This is what i learned from watching a 35 minute video by Alex Snodgrass, about setting up your bandsaw. I was having issues with blade drift no matter what other method i tried. By sharpening the blade and adjusting the top wheel differently i was able to get much better cuts.

Best tutorial on bandsaws I have ever seen bro, short, concise, and includes only the important things
I waisted 3 hrs tinkering with my small Axminster bandsaw trying to get the tension right, then I came in and watched your video now it can cut a half millimetre veneer off a 3ft length length of 2x2 .
Great advice
Dave, may I thank you very much. I had an issue with my bandsaw after I put a new blade in it. It started making a really bad noise which I knew didn`t sound right. I left it for ages hoping I could get someone who knew what they were doing as far as adjustments were concerned but I never found anyone. I decided to look on UA-cam and saw your procedure. And I`m extremely happy to tell you after following your Sequence of adjustments I have it once again running smoothly with no horrible noises coming from it. So a Big massive thankyou from the UK.
Man, I am so glad I found this video!! For 5 years I’ve dealt with my bandsaw wandering and diving off my line. I honestly just quit using it because I was so fed up. Last night I found this video and made adjustments as it takes about and man it cuts PERFECT. One thing I would say though: a bandsaw blade is like $10.. don’t waste an hour of your time sharpening an old blade, just go buy one
blade that came with mine was all kinked. didnt trust it at all. day one bought a new blade for it. quality one.
worth checking your blades good on a new machine.
Man i watched a dozen videos and your is the 1st that met my requirements THANKS
It may be overkill but while watching you’re watching your video, I used my vinyl cutter to make note of your tips and I adhered them right to the front of the band saw as a personal reminder. Thank you for the post.
Finally found a band saw video that teaches me something.
OMG thank you so much 🙏🏻 that makes so much sense to prevent the twisting of the blade (keeping the teeth supported) I can finally start producing my designs!!
MANY THANKS! YOU fixed my saw. Followed your advice after putting a fresh new "tire" on.
My 12 in Craftsman (very similar to your model here) has never cut straight - for years - now it is just fine and the miter guide is no longer a joke.
Good tips just like Alex's tutorial...
Keeping pitch off the tires with some simple green and blowing all that sawdust helps also!
Fantastic how-to. Right to the point & easy to follow. I've been having fits with a similar bandsaw & this is the best 6:14 I've spent on the youtubes helping me with the issues. Props & thanks.
I met Alex couple times on the woodworking shows. He's a great Guy with a lot of bandsaw knowledge. Keep it up 🤜
For for wood bandsaw he’s the man
Great video for me. Most have big fancy saws, but this is more specific for my little Delta. Thanks
Very helpful video, thank you so much. Every time you said something that wasn't clear enough, you followed up with a closeup and explanation. Videos are rarely this helpful.
Greatings from the winter months of Maine.. I needed this video ! Thank you! You broke this down "Barney Style" . THANK YOU!
I took all of your tips and also watched Alex's video and it totally fixed my problem! BTW - your video was just as good!
100th video i watched on bandsaw adjustments and this IS the solution for mine. I got goosebumps when it finally made a perfect cut. Thanks!
Thanks for the video, I have that exact bandsaw and never really know haw to set it up right.
Thank you for the video! I too have a small benchtop bandsaw with narrower wheels. When I saw the Snodgrass video, I assumed that the bit about centering the bottom of the gullet pertained only to bigger saws with wide enough wheels to still support to the whole blade even with it moved back farther - something like a 3/8” blade would have the back of it hanging off of the wheel. I see that it has still improved things for you though, so I’ll give it a try. Thank you again!
thanks. Simple and to the point. I'll be working on my bandsaw next weekend. The blade was shifting from side to side and now I know why.
Thank you. I have been struggling with this on my Delta bandsaw for years!
Thank you for posting this video. I just bought a Rikon 10” saw and changed the blade. I had it centred to forward on the top wheel and my resaw cuts were pretty lousy. Tried your suggestion about centering the gullets...it was perfect. Thanks for sharing this information.
Thanks man. All I have to say is that I have a 62" Ryobi bandsaw, and you helped make it a heck of a lot better. Not perfect, but still miles from where I was before. 😊🌎❤️💪
Awesome ! Short, to the point and great audio. Thanks for making and posting the video.
Thank you for this. Between you and Alex my saw is so much better👍🏻
Awesome!! I picked up the same bandsaw and was thinking of getting rid of it because of the drift. I'll try these adjustments! Thanks!
Thank you for this. I bought a band saw and it worked perfect. Then the blade came loose and it was never the same again. I was using it and after frustration, turned to UA-cam. Now it works perfectly again. The only thing I did was reposition the teeth.
Thanks for the video. Did everything you said about adjustments, but, it was still cutting to the left, until I replaced the blade as one last thing. Now it cuts straight and quick.
Excellent summary - just the quick guide I was looking for 👍
Many thanks, just got a new bandsaw and getting ready to change blades. I am going to watch the video you recommended next.
Thank you so much, I'm just setting up my new bandsaw now and that was super helpful!
Really enjoyed seeing a small bandsaw, gives me hope!
Excellent! I just got a Delta BS-100 second hand. This is exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks a million for the info! The wheels not needing to be coplanar will save my life. I could spend hours trying to get the top and bottom to line up perfectly.... Definitely going to give my saw a tune up later
This is partially true. If you’re running a blade where is tracks entirely on the tire it’s fine, but if you run a large blade you run the risk of hitting the rim of the wheel ..... some saws don’t have a rim, like most smaller saws, then you’re ok. On large saws there is a 1/8 tall metal rim that is in the front and back of the tires and with large blades you don’t want it hitting.
