@@diamondback4522 Of course I read the comment. Did you read mine? Ohtanis SINGLE good year means nothing to history compared to two decades that Ruth had with pitching and hitting. Ohtani needs many, many more years or no one will even remember him in 100 years.
This is just his strikeouts and home runs. Dude also legs out doubles and triples like nobody else, steals bases like a natural thief, fields the mound expertly, and has amazing baseball IQ. Oh and he's also the nicest guy in baseball that gets along with everyone, always has a smile, stops to pick up trash and tidy up the on-deck circle, is always having fun and just loves the game. The most respectful, kind, and sincere player you can imagine. Plus he's pretty easy on the eyes.
Gotta agree with everything you said...with emphasis on the last sentence. How does a guy get to be this talented and this cute at the same time? I feel blessed and honoured I get to watch him live out his dream!
I gave up my life and tried to quit everything. I gave up my dream without getting help from my parents due to economic problems. At one point, I was chasing money, but at one point, I suffered from depression as my health deteriorated due to work addiction, and I gave up my life and tried to quit everything. I fell in love with Shohei Otani's game and went to bed early and woke up early to watch the game. I watched the game even if there was a time difference of 13 to 16 hours. I want to build a healthy body someday, so I'm managing my diet while exercising. Over the past three months, I've changed like this and my depression has improved a lot. This hospital is said to have improved a lot to stop taking medicine. Thanks to Shohei Ohtani, I took care of my health and had a new dream. Thank you so much. I hope you don't get sick like this season and stay healthy next year.
I don’t remember when I last watched a full baseball game before this year and I don’t remember how many games I watched this year because of this guy.
This guy single handedly brought me back to baseball. I actually bought an Ohtani jersey. I haven't cared about baseball in 30 years, but I love this dude.
Im a Yankee fan in NYC. And bought authentic in game Ohtani Nike Jersey cost $470 and then flew all the way to California at angels stadium and got him to sign that Jersey!!! Because Ohtani is worth investing on. He’s a unicorn! Once in my lifetime.
Was never a fan of baseball, in fact, probably hated the game and the athletes due to the whole steroid era. But after watching how remarkably unique Shohei Ohtani’s season was and the type of athlete and role model he is, even a former baseball detractor such as myself can appreciate what he’s accomplished. I’ll not only be following the rest of his career, but I’ll definitely be purchasing the yearly MLB subscription from now on just to watch him play. Now that I’ve learned the rules, game play and nuances of the game, consider me a new fan.
As impressive as this video is, it only shows 2 aspects of his game. He's not just an elite home run slugger and elite pitcher. He also has elite speed, steals tons of bases, rips doubles and triples on the regular, is a great heads-up instinctive baserunner, can play outfield, scores tons of runs, draws boatloads of walks, can bunt for singles, ALWAYS runs hard to first (and often gets infield singles because of it), fields and covers first as well as any pitcher, has insane work ethic and focus, is a great teammate, a fiery competitor yet always smiling and gracious, and has single-handedly given baseball it's first net positive bump in popularity in a long time. We waited 3 years to see a healthy, no-restrictions Shohei unleashed upon MLB, and it finally happened this season. And oh, what a season!
thank you to me this is the greatest season ever....also to add the speed he won a game by stealing second and scoring on a shallow base hit! its the greatest ever by a player period!
Ever wondered what Ichiro would have been like if he'd decided to hit for power (which he quite capably could)? Meet Shohei Ohtani. Their games are a little different since Ohtani is a solid MLB-level pitcher, but their sportsmanship and incredible work ethic--and insane levels of talent--are very similar.

MVP??? Sure, he's the MVP for the Angels, but not the league. Had the Angels even made Wild Card round, then I'd agree with you. MVP should be on a team that makes the playoffs. Angels came in 8 games under .500, 4th place in their division. Same thing happened a couple years ago when Mike Trout was MVP over DJ LeMahieu, when LeMahieu was the main reason the Yankees made the playoffs. Again, the Angels weren't even in.
@@milesbowler5446 ok then who’s AL MVP this year in your opinion? Ohtani, Semien, Guerrero, Ramirez, none of these guys were on playoff teams. Should we really give the 5th best player in the AL the MVP just because they happen to play on a better team?

