Excellent review. I have had mine for about 3 weeks now. I agree that the Colorsoft enhances the reading experience. I read mostly non-fiction history and biography books, most of which are loaded with color maps, diagrams and photos. That is a big plus. Like you, I enjoy the colorful covers on the home page. I recently read a non-fiction graphic novel with wonderful color images-resulting in a more enjoyable experience than on my black and white Kindle. I too love the Oasis. However, I placed the Lovehandle XL Device Grip on the back of my Colorsoft and it now feels (grips) similar to the Oasis, but provides more holding options. Mine has the faint yellow bar at the bottom and Amazon is sending me a new one in a few weeks. I had an excellent customer experience with them (so far!). Read on!
I so appreciate a review without the yellow band hysteria. I have mine and it does have the yellow tinge on the bottom. It goes away on different light settings. It simply doesn’t bother me. All in all, the device is a joy to read with after so many years in black and white.
Is it "hysteria" though? I returned my Colorsoft because the yellow tinge at the bottom was very noticeable and in my opinion it's a complete deal breaker in general, much less for a $280 product. I contacted Amazon support and they did not offer a replacement because they have no idea when fixed units will be available, so I was forced to return for a refund. Based on all of the UA-cam videos that I've seen, I think it's likely that Amazon sent their affiliate partners cherry picked good units, which is why so many of them say that they don't see it on their units. Also interesting is the videos where they say that don't notice the yellow tinging, and then they show the screen and I can see it right on the video.
I have the original Oasis and like the design tons (except for the charging cover, which screws the battery up, but that's a story for another day), but no one seems to get that...they didn't sell. If they did, Amazon wouldn't have discontinued it. I've had my Colorsoft for over two weeks, and enjoy how much snappier it is, the fun of color covers, and the extra real estate. If it didn't have the color gradient issue (the more common reference to a yellow "line" or "band" is a poor way to describe it) I'd be 100% happy with it. Still waiting to see how Amazon handles the problem.
@@onemanbookclub2585 I keep hoping they'll release a fancy anniversary edition in the future. A quick, limited run at a high price will get them get it in the hands of their fans, and give Amazon the profit they seek.
This is a great review. I have the original oasis (love) the second oasis (also love) and the scribe (want to love but it is too big). I would adore an updated colorsoft oasis so much. I agree that they discontinued the wrong one. Did you have any issues with the increased amount of blue light from the colorsoft and did you try it one dark mode?
Oh shoot! I forgot to show it on the video!! They don't call it dark mode on the Colorsoft. It's called "page color," and it works the same as dark mode. Works great.
Had 2 Oasisi and disappointed with short battery life. That being said they are really nice reading on. Fully agree Amazon need to bring out a colour oasis and hopefully with better battery life
Thanks! No case for me...that defeats the purpose because you don't see the book covers! I don't use a case for my Oasis either instead I use a Moko felt sleeve to carry them.
I'm enjoying mine. It does have the yellow band, but not freaking out about it. I know Amazon will resolve it, so just waiting to see what the solution is going to be. The yellow tint reminds me of a slightly yellowed page on a second hand book.
I’m still so annoyed Amazon refused to listen to their customers and refresh the Oasis with color ink and updated battery.
💯!

Excellent idea about the grip! I'll check it out! Happy reading!
Absolutely! A color Oasis would be perfect! I love my Colorsoft but not enough to give up my beloved Oasis! It is still my favorite. 📚💖💖

I LOVE my Oasis! I can’t part with it and yes, Amazon needs to bring it back and put it in color!
AMEN! 💯

Wonderful! Glad you're enjoying yours too!

I bought mine just like you! And yes, if it's that noticeable you definitely don't need to put up with it.
There is a setting to show book cover. Disable that in settings to see stock images.
Yep. In the moment, I couldn't think of it and just moved on. Thanks for the comment!

Ya, it's tragic about the Oasis. If only.

Really good review! Do you read your Colorsoft with or without a case?

I will use my Oasis until it dies. Only then will I get a color Kindle
