Wow I don't see too many fiberglass boats. Its really noticeable how quiet it is and also in the wind chop. You do some excellent presentations. Thanks for taking the time and posting.
Thxs Dean very informative content and very educational for us that have never fished for Barra. Just comes to show how much you put into your fishing. Thank you
Hey mate. Iv been watching your vids whenever I can. I haven’t done that much fishing but took the family along with the bit of knowledge you have shared for a few days to Kinchant. I had never caught a Barra before but got to a good spot, set myself up and started casting. I was trying to figure out the right speed to stay close to the weed, it was probably my 5 cast and I thought id got the weed again. I gave my rod a slight pull and this big silver monster rose up and spat my lure back at me lol. This happened 5 or 6 times before I got everything right and finally got to take my lure out of my first Barras gob. I caught 5 that evening the smallest was 79 and the biggest 102 I’m not sure how many I missed! The best part of all this was off the bank, I don’t have a boat 👍
Cheers for the tips mate! Counting down the days now until I get the chance to fish it and these videos just make me even more keen keep up the top work 🤟🏽
Yeah buddy. Thanks so much for this stuff. It really is invaluable to someone like myself who only has a few days each trip to get a fish in the boat. Your 1st vid helped me get my 1st impoundment Barra, let’s hope this vid helps me get my 2nd. 🤙👍👍
Thanks for your wealth of information Dean..One Question why run trebles if your running just above the weed and not singles.. Is it because 3 points are better than one? Even though i have seen quite a few barra caught with single hooks in place..As for the swim rod idea i imported a Powell 795 heavy fast action and have teamed it up to my old Abu 6500 kitted out with the Erskine drag kit and 40lb braid...I swapped the handle out and fitted a 7000 handle instead which helps me retrieve much as yourself.. Do you think 3ft diving classic barra lures or 3ft diving scorpion lures casted in the areas you reccommend work as equally well as the big softies your throwing? Regards B.J.
hey mate i have years ago ran big shallow running deep divers and caught fish in kinchant. Not sure i could replicate that in awoonga with the fish sitting a bit deeper. I like trebles for the head butt and cheek swipe bites. I have also ran singles on bass lures to keep the weed off to good effect and when they eat the lure it works well but if they are swiping lures i don't think it will be as effective.
Hey Mate! Is your set up for these Beautiful large fish a Heavy duty Largemouth Bass setup or more a Striper setup or a ocean fish setup. Thinking about Rod and reel strength for this size. Looking for the comparison from American fishing vs Downunder fishing. The Power Handle gives you the torque along with the gear ratio. G-Man said he doesn't fish with anything over 6 to 8 to 1. But these are huge fish. Thanks again Dean. For your informative videos. 👍 Shawn.
More of a striper set up mate, maybe a heavy frogging or flipping set up. Yes if you run high gear ratio reels they are lacking in cranking power, thats the trade off for speed
Gday sylvester. Love ya show mate. I live on the doorstep of tinaroo dam and fish for barra. Get a lot of bites but few hookups. Can you please explain how to set up a stinger hook without compromising soft plastic action? Thanks mate. Love the muzza cod action too.
Hi Dean, How are you doing mate? God, i love this time of year, my favorite number one fish to catch THE MIGHTY BARRAMUNDI is being targetted by a lot of anglers, from impoundment, estuaries and river systems, rocky headlands you name it i love fishing for Barra in any of these locations. A fantastic idea you had this afternoon, a very helpful and educational video, excellent. When it comes to knowledge sharing you really do have a knack for simplifying things and condensing the information into an easy to absorb format. Very to the point and matter of fact. Just the way i like it. Interesting to see you have decided to drop the twist snap. I love them but at times have also been a bit disappointed when they twist up into the tow ring in a fashion that impedes the lure's action so that you end up skull dragging the lure with no action basically. I love your weapon of choice the Dobyns Fury and Akuma Kamodo a beast of a setup. I have a Dobyns Fury FR 795SB rod but run an Abu Revo Toro NaCl. I am really hanging out to go get tight on some Barra this year, especially up at Lake Tinaroo. Thanks again for the great informative video. I hope you get into a few tonight. I am pushing out plenty of positive vibes for Jelena to come up trumps with her first Barra to hit the deck tonight mate, would be great for her to get one in, considering her unfortunate losses a couple of nights ago. Good luck to you both. Like you need it but, Dean ha ha ha. At least your lady has the best teacher mate. Regards Dave.
Cheers for the comments mate, much appreciated. Always like to give some tips to people in order to help them catch more fish. Some people, well most people that this will help travel a long way to come up here in the hope to one day catch a barramundi. Tinaroo should be firing for you soon? I still like the snap but I just don't want to risk it early on and Troy seemed to lose fish from it and i didn't so i didn't want to recommend it to people and they.y lose that dream fish from the clip. The ring option is basically fail proof, i also like to show people something they can tie a normal knot to. as some people struggle with a loop knot or tie a loop that is 5cm long 😂 this way they can tie whatever knot they like and the lure will still swim properly.
@@DeanSilvester yep got it, very good point mate as usual, your all over it. Like you say, the twist clips I like to use a lot of friends don't like them as they find them too hard to use, need strong fingers
Thanks Dean, mate do you know if on the newer moline 140 and 120 if they have strengthen the rear wire crimps to hold treble hooks instead of the blade, thanks again for your vid’s mate
they have but i still crimp them with split ring pliers as they are still not really designed for a fish to hang off them. In saying that, with all the fish i have caught on these lures i have only ever stretched the wire 3 times, maybe 4
never been but might have to check it out. Land based would be similar with bite times mate and if a river system look for places that will hold them in a spot, small side creek or back eddy on a bend etc
Hey mate. I have put in the work at Awoonga, the Fitzroy, Lenthalls and Monduran. I can get bites and can hook up 50% of the time. I just keep dropping the big ones. Either spitting the hooks in the air or getting popped just sub surface. Any tips? Is it a rod thing, soft hands, drag?

wont affect it mate, run a good size one that will handle a barramundi

Leader lenght for BARRA in those Dams Mate ?
I just like around 6-7 feet but have had it as short as 2 feet and not worried me. I just max out so that it doesn't go in my reel when casting
Forgot to ask. Scent or no scent?
I'm not sold either way yet, i do feel that a fresh dip n glo does get nibs
I won’t your exact marks 😂😂