Thank you for making this film. Even though the season has just ended, I have already missed this guy. Thank you Ohtani for bringing an impressive season and staying healthy. See you next season, our MVP,Shohei Ohtani.
Yes, a most impressive batting average of .257. Like the majority of batters in today's MLB, one dimensional. Homeruns and strikeouts. Bring back Adam Dunn!!!
Impressive even though the team had yet another losing season? Yes I know he can’t win all by himself but he’s never gonna get a ring with this team. Especially with the Astros ruling the division for the foreseeable future.
That line drive that Shohei Ohtani legged into a triple did something I never seen before - tore the gloves webbing going straight through it! Showtime brought me back to baseball, a total joy to watch! Thank you Shohei - I bow in much respect.
YES, a very smart player. True fans of MLB know it when they see it. Some players are good athletes...but not necessarily intelligent players. Shohei-san has it ALL. It's almost like you can SEE his mind working. I love it so much. Brains and athletic talent, plus relentless drive and work ethic--the combination is what makes him so great.
Thank you for showing me a lot of excitement and hopeful baseball😭🙏 Thanks to Ohtani, I started watching baseball⚾️I will continue to be a fan who supports Ohtani and your team❤️
This man made me learn about baseball and become aware of other talented players because youtube had been persistent to show his records to my homepage since August 2021. I can't escape and I still have no idea how the scoring work
Hit for a cycle, top 5 in steals, 3rd in HRs, WAR leader, tied for 1st for most triples, top 5 in almost every batting stat. All this on top of most likely some Cy Young votes, he's the MVP. Ohtani is a superstar and this season will go down in history
I don't think he'll get any 1st place Cy Young votes, but point taken. Also, I hear he's the fastest from home to first base, which is just insane to think about how gifted he is.
He isn’t too 5 in any batting stats besides homeruns, if your looking at it from a batting standpoint Bryce Harper was the better hitter, even in advanced stats he was higher. Not to take away from the guy because he’s amazing for the sport but hes not the mvp, and certainly won’t get any cy young votes with that ERA. What mvp winner has ever gotten it with a .257 batting average?
@@mypud4068 I don't think anyone has, but batting average isn't a highly-prioritized stat anymore. Nobody seems to care if you hit .230 as long as you walk and hit homers. Welcome to the age of analytics, for better or for worse. Ohtani's 3.18 ERA would've gotten him 3rd in the AL, but he probably will never win an ERA title because he doesn't throw enough innings.
Thanks to Shohei, I had a great time. When I was depressed, he encouraged me and I made me feel good. I’m Japanese, so I woke up early to watch Angels baseball games on TV.
His pitching is masterful and his home runs are entertaining, but I wish they included his base steals and the doubles, triples and just his overall skills as a baseball player. He's truly special.
And they should include his batting average, all his strikeouts as a hitter and all the times caught stealing...He was among the worst of the worst in those... What do you think? Should we include those?
@@tylerlamantia8058 he is a elite hitter and a elite pitcher in the top 10 in both at the same time... at worst top 15 for your narrow way of thinking? then imagine how much better he would be if he decided to concentrate on 1 or the other its not like his stats are going to get worse doing half as much work over a season
Keep coming back here to see his amazing play. Gosh I miss him and his play and can't wait to see him next season!!!!! The more I see his play, the more I realize how extraordinary he is….as a hitter and pitcher….power, speed, techniques, the way he carries himself and his charisma….he’s truly like a superhero.
Never thought I'd be into baseball. While it's here, it's not played as much as other sports here in Australia. I've gone from watching Ohtani just for the spectacle to getting into watching numerous game highlights videos of different teams, to watching full games. Interesting little sport you've got there. Looks quite fun!
The single reason I got back into baseball. Here’s hoping for more players like Ohtani, and most importantly, for him to stay healthy and keep building!
@@milesbowler5446 r u ok? It doesn’t have to be to the playoffs, look at what the rest of the mvp candidates did. We’ve never seen anything like it. But you are right, he is not the goat.
Give this man a raise. Do you know how much revenue that Shohei single handedly brings to baseball? I couldn't have cared less about baseball a year ago. This year, I watched every single Angels game AND went to an Angels home game to watch Shohei pitch. Pay this guy more money dammit.
So true. He's a good deal for the Angels. Low cost, big production, more merchandise/tickets sell because of him- even gave his all stars game money to the staff- he's saving upper management 💰! If they had to pay him for his worth, they couldn't do it.
@@grizzyy26 I know, he's decided he'll pad his base stealing and walk rates. Those were lacking. At the end of the season, he felt his triples were a bit low, so he added 3 to grab the top on that too. And finally, he decided he'll hit one more home run to end the season.
