    Hahahaha... Sounds like our olden days of HDR and the Trey Ratcliff journey. Glad you did this, I think there are lots of people that need to take note.

    I remember back when you first used that phrase Jim! 🤡😂🤡 I think using the HSL sliders in the Color panel are somewhat global adjustments too because color tones of red, green, blue, yellow (and all variations thereof) can be found in each color you work in. (I hope my reasoning didn't confuse anyone, I'm trying my best to fully grasp color theory and it sometimes appears as clown vomit!!) Nice edit Jim! I hope to make it Iceland one of these years! (Volcano be gone!)

      thanks TC and yes I agree with what you said, but this was more high level in the sense that the HSL sliders are not the same as dragging the overall saturation slider - but yes you must be careful for sure!

      @@JimNix "The HSL sliders are not the same as dragging the overall saturation slider." Yes sir, understood. 👍

  • @twistoflime

    I think people would be surprised by their level of saturation choice were they to start with a desaturated image, then bring up each colors' saturation slider slowly. Too often we think pushing sliders to the right improves the image simply because it's now different than what we started with.

    • @JimNix
      @JimNix  3 місяці тому

      Yes I agree I think that is very true.

    Great tips Jim. ESPECIALLY the first one. DO NOT use Saturation unless you ABSOLUTELY have to, and if you do use it sparingly. Use Vibrance instead. Doesn't matter which photo editor it is. They're pretty much all the same. Saturation affects the WHOLE photo and 99% of the time, you don't want that. As Jim said, vibrance ONLY boosts the colours that are more muted and leaves the other colours alone. Much better. Use Vibrance sparingly too, but for most photos, I almost never touch Saturation either and prefer Vibrance instead.

    Good to emphasize what *not* to do, Jim! It's way too easy to lose perspective using Neo, given that you can make repeated edits with the same tool. I find the "revisit later" advice to be the most powerful!

    G'day Jim
    I agree with you 110%.
    I'm in your boat when you said that you are guilty of the Clown Vomiit.
    You have made quite a lot of useful tips, but what I do, as im not a professional photographer but a hobbyist and have more time on my hands, I simply re- edit a photograph after a few days and compare the difference editing processes.
    It's amazing the difference, and generally, my second edit is far better than the first.
    Greg

    Great tips and especially the 5th one. As you've said, your eyes become desensitized to color. I find that I'll most often use saturation at the end of an edit and I'll desaturate the image slightly rather than adding saturation. This always produces a more realistic look.

    Hey Jim, could you explain the difference between clarity and sharpness?

    • @Theexplorographer
      @Theexplorographer 3 місяці тому +3

      Clarity is sharpness but applied at a wider radius using a local contrast method. Sharpness is contrast applied to the edges in the image. Clarity allows you to subtract as well, adding softness to the image. AI Sharpness is a whole other ball of wax that has nothing to do with either Sharpness nor Clarity and uses decision making to adjust each pixel in context to its surrounding area through several passes.
