- In this video, we explore the benefits and techniques of using the work-in-hand to introduce the shoulder-in to your horse. Work-in-hand allows horses to learn movements without the weight of a rider, helping them focus on balance and coordination. We'll cover how to introduce the shoulder-in-one of the first true lateral movements-through a variety of methods, including using a circle, leg yield, and turn on the forehand. You'll also learn about the best equipment to use, such as different types of whips, and how they can enhance your communication with the horse.
By following these step-by-step approaches, you can make the shoulder-in easier for your horse, both in-hand and under saddle. This type of work is perfect for riders looking to improve their horse's lateral movements and overall suppleness. For more detailed guidance, check out our course on work-in-hand linked in the description.