From Japanese Baseball Fan, I'm just proud of him as one of Japanese player, and i'm really happy with so much MLB fans love him. He gave me opportunity to watch MLB game, and I could enjoy this season watching many games not only Angeles but also the other team. i'm sorry about my bad English, and if u interested, plz watch Japanese baseball as well. These also so good! We're family as the same baseball lover!!
As someone said MVP is not about stats but “value”. So the impact of his ridiculousness as well as the fact that he brought so many people’s attention back to this sport should be taken into consideration.
You still have to make the playoffs to prove yourself though. Not to mention get a ring. Yes I know it’s very hard to do and he can’t do it by himself but you have to go on the right team and the Angels aren’t gonna be contending for as long as the Astros are ruling the division.
I'm so proud of him as a Japanese baseball fan! To be honest, I initially doubted he could succeed in MLB as a two-way player because it was something I have never heard of. I thought he should focus on either pitching or hitting. But this year he exceeded what I had expected with incredible records! What an amazing player! I'm also thankful to him for encouraging baseball lovers all over the world. His performance and smile have helped them overcome this difficult situation for sure.
46 HR, 103 Runs, 100 RBI, 26 SB, 151 wRC+, fWAR & bWAR leader, .372 OBP, .965 OPS, 8 triples leader ,9 Pitching Wins, 3.18 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, .207 BAA, 156 K's in 130 1/3 IP. Historical season. He made a lot of records. It will take decades to understand how great this season is. Ohtani doing right now looks easy, but unrealistic. Ohtani > Manga and anime
Ok...now include his batting average, his total strikeouts as a hitter and the times caught stealing...and tell me if it looks good...you all fanboys are extremely biased only taking the good and ignoring the extremely bad!
@@愛しさと切なさと里見まさと those aren't simply bad stats...those are among the top 3 worst in MLB(the worst among thousands of guys)...now that doesn't make him average...that'd be an exaggeration...but it surely makes the really observant people realize he's not "ALL THAT GREAT" Get it now?
See you next season Shohei!! It's gonna be a long off-season but what a joy it was seeing you made history as a two way sensation not seen since the BABE!!!
@@gyazuka And ohtani never hit over 100 rbi while doing both. Ruth did it in 25 less games while he was doing both. Rbi are a more important stat than home runs. Maybe there could be a trophy for 2 way home runs named after ohtani. That would make more sense using your logic of course.
I've been watching or playing baseball for 50 years, and I've never seen anyone close to this guy as far as overall talent in my life. He can literally do everything on a baseball field, and do them at a very high level. I can only smh in disbelief... This kid is amazing!
@@alwillk There a few players that had better overall seasons than Bonds, especially considering WAR totals. Ohtani has completed a season that literally has never been done before. Being both an elite pitcher and hitter for the entire season.
Actually I think he was getting hot again in september but teams started to walk him dozens of times so his OBP + walks were crazy high in the last month, they wouldn't LET him hit anthing and pitched around him. He and Walsh were slumping in August though, I suppose it was fatigue from carrying a team of mostly minor leaguers....
In a way it's sad...he has no rivals. Who's going to be able to break his records in the next 10 years, his whole career as a baseball player, maybe even his whole lifetime? Only Ohtani himself. He set his own benchmark, and we'll be lucky to see another two-way player in the majors in our lifetimes because the hurdle of his success seems insurmountable. I hope I'm wrong and we'll see kids who grew up watching Ohtani give it a shot and succeed :D.
I've always loved MLB but becaue of Ohtani-san, I find I would really like to learn more about and watch some Japanese baseball. I really liked Shohei's Fighters manager when I saw him interviewed on CBS 60 Minutes. That gentleman deserves more credit for helping Shohei get to MLB and become the player that he is. Seems like he was a very good manager. Maybe HE should come over to us here also! : )
@@sakitoby1581 As you say, Director Kuriyama is really wonderful. And I'm impressed with what you know by researching that much. I feel that it is very meaningful to be interested in baseball in each other's countries. Thank you for your reply.
@@tsuyu_nuki Hello, thank you for your reply too. This week Ohtani-san received a very special award from MLB Commissioner Manfred for his exceptional season. Lately I've been thinking about how fun it would be to watch a game in Japan. Fighters, of course! Putting it on my bucket list! haha
Ohtani is VERY loved here. He has absolutely reignited America's passion for baseball. It is astounding how much 1 man has affected so many here. Just by being himself and playing with his whole heart. With spectacular results, of course. But it's about much more than just his stats. I truly believe that. I am determined to see him play (hopefully pitch) in a live game in the near future.
My favorite baseball player!
That line drive that Shohei Ohtani legged into a triple did something I never seen before - tore the gloves webbing going straight through it! Showtime brought me back to baseball, a total joy to watch! Thank you Shohei - I bow in much respect.

