This car brought me to your channel. The Challenger made me stick around. I’m looking forward to seeing you learn from your mistakes three years ago to make the car better.
Definitely keep working on this Charger and showing us what you’re doing on it. That said I’m dumbfounded why you’re sticking the QA1 front end in it. On one hand you said you just wanted to get it up and running and keep it simple. Then you admit that it handled great on the 2019 Power Tour, but you throw away one of the few positive aspects of the old car. Son you got to prioritize. You should have left the OEM front end alone and worked on the drive train swap and make it run reliably. Time is running out and the tour will be here and you won’t be ready. Great looking shop building btw. Once it’s set up, you’ll have a fantastic work place!
Great points - "If it ain't broke don't fix it." Adding "new and improved" parts doesn't always make things better - diminishing returns. Just look at the engine WAAAY too much cam, intake and carb to generate appropriate vacuum (assuming it was a low compression RV motor to start with)
@@JDale56 the setup may very well have been the cause for the heating issues, with low or no vacuum you would not have the timing advance needed to cool things down. Some of the people who were involved are advocates of performance tuning, which does not always work ideally on the street.
That's cool content, you always see these builds and never imagine them being bad. So it's refreshing to know that the build wasn't great and good to see how you are going to fix it. Already can't wait for episode 2🤙🏻
What a HUGE new shop! Glad you're tackling a makeover on that Charger. It's got so much potential! Looking forward to your giving it a more methodical deliberate effort to make it run better.
This Charger remains my favorite car on your channel. I AM SO GLAD YOU BROUGHT HER BACK. The 1969 Dodge Charger is my dream car. With prices being what they are, it's a long road for a 20 yr old college student like me. But your videos give me the strength, knowledge, and inspiration to push forward on my current project, and to become a better mechanic for the day when I finally get to work on my own Charger. Thank you Dylan. Please keep going on these videos! Also really cool to see the new garage! I remember when you were still getting started, trying to pull trees off the lot with a pickup you were able to get started. Look forward to seeing this place become a mainstay of the channel!

Man she is a beautiful car! You need to talk to Puddin from puddins fab shop about getting some good ole “sweet patina” on her, it would preserve that amazing patina!

Hey Dylan; a big shout out from Nova Scotia; Canada. I love the Cordoba; it reminds me of days with my grandfather he had one same year; same colour even had the same 400 motor; the only difference my grandfather's had bucket seats and a console. If you are overheating check to see if you have the correct thermostat motorhome 440's take a skirted thermostat when you have a regular thermostat it will run hot idling and under load and on hot days. I had the same problem and it fixed the problem.
Congrats on the new digs! I'm looking forward to seeing this revamp. My Challenger (thanks to you) was a bucket list item, and a Charger is also on the bucket list. Cheers, and thanks for all you do with old Mopars!!
The new shop is looking good! A couple of lifts will cut down on the time it takes juking around a jack and jackstands. It will also save your back! And yes, that Cordoba is VERY minty, that's a show car up here in Pennsylvania! Can't wait for the next video, take care!
great video, and congrats on the new shop! one word of advice though from my own experience, and those of my friends,,,,if you plan on finishing out those interior walls in the shop please do it now, because if you start moving stuff in now it will never,,,ever,,,,ever happen! lol,,,,trust me!
Congrats on the shop Dylan 👍👍 RV engines are notorious for old fuel valve related problems. The valves don't return fast enough. Poor valve guide lubrication, imho🙏 Thanks for sharing
The 440 is usually a solid motor. I suspect much of your brake issue is the 'lumpy' cam that you have in it which is affecting the vacuum. If take the motor out and replace the cam you could solve much of the issues. I suspect that you also have an issue with the torque converter which could be causing the slippage.
