordering larger donairs hahah small is more than big enough.....also we usually chow on those at 2am after boozing hahaha
Isabelle Adjani starred in the film story of Adele H. In Halifax Nova Scotia.
Beautiful Canada 🇨🇦
Nice 😊😊
Hey guys, döner is 100% turkish food and greek people call that gyro 😋
It's donair, not döner. It is inspired by the döner/ gyro, but it does not taste the same. It's definitely its own thing.
I'm from Halifax- but also lived in Turkey before, so I have plenty of experience with both!
You mentioned Boston--I'd say based on your video, it feels very much like Portland Maine (which is basically the same size, metro area-wise)
We can see that too. Halifax and Boston have some history together though. That’s partially why we compared them
@@AdventuresofAplusK Love your videos, by the way. I'm dying to do a Nova Scotia/PEI/Newfoundland trip.
We have lots of content on our website that might be helpful to you! Adventuresofaplusk.com/canada
Great to see everything Halifax has to offer 👍 love how there are many things offered right in city area & free to explore! You made great choices on food too !
What app do you guys use to edit your videos?
We use Adobe Premiere Pro
The donair looked so good. Always wanted to head up there, especially with how beautiful the surrounding area is. You’re right, definitely has a Boston vibe.
One does this.... (Adam's moose antlers) But maybe everyone should. 😊