The most amazing thing about Shohei Ohtani is that he has a great baseball brain and baseball sense ... He has a genius in baseball sense.

Except for the fact that his team (Angels) did not even break .500 or make the playoffs.
Slowed down after AS but proved that he can play whole season as two way player without serious injury
Looking forward to next season
His pitching is masterful and his home runs are entertaining, but I wish they included his base steals and the doubles, triples and just his overall skills as a baseball player. He's truly special.

One word he is what we used to see a superman description extra strong ,and gentleman good looks .
Highlights combined with HR/SB/Ks from one person. Amazing, superb, magnificent, unreal… Can't find the words to describe him enough!!
The single reason I got back into baseball. Here’s hoping for more players like Ohtani, and most importantly, for him to stay healthy and keep building!
Need more of his triples and steals in this highlight!
Thank you, Sho! You left your heart on that field. It's been a privilege to watch.
Thanks Ohtani , We felt happy whole year, See you next Year !!

The best player, the GOAT, the MVP

Give this man a raise. Do you know how much revenue that Shohei single handedly brings to baseball? I couldn't have cared less about baseball a year ago. This year, I watched every single Angels game AND went to an Angels home game to watch Shohei pitch. Pay this guy more money dammit.
Have you checked out the winning bid to his All Star jersey (unused)? He’s the money in MLB.
Without Otani , who will watching angle 🤣
So true. He's a good deal for the Angels. Low cost, big production, more merchandise/tickets sell because of him- even gave his all stars game money to the staff- he's saving upper management 💰! If they had to pay him for his worth, they couldn't do it.
The fact that he maintained this for the full season is ridiculous. Easily one of the best if not the best player in baseball.
he’s hit 9 home runs since all star break.
@@grizzyy26 I know, he's decided he'll pad his base stealing and walk rates. Those were lacking. At the end of the season, he felt his triples were a bit low, so he added 3 to grab the top on that too. And finally, he decided he'll hit one more home run to end the season.
@@ykyang5786 I mean he can’t show off his speed if he’s always just jogging around the bases

Sorry pal. For me, MVP carries his team to the playoffs. Not only didn't the Angels make the playoffs, they didn't even break .500
"Shohei", suddenly I realized that name is so beautiful, like the best name ever.
Meaning of his name,

Sho - Spread wings and fly high
Hei - Gentle, fair and balanced
From Japanese Baseball Fan,
I'm just proud of him as one of Japanese player, and i'm really happy with so much MLB fans love him.
He gave me opportunity to watch MLB game, and I could enjoy this season watching many games not only
Angeles but also the other team.
i'm sorry about my bad English, and if u interested, plz watch Japanese baseball as well.
ShoTime! MVP!👏🎉💯
Thanks for a magical season Ohtani-san! After 2020, it's just what this old baseball fan needed.
Imagine Wayne Gretzky also playing in goal and getting wins. That's how ridiculous what Shohei Ohtani has done. MVP without any discussion needed.
Like that analogy! And I completely agree with you, he's like two players in one and they're both incredible! Crazy

His hitting dropped in the 2nd half but his pitching became better, like it or not, he is the MVP.
Actually I think he was getting hot again in september but teams started to walk him dozens of times so his OBP + walks were crazy high in the last month, they wouldn't LET him hit anthing and pitched around him. @@tsuyu_nuki Hello, thank you for your reply too. This week Ohtani-san received a very special award from MLB Commissioner Manfred for his exceptional season. This award hasn't been given in about 7 yrs. I'm watching the World Series right now but actually I just want it to be over so we can get to the MVP announcement.
Angels don't come to my state often; last time they did I got to see my other favorite, Trout, but Ohtani-san was recovering from surgery I think and wasn't playing. I may have to fly to California.