Hey Dylan. I have been watching you forever and never miss a post. I have learned alot from you, and you are amazing. I just wanted to maybe make a suggestion if I may. If you are going to do all of this to the Charger, maybe you can take this one to the next level. I get that dents and patina are great for some cars, and it is basically more cost effective to leave them that way, but I really think this car deserves more. I think that once you get the running gear, brakes, etc going, it would be so cool to see this girl back in her original green birthday suit. You know, maybe show us some do it yourself on body work and paint. Get the interior done, and throw on some red lines and dog dishes as apposed to modern rims and tires. I am a Mopar fan from way back;have had quite a few. Just got a 1977 Cordoba last fall, (yes a little sad for your 1978, but we trust you. LOL!) It would be great to see the Charger go an extra step. Just a humble suggetion. Keep up the great work, and God bless, Will
I remember when you did a live chat while working on this car. You even answered my question about whether a regular Joe can take on a project like this. Look how far you’ve come, love the new shop.
it was the challenger that got me watching your channel then i watched your charger videos, now look at you! i had no idea about the shop plans, it looks great, congratulations. i honestly fee that one of these days you are gonna explode on the youtubes, just promise us that when you do, youre always gonna keep your humble regular guy quality that has kept us here all this time. no begging for like and subscribe before we see the content, no destroying $200,000 cars by ramming them with supercharged forklifts, no "dang son"s, none of that. just like us inviting ourselves into your garage to borrow some tools and see what you got going on.
You have to have your kickdown back pressure adjustment just right for your transmission to shift right. I had a 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner 383hp 727 tourqeflight. It was a great car before wrecking it.
Love the new space, Dylan -- that would be great to have! Also, am looking forward to the work on the Charger -- that's a great car. I've noticed that sometimes these projects (not just yours, other's I've seen as well) tend to get really complicated, thus reliability goes down. So, it will be interesting to see how you apply the lessons you've learned! Great video.... not so much the burps :-)) Steve
Too bad the Cordoba didn't find a new home when he tried to sell it. I don't know what he was asking, but some thought the price was too high. Most won't pay extra for upgrades no matter how good they are. Try trading in something like a 2 year old Raptor with $20k in upgrades and see what they offer you.
Impressive that you are open about your mistakes, didn't step away from it forever, and now have a vision to make the tour what you wanted it to be the first time.
I am down for swapping in the 400 it runs freakin awesome! I loved that original build but sometimes things don't work out and you need to start over so keep on turning wrenches to get it just right 👍.
Dylan man I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge with us man I bought myself a junky beauty and I can’t wait to chomp at the bit of it thanks for the inspiration man 🤟🏻
I came to your channel after hearing of you through Kevin and Luke. This car was the first build I watched and I've stayed because I enjoy your content. Bless you my friend.
Finish off the walls in your new shop with white pegboard floor to ceiling. The white finish will pick up the lights making the space brighter. Plus, pegboard is always useful. !
I've been a mechanic for over 20 years and I've never seen a transmission cause an engine to overheat. I'd focus on the cooling system to try and solve that issue.
Neither have I until this car. It’s constantly slipping. Car runs at 3500 RPM and above no matter what, and with a 3 speed, that’s generating a lot of heat. Especially when you mat it and no acceleration occurs and the lack of a trans cooler.
I can pretty much guarantee you one of the reasons it's laying down whenever you give it gas is the gear in the rear end a lot of your chargers had what they call highway gears it's probably a real low 308 or even a 293 if you want to like a 411 or 391 or 410 you'll feel it when you get on it in the in the hole it will snap your neck with a 440 plus you got to run a stall converter I doubt very seriously it's anything you did in the trans
The patina on this car is one of my favorites. Has tons of character and the beautiful thing about patina is that no 2 cars are the same. Seeing all these people commenting to paint the car maybe just want it to look like every other restored charger and be cookie cutter.
I don't understand people like you, were they cookie cutters when they were new....NO! Any old car worth saving should be restored back to new, what is the point in doing less than half a job?
@@kikurass322 Along the hot rod baseline, there have always been primered cars. Those are owned and built by the traditional hot rodders who believe that's as far as they want to go on their cars. They adhere to the "very bare bones rod" school of thought. To them the car finished when it's ready to drive. For their money, all the car needs is a drivetrain, wheels, a body, a seat, and a steering wheel. Anything more exceeds their vision of a hot rod. Paint costs money that could be spent on going faster, so it's not priority and never will be.

