I would encourage you to get the largest mower you can fit on your properties. I track my time the same way you do, and my crews are two to three times faster with stand-on mowers, a 3/4-ton truck, and an open trailer. We don't hit 30 minutes on a lawn until 9800 square feet, and that's at a corner lot.
I understand a $12,000 52" stand-on mower versus a $600 push mower, but you have the spreadsheet, run the math with one less truck, and one less employee, doing twice the work.
$40 lawn at 30 min times 8 hours = $640 a day
$40 lawn at 15 min times 8 hours = $1,280 per day
30 weeks of mowing 4 days a week = 120 mowing days a year
$640 times 120 days = $76,800
$1,280 times 120 days = $153,600
Even if I'm off by 25%, that's still an extra $38,400 per man per year.
At the very least, see if you can borrow, rent, or demo a stand on for a week. Track your times and see if it works for you. Maybe you can't get a 52" mower in all the backyards, but you should still be significantly faster with a 36" stand-on.
Thanks for the breakdown, it definitely makes sense if we are doing larger turf sqft. Do you have lawns under 8k sqft? That is where most of our lawns fall under is the less than 8k sqft mark.
@@TheWillKelly Yes, our Monday routes are 95% lawns under 8000 sq/ft with a couple pushing 10K and the smallest at 2100 sq/ft.
Try to borrow, rent, barter, or demo a stand-on mower, the biggest that you can fit on your lawns (52" will fit on the ramp rack, smaller on the ramp rack sport). Use it for a week to make sure you are comfortably running at maximum efficiency and report back. I'll bet that you will be so much faster, the increased efficiency will pay for the difference in mower cost in the first full season! If not, I'll hand deliver a custom Military Lawn Cuts sticker to you at Equip!
Sounds good brother!! That's a good idea about doing a demo and seeing if its worth it before fully pulling the trigger. Thanks for the tips!!@@blackbeardlawncare7811
Stand on mowers are the way to go
it takes me 23 minutes to start my weedeater, lol.
Sounds like you need to upgrade lol
Takes me about 80 pulls (15-20 mins) to start my backpack blower I found in the trash lol
Impressive you can pull that revenue with push mowers! Obviously every area and business is different but typically what you see is you need to have at least 1 stand on mower that costs around 15 grand.
Yes we are definitely blessed!
How is your price compared to the market price?
$5-7 more per visit.
Solid content!
I have a lawn care business in Alabama I dont push mow yards i use a Exmark Lazer Z E Series 48" zero turn mower my min is $40 you lose money push mowing i have try it dont work for me
A lot of our yards are 2 to 4k sqft
@@TheWillKelly I would still cut with a zero turn mower or stand on.
I think we would be doing more turning than mowing@@charlesjacksoniii8787
@TheWillKelly Okay do what best for you
I definitely appreciate the insight my friend! Thank you for sharing@@charlesjacksoniii8787

Brooo, really need to blur out your customer's specific data like name + address. Yiiikes.
You're right I should
thanks :) @@TheWillKelly
You mean my new customers? ;) lol jk
They are to small that mowing isn’t fun lawn mowing is spose to be fun
And fast paced is bad for your physical health
I don'[t know how he gets customers at $80 an hour.... Unless he plans on cutting lawns fast in like 1/2 an hour.
We are pretty efficient with how we mow a lawn.
I'm also in North Texas. I charge $80/hr with a $45 minimum. My close rate is nearly 100%. There's a lot of people with money that want no part of mowing their lawn in the Texas heat!
@@BrianNadeau2 Yeah many in landscaping seem to do well but I feel many of you can talk people into stuff well. And I also know people who can't convince a baby into stuff at all. Forget the adults!!!
Nice!!!@@BrianNadeau2
I'm in Northern California and do a $50 minimum for a half an hour. I charge $100 an estimated hour.
