Fun fact: the bass player (David Paton) was a lead singer himself back in the 70's & sang the hit song "Magic" for the group Pilot. You may have seen the unfortunate remake which is now being used in the annoying commercial for the drug "O-O-O -OZEMPIC!" He also played with Elton John for a while in the 80's & is even in his "Wrap Her Up' video" which also had George Michael.
The bass player we see in this video is Phil Chen, who was Rod's full-time bassist from the mid-'70s to early '80s. He also played for guys like Jeff Beck and Pete Townshend.

IMHO. This is an iconic 80's hit. The video doesn't measure up to the underlying feeling of the music itself. There's "Passion" in the music but none in the video. Chintzy early '80's stuff. One of Rod's best. He's a master entertainer.
Acually I agree. I rather listen to this song then look at he video. Imho the video takes the song down. But the song is truly timeless and indeed iconic, but very overlooked.
I saw Rod once years ago in Indianapolis. Had to sit so far back I felt I was in London and he was in Bangkok. At the end he must have spent an hour on stage while my friend and I stood watching and listening-- AFTER SHOW WAS OVER. He is like really a trouper. Its probably a staff member sent that MSG, but its great. He's the only celebrity I've ever seen in concert. It was the 80s I think. I was no kid but I still remember it. He was just like now, funny, friendly and polite. along with that great singing style. Loved every minute. We stood and clapped and enjoyed it til they finally closed-stopped. It was great!
"Some people are scaaared..." One of the greatest Pop/Rock/Disco track of the era (70's-early 80's) for sure. Rod and his band were really at their peak back then. That crystal sound (piano and keyboard) in the background is awesome and unique.
Yeah that piano melody and the singing that Rod does on this track is simply a masterpiece and is very unique. No song even compares to this one at all. Such a bad-ass song!🤩
and can you tell me why we don't hear this song more often on various outlets? some things just don't make sense. super popular in January 1980 then seemed to die. not as far as I'm concerned! Love it
This is timeless... 41 years old but still fresh and new. This might as well have been recorded in 2021, it doesn't look like 4 decades at all. That's remarkable. With this band Rod sounded better than ever. Never understood why he fired them or replaced them with other musicians. This band had chemistry and that's a very delicate and precious thing. Musicians can be replaced, but you can't replace chemistry and uniqueness. They recorded 3 albums in this line up: Foot Loose (1977), Blondes (1978) and Foolish Behavior (1980). Rod's three best albums. I still have them on vinyl. Good memories...

@@rexmaximilian9548 "Passion" would not be the JAM it is without Chen's bass. many a great tune BENEFITED from a serious fat bass; in fact, you cant have a danceable hit without some serious bass; "Staying Alive" and "You Should Be Dancing" by The Bee Gees would not have been the massive hits they were without Maurice Gibb pounding out those bass lines. Fleetwood Mac's "Sisters of the Moon", "Go Your Own Way" and "The Chain" were made BETTER by John McVie's bass. Chen was with Rod for a short time but he definitely added to rods output. it is hard to imagine this tune without the BASS.

I’m being70 I still have a young look at life, I hope I’m still like this whenI 80.

Pure dynamite and nitroglicerine ❤
Time passes and Rod's voice remains beautiful. Thank you for sharing this sound because it is wonderful. Congratulations dear Rod. Love always.👏🌹👊⚘🤘🍀⚘
2024 definitely needs passion... The good kind! 💯😎
Agreed!
Back when musicians had passion.............the bass line in this is ear candy. RIP Phil Chen :(
Exactly 💝💝💝
@@Stardust_4300 amen to that and rods passion!
Rod Stewart is the best! They say he is so polite. That wasn't him really? Its someone playin'!?
This is a professional art masterpiece I wish all mankind will see and listen this unforgettable presentation.
OMG... I'm love this song... theres something about Rod that melts my heart & soul! 💕
Agree 🔥🔥🔥
"Some people are scaaared..."
One of the greatest Pop/Rock/Disco track of the era (70's-early 80's) for sure. Rod and his band were really at their peak back then. That crystal sound (piano and keyboard) in the background is awesome and unique.

The intro piano is fantastic
Yeah that piano melody and the singing that Rod does on this track is simply a masterpiece and is very unique. No song even compares to this one at all. Such a bad-ass song!🤩
After 50 ans d une carrière musicale de haute qualité et puissance des tripes et énormes PASSION FOR EVER MR ROD
One of my favorite songs from Rod Stewart.
something right
Really
Timeless track. Crank it up and enjoy. The bass line, the lead guitar, the rythm guitar, and the drums. It just don't get any better than this
and can you tell me why we don't hear this song more often on various outlets? some things just don't make sense. super popular in January 1980 then seemed to die. not as far as I'm concerned! Love it

80s ruled the radio

Gotta love the bass in this tune. Outstanding.
Chen THUMPED the mess outta that bass!!!
He was with rod for a short time. Henstill plays but yes, he got down on this track
That baseline isn't holding a candle 🕯️ to his sandpaper voice!
@@mercedyzmarieguion292 Relatively short time, but had a massive hits with Rod. He really made those songs groove!
@@rexmaximilian9548
"Passion" would not be the JAM it is without Chen's bass. many a great tune BENEFITED from a serious fat bass; in fact, you cant have a danceable hit without some serious bass; "Staying Alive" and "You Should Be Dancing" by The Bee Gees would not have been the massive hits they were without Maurice Gibb pounding out those bass lines. Fleetwood Mac's "Sisters of the Moon", "Go Your Own Way" and "The Chain" were made BETTER by John McVie's bass. Chen was with Rod for a short time but he definitely added to rods output. it is hard to imagine this tune without the BASS.
Just heard the sad news that bass player Phil Chen died on December 14, 2021 at age 80. Rest in peace and thanks for those awesome bass lines, Phil!😥🎼🎵🎶
This song really is awesome and it's off a really great album but i still count "Blonds Have More Fun" as my favorite Rod Stewart record.
This is his best hit. The right combination

Rod is a very energetic singer on stage😊
He could make a deal with the manufacturer of a product named "Cellerciser" he can jump longer and help move the lymphatic system.
But he's enjoying life.
Saw Rod at Edinburgh Castle. 78 years old now and still a fantastic voice .
My favorite Bass line ever! Also my favorite Rod Stewart Album!
Phil Chen on bass - no doubt its one of my favorite bass lines in a song.
