  • We were supposed to have dinner at Oi Man Sang (Dai Pai Dong), but when we arrived, the place was crowded and there was a huge line. After taking a number and waiting in line for a bit, we decided to leave because it didn't seem to be moving forward. We stopped at Chung Gor's Kitchen on the way back to our hotel since the roast goose on display in front of the restaurant drew our attention, so we decided to give it a try. We went in because one of the things we wanted to try was roast goose.
I ordered several dishes to try. The first was a barbecue meat platter with roast goose and char siu (BBQ pork), a garlic choi sum veggie stir fry, and a pan-fried flat rice noodle with beef and bean sprouts. But when I saw our neighboring table had a steamed fish dish, I couldn’t resist and ordered one for our dinner.
Our dinner came with a complimentary daily soup that was made with pork bones and green veggies. The soup was salty, so I left it aside. I'm not sure if the chef was a bit heavy-handed with salt or if it was just the end of the day and the soup had boiled down and become salty.
Anyway, the most anticipated dish was the roast goose, so I had to give that a try first. The roast goose had crispy skin and juicy, tender meat. The sauce that was used to put over top was probably the juice inside the goose.
We ordered a half-fatty and half-lean piece of char siu, which lent to the tenderness of the meat and paired nicely with the sweet honey glaze.
The garlic veggie stirfry was also very tasty and cooked perfectly. The veggie still had a bite when you bit into it.
The pan-fried flat rice noodle was my least favorite dish for the night. It had good flavor but lacked seasoning and could have done a tad more soy sauce.
The steam fish with pickled Chinese vegetables paired nicely with the ginger and the sweet soy, but I did not like the Chinese pickle on top, so I moved them all to one side and enjoyed my steamed fish with just ginger and seasoned soy sauce.
Overall, the food at the restaurant was tasty. I would recommend coming back to try just the barbecue meat alone. So if you are ever in Hong Kong and visiting, please do come by and try. Make sure to leave me a comment and share your experiences with me.
