Hi Kenny. Really enjoying your interviews lately! You ask good questions and you let the other person talk without interruption. First one I watched was with that guy who hasn’t shaved in 50 years. Yeah, that guy! The most recorded bassist in history! His playing on Evergreen changed my life forever. My sister played this song repeatedly back when I was 10...in 1977. It’s had lasting effects on me felt to this very day. Keep up the good work my friend. Thank you.
Easily one of the best ones you’ve done so far. Dee has long been an inspiration to me going all the way back to the PMRC hearings on Capital Hill. Thanks Kenny!
Inspired to do what? The PMRC hearings were about a parental warning sticker not censorship, there was nothing about it that would make Dee Snider an American hero, He lost the battle. You must be a total brain dead boomer living in fantasy world like he is.
This is a pivotal conversation. Thanks Kenny and Dee for such inspiration. It is a prime example of focusing a goal with direction to accomplish great things! Much love and respect for making music that will stand the test of time.
@@KennyAronoffOfficial i wish mellencamp would have included a live album on the scarecrow box set. my fav album of all time. that band, live, was on fire. give us a live album from those years. cheers
Wait so his trooper dad had police plant drugs on him and arrest him while he was riding a bicycle at work? He puts his foot in his mouth everytime he says anything, hes like a real life Zoolander. Too funny! 😂
Up to 86% of fliers from the 8th Airforce were killed, MIA or POW in WW2. Kenny, I have to read your book!!! Excellent interview. That was one revealing interview with Dee Snider. BTW, I'm stealing your shaved head, scarf and sunglasses look.
It was because you were in drag that the record executives ignored you. Today they wouldn't. I'm glad that didn't happen or it would'nt have been the legend it is now!😎
my dad was tough when i was a really young kid, but his parents are from germany and escaped ww2 near the end. But then he became really chill when I got into playing drums and listened to music from the 60's, 70's, 80's, the same music he grew up with. It created a bond and i started showing other bands to him and we go to concerts every year.
In 1985, age of 18, I was living with my cousins in Sweden. My 9 year old cousin and her best friend (who then, didn’t speak a word of English), came into my room singing Twisted Sister. True story. Thank you for that memory Dee.🌸
Love this Kenny, It's a bit epic moment for me.. grew up in a pink house with Dee's face plastered on my wall from Hit Parader. Haha. Mentioning Entwistle and how solid Dee's wife has always been. 🤘 Good times!
In the late 70's the triangle area circuit was NRBQ, Michael Bolotin Band, Twisted Sister, The Good Rats and Little Villiage. Good Rats and Twisted Sister used to play together a lot. The Good Rats had this schtick where they would wind up dumping rubber rats from a garbage can out . I never actually saw them but did see NRBQ and Little Village. In 1984 I saw Santana in New Haven Coloseum and Michael Bolotin was a special guest on stage for a couple songs. He later changed his name to Bolton😉
A couple things really resonate from this video… Kenny is as good at conversation as he is at drums. He doesn’t talk over the guest and makes the guest the star. Dee… some of the music was overshadowed by the looks, but they rocked. Very possibly, he’s one of the best MEN in rock, regardless of the look on stage. Any musician (I’m a guitarist) would love to hang with Dee. I’ve always loved the energy.
It's clear as day, especially if you early Dee's voice in the late 70s, that he was trained. His diction and delivery were almost "Broadway meets Lou Reed". I noticed it in their documentary.
The question I have and I've heard JJ French talk about this too, that some of the best musicians were a part of this tri-state club cirir scene. I'm wondering if there was ever anyone who was a really good skilled musician, who never made it out of this scene. Because like dee said it was hard to get a record deal at the time.
But didn't he have to use his name on the application? So he lied to co workers who knew exactly who he was?? He has a wife and grandchildren ? He never was LGBTHLQMALTY? I thought Twisted Sister raised that gay biker flag higher than anyone back in the 80's? , Strange ,, I just heard Slayer were actually Catholics. Is this a Mandala effect?????
I used to drive a taxi on L.I. in the summer of '83 and as I dropped off one of my fares @ a place on Sunrise Hwy. in Lindy...I coukl hear TS' music or Zebra playing inside when the front door of the bar opened. I had to work. :( I was too young to see TS @ the famous Hammerheads in West Islip that summer. 😥
YO KENNY!!! DID YOU PLAY PHOENIX MEMORIAL IN THE 1970'S??? OPENING FOR KANSAS??? SOME MORONS NEXT TO THE STAGE HIT JOHN WITH ORANGES. EVEN IN THE CHEAP SEATS I COULD SEE IT HURT. SOME SMART GUY PUT THE BEATLES "COME TOGETHER" ON AND PREVENTED A RIOT.
I always liked TS, but after watching a documentary about them, and how hard they had to work to get signed, my respect for them went through the roof. Behind the whole glam/cartoonesque image, they were extremely driven. Dee's also an anomaly in the music and especially the hard rock world. He has been with the same wife forever, he wrote a Christmas song for Céline Dion and pretty much used the royalties from that to get TS back on the road, back when his day job was putting out flyers for his wife's beauty salon. And his business acumen is great, too. He recently sold his publishing rights to his songs because it made more fiscal sense than to reap the royalties from here on out.
The drum break in Jack & Diane and the intro to We're Not Gonna Take It were two of my favorites growing up as a beginner drummer in the early 80's! Great interview Kenny!
Dee is such a cool guy. He and my son got into a political debate on instagram and when all was said and done he said to my son, “You’re a cool kid Nico. There is nothing wrong with a healthy debate , I respect your position.”
Yesssss Dee is super cool and super smart. That is rare and so cool that people can have a discussion and disagree on a topic and walk away appreciating that they had an open discussion. I love that.
@@KennyAronoffOfficial Absolutely, when Dee appeared before congress for the censorship stuff with Tipper Gore, he was articulate and brilliant. I was a teenager but extremely impressed and proud of him.
@@KennyAronoffOfficial You are welcome. I wondered, why does this snare sound so good? Are the heads tightened to the max? What is it? I see you talking to Beato about hitting the rim and the head together. Ah ha moment! That’s how it’s done. So when I’ve heard that great sound, it was you. Genius at large!
Dee is my Spirit Animal. And Kenny, is fast becoming my favorite interviewer. 💜💜
Joe .. I love that......"Spirit Animal" : )

Thank you Kenny! These interviews are awesome. What the f is that image reflected on Dee's shades? Looks like the Steve Vai Hydra guitar.
