I think there is a lot of resentment on Steve's part with the whole ARW thing and I don't think he is that fond of Trevor Rabin (calling him a "shredder" in the past). It's unfortunate that he feels that way (I am a huge fan of Steve Howe and he has been a big influence on my playing), but he did kind of DIS the hell out of Jon Anderson when Jon had serious health issues (instead of waiting for Jon to recover, they basically fired him, brought on Benoit David to replace him, went on tour, recorded an album, etc.). Honestly, I think Steve has always thought HE was Yes (despite whoever else was in the band at the time)...I always thought that, where Steve certainly has been an important part of Yes' music, Jon was the irreplaceable one. Anyway, it was great to see everyone on stage and playing despite it all, (even though Bill chose not to perform...he was still there and that was fine with me, as, Bill retired a few years ago).
that's steve being steve,he doesn't like the limelight, and the the thing with jon, steve has been around him for what 45 years,i think they know each better by now.
Steve does have an ego. But I can't blame Squire, Howe, & White from wanting to tour. Yes was on hiatus for about three years. And I am glad Jon is doing better. Last year I saw both Yes factions and enjoyed them both.
Tim McCarty I fully agree with you, 100%, posted similar opinions in FB. Little sad about that, but we understand theyre human, and as good fans, we forgive them of course. Just would appreciate a shake of hands or better a fraternal embrace.
I somewhat agree with you, but Squire shared just as much resentment towards Anderson. I believe Squire had a bigger part to play in Anderson's dismissal than Howe.
But only as mannequin? He didn't speak; he didn't perform. He's a brilliant and witty guy, and rock's greatest drummer. A pity he was just on stage to be stared at.
For sure, Neil have commented about Bruford's influence in the past, in his videos and of course he invited Bill to play in the Buddy Rich tribute concerts and recordings. In Neil's website he reviewed Bill's autobiography and made a comment about Bill and Yes influence on him. www.neilpeart.net/index.php/book-club/issue-13/
Bruford. What a great drummer. I saw him with ABWH (and Berlin) during the filmed concert at the Shoreline Amphitheater, and also with Patrick Moraz, in a small venue, for those couple of albums they did together. Also saw him several times performing with King Crimson and once with Earthworks.
Having had the pleasure of seeing Yes, featuring Anderson, Rabin & Wakeman in March, I look forward to the 50th anniversary tour. If Steve cheers up a bit and gets onboard, fine. If he wants to continue to be a stiff, then let him play with his Yes tribute band, because that's really what it is. Note-perfect, but pretty much devoid of any real feeling. Just my opinion, of course....
Love them glad they got inducted wish it would have happened when Chris Squire was still alive !! He would have been so happy !! I love RICK Wakeman he stole the show !!!
Yes should do another "union" for their 50th anniversary. Call it their farewell tour and have their last gig on August 3, 2018. Fifty years to the day of their first yesshow!
Except...who would play bass? I guess the closest we're ever going to get to that is ABWH, and that was over 25 years ago. And even then Bill played nothing like he did on Fragile and CTTE - more of an Alan White timekeeping approach to the drums than his own wild jazzy stuff from the records in 1971-72. Plus those electronic "drums" sounded horrible.
could happen,if these older guys don't have no egos, just put them aside,no one don't need the big money anymore, you're all legends do it for the music, that's what yes was started from in the 1st place.i would love to see petty differences put aside, you guys are great in manufacture shape and form,at least give it a try,and bring back tony kaye.
That's not going to happen. Bruford has retired from public performance (and seems quite serious about it). Sherwood is the person to play bass since he was hand picked by his mentor, Chris Squire, to replace him. It was Squire's wish that Sherwood continue on for Squire. I actually liked to hear Bruford's electronic drums (at least for some songs) during Yes and King Crimson shows.
smart man, period, him and geoff downes in yes was a brilliant idea by chris[the bass master]squire, and brian lane,2 awesome dudes, rest in p-eace chris, you were awesome and great in everything you did,i alway's loved the song, you by my side, from fish out of water,a master piece
golfito 90125 and Big Generator also with Trevor as producer. Lackluster? Drama? Yes made one of their most Yes-like albums without Jon Anderson OR Rick with Drama. Many fans would disagree with your statement of lackluster, myself included. Drama is in their top 3 performance wise, and it's in their top 3 all time in studio album sales. Much to Jon's chagrin I'm sure.
