    This is exactly what I am doing on my 61 Apache. I didn’t realize the V8 bellhousing from 62-66 was the same mounting as the 61 bellhousing for a 235. Nobody on the Facebook forums know this swap is possible in a 60-61 Apache. Good work with the video

    I found an even better pilot bearing to use is one from a 01-06 2500HD with the nv4500 5 speed trans. It's a big sealed bearing that goes in the big outer part of the crank.

    issues ive heard of are that the old style clutch used shouldered bolts that are like dowel pins. the metric bolts will only locate it by their threads. the new style presssure plate uses the dowel pins for a reason.

    actually the bearing is an 8617 McLeod (or equivalent) and because of the lip it makes up for the .4 inches difference in the crankshaft between the old and some ls engines.It should be pressed in all the way.The other option is the 12557583 roller bearing which presses to the inner lip of the crankshaft and seems to be a better option .Was it my imagination or did he actually press the pilot bearing in all the way later in the video.You have to know what engine you have because some of the Ls motors do not have the .4 inch length difference and if youre a weekend warrior you wil be sad if you have the wrong configration.No nookie tonight.

    It is not recommended to try and run the old school 11" clutch on the LS flywheel! If you notice the clutch doesn't contact the flywheel 100% in the center, about 1/3rd of the clutch face over hangs the flywheel service. You could drive the vehicle but it will destroy the clutch quickly.
    The pressure plate naturally matches perfectly it's the contact between the clutch disc and face of the flywheel that doesn't work.
    Instead you will need a LS specific clutch to match the flywheel. I found the 2002 Camaro clutch worked in a 26 spline application and the truck clutches will have the 10 spline. JD

    Your part # is for a bearing and is different from the bushing you installed . Did I miss something . I have a 99 5.3 when I installed a bearing the spline shaft bottomed out on the bearing about 1/2 inch before the bell housing could mate to the block so I am assuming I need the Bushing ( not bearing) like the one you installed . • @mattbetz
      @mattbetz 11 років тому +1

      In this case the starter bolts right up but for the Z-Bar you will have to fabricate a bracket that mounts off the bellhousing bolts to pickup your Z bar. As far as the 6.0L goes the only year 6.0's that use the longer crankshaft are the 99-2000 iron head LQ4's. 2001+ 6.0L's all use the shorter crankshaft.

    • @completeconcepts
      @completeconcepts  11 років тому

      VanGui1d3r I would just install the 03 LQ4 as it is already a running engine. It would be a lot of work to try and swap crankshafts and overall not worth it for the different length crank. Just use the flywheel we used to connect to the 4 speed and you should be good to go.

    Has anybody had problems with the T/O bearing pulling out since it's only half-way seated? Also, since it's not seated, how do you drive it in perfectly straight? If it were driven in at a slight angle it would straighten out when it's seated, if that makes sense. Seems like if it's off it would eat the input shaft and cause one hell of a vibration?

      +martin750hp It seemed to work out just fine in this car. I took it out to about 5500-6000 rpm a number of times and it didn't seem to have an issue. However I only put about 1500 miles on this setup before I sold this car and purchased a 1957 Bel Air.

      +martin750hp How would it not be safe?

    • @Martin750hp
      @Martin750hp 8 років тому

      +yamahondarider I did not see that you can use one upper bolt hole on the left thinking just four boltholes on bottom were only the only four bolt holes that could be bolted? miss matched parts would be a dangerous combination, but looking at the video again I did not see that all parts matched up pretty good with one another, so that's why I thought it would be dangerous in high rpm situations and you can probably tap out that other bolt hole (check with your mechanic or engine rebuilder on this) to see if that's possible and safe because four speed belhousings stock like this one are a weak link on scatter shields ID be more at ease because when it comes to high RPMs you never know what will come apart but max 6000+ rpms pretty safe I believe but a scatter shield much safer. I don't like to skimp on safety especially stick shift cars and racing you can never be to safe when street racing or track racing always use tork specs and be safe and the right equipment, now you know why I did not think at first it would be safe!!! But nice video!!!

      Safety's for the armchair racers who've never planted their foot and loosed the power of a big block down a drag strip! :-P :-)

    And you are getting about 10% clutch engagement. Look how huge that dish is in the center of the flywheel. Look at the diameter of the clutch disc. Only the outer 10% of that disc makes contact with the flywheel. A better choice is an expensive conversion flywheel that gives you full contact of the clutch disc.

    The same things you'd need to bolt up an LT1 T56 to an LS1.
