Having actually been there myself, I would stay but mainly to see the park itself. We were doing a driving holiday around California and didn’t really have much time to see the park and as you said the scenery is actually kind of unbelievable with your own eyes ..
Half dome. Yosemite is special. I had afternoon tea in the large room. Awesome views. Creaking door is a hoot. Maybe it is hard to maintain the carpets because of the hikers being on mucky trails. In my old hotel designer days I used to go to empty hotels to measure, check condition etc.(was really creepy) I was tempted to stay at this hotel but ended up at the Evergreen Lodge nearby which I think you get more for your dollar. This hotel is a classic. Your video makes me feel like I am back there again. BTW I have never seen the movie from the beginning to the end. It is way too scary for me.
Just amazing Tim ! You show so much of the hotel and it does come across like something is going on. Loved how you put the filming upstairs showing you downstairs. What was scary was the stroking on your face and pull on bedsheet. That is what was scary !!
The price is ludicrous for the hotel's standard. I agree. But you pay for the location and staying on the set of The Shining. Certainly not a rather worn out dump, of UK Britannia Hotels quality. At least in England, Britannia Hotels are cheap.
Who is broke? I don't spend 900 on a hotel room. I am not even close to broke. And if people are doing it then are people actually broke? There are more millionaires in the history of the USA ever right now. At any time a person makes a horrible financial decision they will be broke.
I've been to Yosemite several times and while, not nearly as historic as the Ahwahnee, I've stayed at the Tenaya Lodge which is quite grand and beautiful. One thing I can tell you for sure, the food offerings at the Tenaya lodge are superior to that of Ahwahnee from what I can see from that horrid buffet. It never ceases to amaze me how ridiculous hotel prices are these days. I mean it's one thing if you're getting a superior product for your money, If I walked into that room and saw those gross stains on the carpet and whatever that was on your bed, I would have immediately taken photos and gone down to the front desk and made a fuss. You're a much nicer person that I am Tim :) Can't wait to see where you stay next!!!
My thoughts exactly. I’m from Oregon and remember well when Timberline Lodge’s exterior was featured in the film. I must say it’s way more interesting than the exterior of the hotel used for the majority of the film.
A bit of background, Ahwahnee (Enchanter Young-Woman, also spelled ahuiani in Spanish sources), in the Aztec world, is the name for the female young entertainers who act as hostesses and whose skills include performing various arts such as music, dance, games and conversation, mainly to entertain male customers, usually Aztec warriors. Also explains patterns on tiles and borders on the walls etc as being of Aztec origin.
I can hear Danny Torrence going through the halls on his big wheel. Wood floor, carpet, wood floor, carpet. Stanley Kubrick didn't miss a beat. Great video thank you for the walk through!
When I lived in Colorado in the 90s, I got to stay at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. This hotel is the inspiration for the novel. But it doesn’t look anything like the movie hotel. For example, I ate in the dining hall, and it’s very small. Not the huge, lonely hall depicted in the movie. But Steven King had a very different experience when he stayed there. He envisioned a whole horror story! Lots of American history at the Stanley Hotel, I’m lucky to have had a chance to stay there.
Wow Tim you sure know how to take us along with you on adventures. That was so entertaining. I've watched the shining so many times. The hotel was just like the movie. But you made it less creepy. I'm glad you were comforted either by a dream or just missing Gaby. Thanks for another great video.
I loved The Shining but thought it was a shame the hotel was so dirty and not updated. However I`d stay there for those views alone which were amazing, thanks for taking us along Tim! I had a friend who lived by Yosemite and now I can see why she used to brag about it.
Loved this. My takeaway, however, was the guy getting food ahead of you. Rocking a mullet and denim dungarees. Respect to anyone who makes that bold choice 🤣
Enjoyed this! It really is like the film... very creepy! Looked very grubby for how much they charge and the buffet didn't look very appetising! Another great video Tim, thankyou 😊
Gaby can you ask Tim if he likes Costa or Starbucks and also Iam going to stansted airport on Thursday I’m going to Bosnia also I named my channel after Tim’s only my handle is that also my mum likes your songs and have a good day 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Thank you for the tour, Tim. The dirt and wallpaper peeling from the wall kinda turned me off. That's what scared me . . . hehe Two things did creep me out--the small locked doors in the hallway at the bottom of the wall and the extra room off the closet. What scared me the most was the price you paid for one night. Yes, back in the day, when movie starts were staying there, it may have been more elegant, but in the shape it's in now, it's not worth the money.