Thank you brother you solved my problem...🙏 From India 😊
great video ! this was the information i needed. perfectly described what to do to make it better
Thank you, thank you, thank you lol! Just got a new band saw and it keeps cutting to the right! Took a while to find the right video to explain. Good stuff man thanks!
Excellent vid Dave great advice worked really well for me.
Great vid Dave. Just what I needed. Thanks!
thanks, Dave for making this video. those three points are excellent. please vacuum the saw dust inside every so often. cheers
Worked like a charm thanks!
Thank you. This was exactly what I needed.
Now that makes sense! Thanks. Appreciate the video.
Thanks, Dave! This really helped.
Yesss!! Thank you sir. Been doing my head in until I watched this vid
Thanks, your advice has great. Alex’s Video was great. I have a Delta bandsaw just like yours. This was my only Delta tool that I was not happy with. And it was my fault. After I adjusted everything. The second I turned it on, I could hear the different. No more Drift. Again, thanks for your help.
Thank you! I bought my first legit bandsaw early in the year but couldn't get it to cut straight and it's been sitting ever since. I'll give this a shot tomorrow
So so glad I found your video!
Great sum up. Thanks
Thank you for posting this! Very helpful
Ten Star Video!…you did a great job. And yes, its very helpful.
Great stuff....i have Learn lots in this quick video.... 🙏
Nice job on the video. Right to the point. Thank you!
Thanks man good video. Im a chef and have to cut 1,000 l.b.s of beef a few times a week. Saw blades that break mid cut cause fkn heart attacks, I didn’t know about the gullet band placement on the upper wheel. I’ll try it today
You are a savior my guy!
Great video, needed that info, awesome you gave credit
Good video, I like how you were right to the subject
I’m sure this will help a lot thank you.
This video was in my recommended feed lol but still nice to share info, on my old Rockwell beaver, I shimmed out the bottom wheel bracket the thickness of a fender washers, Just so when I have a 1 inch resaw blade, it does not drive itself off the bottom wheel. but you are 100% correct, as long as the gullets are in the middle of the top wheel, no drift happens which means less blade tension is needed and longer tool and blade life. Cheers Mate!
Terrific help. Thanks!
Great advice! Thanks!
Thank you Dave!
Thanks a mil!!! I hope this works for me!
Thnaks for the video. Tomorrow will try these improvements )
Thanks, great useful tips
Awesome dude!!
Thanks I have the exact same bandsaw with the same problem thanks 1 million
Thanks for the cliff notes version :)
huge help thank you
GREAT JOB
Correct. Gullet edge lines up with centerline of the top wheel. Then tracking is dead on perfect. I did a 7-inch wide resaw with perfect alignment after setting up this way. Thanks.
Thank you!!
A sharp blade makes a mountain of difference
Excellent thankyou 🙂
Thanks a ton!
Great - thanks
You can use paper to adjust the back bearing. Paper usually runs about 1/1000th of an inch. I found centering the blade on top made all the difference for ripping/re-sawing also.
Thank you help a lot
Glad I came across this. I wasted a piece of Ebony ☹️ due to blade drift😢
Thanks D!
Thanks
My son "adjusted" my bandsaw and I cannot even use it anymore because the blade is screeching like an owl. I do not think he watched your video or the ones you recommend. Thank you!
Hello . Finally . Found your vid so helpful in setting up my Ryobi 9 inch band saw. I put a new 3/8 blade on and did all of the ajustment you mentioned but when i cut wood it cuts to the left no matter what I do. Any thoughts you might have would be great. From up here in northern Canada keep up the great vids.
I will give ita try
Thanks I just got one n I broke the blade. Here I am looking for information Thanks buddy
Thank u
I messed with my bandsaw today and I don't seem to be able to reset it.. I will try and do what you just showed in this video and hopefully it will work 😂
Just the vid I was looking for. Have a fairly new bandsaw thats all over the place. Impossible to do straight cuts without twisting all over the place! My tracking is way off if thats where the blade is supposed to cut. Thanks for the info. Off I go to the shed again!
same thing happened to me with my new portal cable
Thank for the information .My band saw is new, when I operate it, the belt or band that goes on the lower pulley comes off the rollers. please help
You should link the video you recommend
How can we fix the blade to avoid disalignment and detachment from the top metal plate?
Does the saw cut straight now?
The first cut you made was way off parallel with the bed.
Maybe it was just for show but it would be good to see how accurate you can get it
What do you adjust to get the teeth to ride in the middle?
prettier than my 9" wen. wish theyd add a centee line to the rubbers. hard to know if your central without a lot of back n forth.
that said im sure i could add somesort of pointer, just need it to follow the wheel adjustment
Thanks for the video. One question though: what if the blade is almost as wide as the top wheel? Should I center the gullets anyway and let the rest of the blade be unsupported ,off from the wheel? Hope this is understandable ,-) Thanks....
I know what you are saying - i'm not sure of the answer.
But yes, i think it's ok if part of the blade is un-supported. But not sure.
I never had straight cuts so far. Let me check if this works 😆😆😆
1/2” blade on that beast?
So what would you do if you got the widest blade for that machine but its to wide to centre the gullet on the blade to the top wheel? What would you do then?🤔🤔 centre the blade to the top wheel??
I'm not sure. I think for one of my blades - the edge opposite the teeth, hangs off the wheel edge.
Hi Dave- I have the exact same band saw in this video. What type of saw is on yours? Mine looks way thinner
I forget. I sold the saw for like $80 or $100 a few years ago.
I think i just looked up the blade length then bought one on Amazon.
Originally i had a thinner blade but it broke at the weld.
