yes, that is the reason.. alway wet the cotton so no mercury evaporate..

Yes but be sure to wash with water multiple time to remove nitric before applying mercury, and grind the sand first so that the gold separate from the host tiny stone, To recover gold with mercury apply presure, like moving the material 4 to 6 hours