@@michaelwilliams5673 well I’ll have to look them up, all I have ever heard of has been QA1 this and QA1 that. If I’m gonna pay $500+ dollars for something, I want something stronger and newer than the factory stuff

Not very many people want to simplify things these days. Seems like the thing now is to try and stuff every hi-tech gadget and gizmo into a car that will fit. The idea of modernizing an old car has always left me cold. The main reason I've always gravitated towards old cars in the first place was their simplicity and ease of maintenance and repair. I think you have the right idea. It's an ancient primal beast, and allowing it to be what it is seems like the right way to go. In a couple of years when the patina fad is over, you can put a paint job on it and you'll have a thing of great beauty. Light colors like white or maybe tan or silver will help keep the heat down in the summer, and you wouldn't need air conditioning. Even more simplification. I'm looking forward to seeing how this one comes together.
I remember you at the Kentucky speedway with this ride. I talked to you and Luke for a few minutes and drooling over the charger. How about putting the engine from the Charger into the Cordoba with a built transmission, run it at the drag strip and to local street cruises. If people see it out and about your bound to find a good home for it. Does it have leather seats if it does you should name it Ricardo, if you don't laugh about calling it that some old timer like Me will. Being a member of the Mopar minority makes me really appreciate your content, keep up the good work.

Keep up the great work, and God bless, Will
LOVE the new shop brother! Can't wait to see all the upcoming episodes filmed there!
Thanks Dylan brings back my childhood watching Dukes of Hazzard THOSE REAR LIGHTS 😍
It’s great that you show that you are going to improve the car by bringing it down a few notches!
Great video.... not so much the burps :-))
Steve
Tell me you are going to save the cordoba for a future project. That car is clean.
He is. Sounds like his other Cordoba (the black one that's crusty) will be the donor for it.
That Cordoba is beautiful, I can’t even watch. Those 400s make really good power, even better with a 500 stroked crank
So glad to see the inside of the new shop i ve been curious for ages to see how it looks inside 🤩 can't wait for part 2!!! 💪👍
Congratulations on the new shop. Nice to have all that space.
Cannot wait to see this one, from Rump to big John this one is my personal favorite. Thnx.
Dylan. I can't wait to see this done. Your work ethic is beyond reproach and I'm sure it will be fabulous in the end
Brother you seriously, seriously need to paint that beauty orange with that beautiful 01 on it 😍 make it exactly
Dylan man I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge with us man I bought myself a junky beauty and I can’t wait to chomp at the bit of it thanks for the inspiration man 🤟🏻
In fact I personally love to see any and every old car restored to its first glory ! Go on please and good luck !
I came to your channel after hearing of you through Kevin and Luke. This car was the first build I watched and I've stayed because I enjoy your content. Bless you my friend.
Finish off the walls in your new shop with white
pegboard floor to ceiling. The white finish will
pick up the lights making the space brighter.
Plus, pegboard is always useful.
!
This is the car that had me hooked to your channel super excited to it back in the shop can’t wait for the next video!!!
Love the new shop!
Glad you have room to keep the projects.
Stripping the charger is going Pretty smooth and Fast the Steering shaft sounds Shot @Dylan McCool
You got my attention. I can't wait for the next episode. Good luck on your rebuild. ✌️ ☮️
Can't wait to hit the road again in it!

What is the Compression Ratio of each cylinder on the 440
I've been a mechanic for over 20 years and I've never seen a transmission cause an engine to overheat. I'd focus on the cooling system to try and solve that issue.
Neither have I until this car. It’s constantly slipping. Car runs at 3500 RPM and above no matter what, and with a 3 speed, that’s generating a lot of heat. Especially when you mat it and no acceleration occurs and the lack of a trans cooler.
bet its the tq converter slippage or clutches slipping, overheating and sending all that heat right into the radiator.
@@DylanMcCoolVideo i know what happened to the radiator you cross thred the cap a long time ago and i saw it in one of the old buld saries
Can’t wait to see it come together. Glad you have decided to give it another chance.