Honestly I thought the Tsongas DVD was their last high point. The shite treatment of Anderson and the band splits since have ruined it for me. Glad they got in though, long overdue. Geddy looks like he had fun.
jon and yes always had their problems, egos, music, bored, health, but these guys ain't 25 years anymore, give them a fucking break, this is not a perfect world,we all age.and everyone going to do what they want in the for seable future,to make yes music.
Steve was irritated before heading in there. AWR clustered themselves around the podium for the induction, and had a plan to go to each other first. Alan forced his way in there after ARW unhesitatingly tried to go from A to R to W, pushing his way in after R called out W. When Steve finally went, it was off to the side away from the podium, and he finished his part of the speech making sure to say that he, Chris, and Alan kept the band going. Then Rick did his dirty joke schtick which the crowd enjoyed but Steve hated, Steve displayed the same body language you see here. So take your sides with this or that backstory or whatever, or not, that's for you guys to decide if that's something you want to do. The induction wasn't a disaster by a longshot, but there was some awkward tension a fan could pick up on for sure.
Maybe not such a conspiracy after all, mind games perhaps, who can tell! There will always be egos in bands, as well as other things in life! If you are referring to 2008, don't forget that Howe & Squire left Anderson as he was seriously ill. Sure they kept the band going, but it wasn't Anderson leaving that band. Alan White was sort of caught between a rock & a hard place, so to speak! At least here Yes made an effort, unlike Deep Purple last year, which was disappointing! Blackmore could have played a song live with the others, Steve Morse included on one also! Some members of DP didn't want that it seems! Rabin & Howe played together here for the occasion, kudos to them for doing that!
I didn't like Wakeman's cheap 'dirty' so called humour either, especially with Squires wife & young daughter on stage! The saying 'there is a time & a place' springs to mind! Wakeman should have disciplined himself a little better I thought!
steve is own guy, happy 70th birthday, you are the best guitarist in the world, your my hero, beside my father edmund j. grzywinski, growing up i immortalized you guys,a great guitar player, and my father who flew in the b-29 superfortress as a right gunner for over 30 missions, dropping bombs on japan, north korea, god bless you both, you 2 changed my world forever,i love the both of you, steve, your biggest fan,tim grzywinski.
So Bill showed up but didn't speak at all ( we knew he wasn't going to perform )? And what happened to Tony? He was inducted but didn't even show up? What a crashing disappointment this was...
Speaking as well? He couldn't have just said "thanks"? He's a brilliant and witty man, and a founding member as well. He and Tony and Jon are the only original members still alive; his moment was the one I awaited the most; instead we were treated to Rick Wakeman's dirty jokes. Funny guy, I'll admit. But this HOF moment was a once-in-a-lifetime event. Like I said: for me at least, a crashing disappointment.
bill is retired, tony, who knows,he should have been there as one of the original members of yes, beside jon and bill, tony made alot of important contributions to yes, from the first 3 albums, before he left in 1971,when rick wakeman joined yes,i always loved his piano parts on the yes album, tony was a genious in those days of pre-syntheszer stuff
Tony was ill and cannot travel for the induction but he celebrated it with his wife and some friends in a local restaurant as he posted in his official Facebook page
I will say that I saw the performances and I felt that Rick and Jon had to have it their way! and they got it!!! what a shame they could have done three songs... "Roundabout" as the line up that played it however, include Billy., "Owner" with ARW include Alan and their bass player as a finally; "I've seen good people" with current Yes line up whomever else wanted to play... simple... Hate their ego!!!! simply hate it!!
FYI Anderson always wants his way and remember he himself says he has a napoleon complex!!!! enough said.. And Rick is mad for what happen with his Kid I get it but com on!!! grow-up!!!
FYI Anderson always wants his way and remember he himself says he has a napoleon complex!!!! enough said.. And Rick is mad for what happen with his Kid I get it but com on!!! grow-up!!!
