I'm Welsh and i'll try to answer your question a bit if i can. A lot of the letters in Welsh make different sounds from what they do in English; f makes a v sound, ff makes an f sound, y makes a u sound, u makes an e sound etc. also there are sounds in Welsh that don't exist in the English language; ll and ch, which are impossible to describe the sound of through text (you would have to hear them pronounced). Also there are mutations in Welsh which is a linguistic mechanic that doesn't exist in English to my knowledge. Welsh seems to be quite an unusual and fairly unique language, possibly because it is so ancient, it's the oldest language in Europe aside from possibly Basque (which apparently has some interesting similarities to Welsh actually).

@@FreePete I'm not sure, the only evidence i've heard for connections between the languages was anecdotal, a friend of my parents went there for a few weeks and said he noticed some similarities. Apparently there have been studies that show genetic similarities between the Welsh and the Basque people though.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and watching the whole thing from our perspective and with hindsight we can make better calls.
That doesn't mean Pete was wrong to make the calls he did. He wasn't working with the same information we do.
Besides it's actually kind of funny when they give him objectively stupid ideas.