It has a 3.91 and a 3000 stall.
Yes. Rebuild it. It's running. That's a big start. The 69 Charger is a stunning body style.
Great cost saving upgrade and still improving two cars , well done 👍
Lighting in the new shop is great! Video quality is much better.
Aw Dylan if I knew that cordoba was for sale I’d of definitely bought it and shipped it to Australia. I was absolutely obsessed with that car.
That Cordoba was a surprise! didn't know a Cordoba could be that much of a badass, thanks for the enlightenment!
Sounds like a great change up to the Charger build. New shop looks awesome, still like the character of the old one also!
Love this car, can't wait to see more on this project! Good luck with the new shop, its amazing!
Dylan likes new stuff too! Especially when it gets old.
Now that you have all the engine bay clean to play with, please, please fix the wipers!! It's cool to see you fixing up all this mopars from the sixties and seventies, those were the cars of my childhood, Keep them alive!!
Now this is a true charger! Dylan I’m sure whatever you do to this antique masterpiece it will be phenomenal!! 👍🏻🤙🏼😎
May the Lord bless your new shop! Thanks for the great content.
Watched the video seemed a lot clearer and lighting was good audio wasn’t bad either. Think this new shop is going to make your videos even better! Keep up the outstanding work!!
I'm pumped to see this build project.
The car that brought me to the channel! You had iirc well under 50000 subs, probably around 20k. I dream of the day you smarten the bodywork, I know it’s your car but I’d love to see it painted. You said you’d never paint it and I respect that 🙂
Congrats on the new digs, gotta be nice not tripping over yourself and various parts, well at least until you fill the place up fulla junk! Hope to see you and the Charger on the tour, looks like we're coming to your neck of the woods this time around.
I’m ready to see the QA1 set up and how you put it together! I have a 1970 Coronet 440 that needs an entire front suspension and steering column. Hopefully watching this series of the charger will help me!
I would go with a Hotchkiss TVS. They're on sale at $570 off until mid May. Way better on my Charger than one with qa1 that ran at optima challenge
@@michaelwilliams5673 well I’ll have to look them up, all I have ever heard of has been QA1 this and QA1 that. If I’m gonna pay $500+ dollars for something, I want something stronger and newer than the factory stuff
I have a video of my "Biohazard Charger" at hustlestuffhemi on you tube at the track. Hotchkiss is very well engineered and has rear leafs. Just add big t-bars and have fun
@@michaelwilliams5673 I’ll go have a look then! Thank you!
The new shop is exciting!
CONRGATULATIONS !!!!!! I am so excited to watch future content produced int your gorgeous shop. Yess weather is no longer an issue !!!!
Bro new garage, must be amazing not being so cramped anymore from that smaller shop.
After all that work you did and you just left it my heart
Dylan your a great mechanic. Enjoy your work. The new digs are great.so much room. Thank you for sharing
I remember you at the Kentucky speedway with this ride. I talked to you and Luke for a few minutes and drooling over the charger. I'm glad you got it back out as this is the car that got me subscribed to the channel. Pretty bummed ky speedway is off the schedule being as I live 2 miles away but I'll just have to come see you guys somewhere else.
The GreatContentFanyasyFriendInTheSkyBurpingCompetition channel delivers again! Keep it up, Dylan!
What brought me to this channel was this beautiful charger (and the CCR videos lol). Glad to see it's getting a re-visit/ re-vitalization! Keep up the excellent work!!
Same
How about putting the engine from the Charger into the Cordoba with a built transmission, run it at the drag strip and to local street cruises. If people see it out and about your bound to find a good home for it. Does it have leather seats if it does you should name it Ricardo, if you don't laugh about calling it that some old timer like Me will. Being a member of the Mopar minority makes me really appreciate your content, keep up the good work.
Really forward to this rebuild Dylan. Keep us apprised.
Oh Yea , very nice shop , got some room now. Maybe a total tour , in and out , once you get it all done.
Like the old charger
Very cool Dylan 👍 looking forward to part 2!!