I've no doubt that some will have read my coments elsewhere on the YES issue. Chris being absent isnt right, the band should have been inducted years ago. I cant help but question if this is a blessing or a curse. Some see Jon Anderson asbeing YES. he has been an important part of YES for sure, but he was thrown out of YES by Chris Squire, going back to the Drams days. YES went on to prove it could survive without him. His return to YES was due to Chris Squire allowing him back. Later, YES had a lot of live commitments that Jon could not cope with for health reasons. It ws killing him. So for his sake and for the sake of YES it was best he call it a day. as for Rick Wakeman, I have always found him disappointing. Why? because he has persistently chosen to leave. His prefeence has always been elsewhere. Trevor Rabin preferred film music. That was why he left. Of the three only Jpon has had the YES commitment. Steve Howe left wand was punished by Chris. "Not needed." Steve learned where his heart is at. It's with YES and he has chosen YES over Asia. Alan White has always been solidly behind YES. So what we have today is a YEs that Chris put together and former members who like the YES fame. AWR are not YES and only Jon deserves to be with YES if his health will allow it. The other two are just kidding themselves and the fans who just want to hear Wakeman and Anderson. As they have left YES, they remain former members.
First of all In 1980 Jon and Rick QUIT. Chris did not kick Jon out in 2008. His health did. By 2009 they realized they would not have to lay out so much money to pay him as a guest.
Let me just say that if Steve Howe looks angry it's for a very good reason. He's the guitar player on the YES album, Fragile, CTTE, TFTO, Relayer, GFTO, Tormato, and after all of that he revived YES with the Drama album. He then came back in 1996, with Mind Drive while Wakeman showed up at a session, or two, to do his thing. Steve Howe stuck with YES with Open Your Eyes, The Ladder and then the awesome Magnification album. And as if that was not enough he and Chris Squire came together to create Fly From Here which, to me, is an astounding album from beginning to end. Mr. Howe was simply waiting for his name to be mentioned and acknowledged by his fellow YES members while they were busy joking around at such monumental event. If Chris Squire was around he would've put Anderson and Wakeman in check while making sure Steve Howe was honored for the entire body of work he did for YES.
way over due. total shame it wasnt done when Chris Squire was still allive
Rick, a proper gent as always - answering the daftest of questions in good humour.
Bruford looks great. I'm happy for him that the Yes band which has been so up and down for him is able to complete the circle.
All the best bands can't stand each other live with it!!
I think there is a lot of resentment on Steve's part with the whole ARW thing and I don't think he is that fond of Trevor Rabin (calling him a "shredder" in the past). it may really be difficult to see how it is yes without jon anderson, but drama was a great album.
I somewhat agree with you, but Squire shared just as much resentment towards Anderson. I believe Squire had a bigger part to play in Anderson's dismissal than Howe.
good to see Bill Buford show up
But only as mannequin? He didn't speak; he didn't perform. He's a brilliant and witty guy, and rock's greatest drummer. A pity he was just on stage to be stared at.
agreed. wonder if Neil Peart would have commented on bruford influence on his playing.

Jon is funny. Actually there will be Yestival later this year but I think only the current line up of Yes is participating with that.
Great... Thanks for uploading!

like the who in 1985,get real.
Love those guys...But there was a very strange atmosphere between them. Anyway , YES deserved this induction!
Bill!!
well deserved.
Kind of awkward
50th anniversary? Full reunion of Close to the edge lineup... YES!

Drama is a GREAT album. They played it in it's entirety for their concerts last year.

He just a smart man

Considering the shabby way Yes decided to go on without him when he was ill, Jon was pretty much a gentleman.
steve howe played a good bass, did you ever listen to the steve howe album,he played the rickenbacker 4001 seies on that album, dial it up.

poor Steve
what do you mean by that, why don't you wish him happy birthday, his 70th,the man is a awesome genious.

He needs to get a grip.
Stupid questions from certain media nobody's! Embarrassing for the musicians, what a joke!
I would suppose none of the people asking the questions had ever heard of YES before they were questioning them. What a wasted opportunity.
Poor body language from Steve.
He looks angry.
as per usual
He's probably pissed off that Rick used the event of a lifetime to tell lots of crude jokes.
Let me just say that if Steve Howe looks angry it's for a very good reason.