Thank you for your review. I’ve seen this hotel many times and it’s comparison to The Shining. But your honest perspective from a guests point of view has me reconsidering actually staying at this hotel. As beautiful as it is, and the scenic wonders outside the walls, the grimy walls and carpets, buffet, and denim overall mullet heads have this hotel lower on my bucket list.
I loved your story about your experience in the morning! Spooky dude!! So cool... Anyhow, thank you for another honest review. They are much appreciated!
The Stephen King book, The Shining, was inspired when Stephen King was snowed in by a blizzard at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. However, few hotels in the world have the spectacular natural scenery of the lodges and campgrounds at Yosemite National Park!
That thing you felt, well, I happen to believe there is more between heaven and earth. I had something like that happen, in my own house. Not touching my face but gently stroking the back of my head. Like you it relaxed me, it was not frightening at all. My cat was sitting on my lap, purring and looking in my eyes, and just before it happend she looked over my shoulder like she saw someone. So, who knows, someone kind from the spirit world wanted to make me relax. It wasn't scary at all. And about this video, loved it, those elevators, they give me the creeps, where you got into the hotel at night is where old caretaker, who also had the shining, died of a hearthattack. And when you got into the bar, when the lights went on, shivers down my spine. Dang, that hotel is epic. But still, I wouldn't stay there, 900 dollars is too steep for me.
Amazing, beautiful scenery& Hotel..does look like it needs some decorating in parts though.I would dearly love to visit it❤ Thank you for a great video👍
Thank you. The not so little side hotel was creepy enough, but am really looking forward to this. The film has rightfully earned its place in film history. I didn't realise the place was so massive until these vids. A great pre-Halloween treat.🏫🎃
I have never been to Yosemite National Park, but an American friend of mine says it's very commercialised. That hotel see you stayed at Tim looks the opposite of Fontainebleau, beautiful from the outside rather grubby and dirty inside. Bears are thought to have the best sense of smell of any animal on earth.
Very interesting trips, I suggest you visit Montenegro (especially the Sveti Stefan hotel near Budva) and there are very interesting hotels in Serbia. I think viewers of your UA-cam channel would be delighted to see that special beauty
I think you're right on the pillows in US hotels. I stayed in Chicago recently they had 6 really nice feather pillows. I love the feathers over the foam. Growing up, that's all we had were feather pillows and feather covers. Very very cool hotel and so scenic.
I tell you what is breathtaking Tim the Price, i was there in Yosemite Nat/Park in March stunning Scenery without a stunning Hotel bill as i slept in the Car it was a brilliant.

I think Jared Leto frequently stays here
Very interesting hotel thank you Tim I stay there Tim yes I would
@@susantumblety6003 That is not an endorsement 🤣
Imagine staying here and you randomly bump into Frankenstein.
Would not pay 100:
Flippin' eck ! At 10.20 look at that mullet !!
YEP...10:20 MULLET ALERT!!!😂😂😂🚔🚨🚓
I don't believe in "haunted" places, but I do love old buildings and spooky adventures. Beautiful area and hotel. Another great video. Thank you 😊
i believe in places that can have extra paranormal activity or presence.. 'haunted' is a hollywood/human creation
These episodes might not get as many views but they are best in my opinion.
Just amazing Tim ! You show so much of the hotel and it does come across like something is going on. Loved how you put the filming upstairs showing you downstairs. What was scary was the stroking on your face and pull on bedsheet. That is what was scary !!
“Pass on that” had me crying! I think the same things at buffets 😂
I have really enjoyed your videos! Thank you for your hard work!
- Alicia
Thank you so much!
When Tim was in that hallway, it felt like those twins would appear at any moment!😱👭
Love the decor in this hotel!
So picturesque, very creepy and apparently very dirty 🤣
It looked more "worn" than dirty to me.
And way too expensive
Thanks, Tim - for another 'shining' example of an informative and entertaining travelogue.
$900 for one night in an old dirty hotel is way too much / no wonder we’re all broke in 2024.
@@momohead35 and 35 bucks for breakfast. I would still love to walk through it, but I'll probably be camping out in my car that night🤣
That price is ludicrous.
We’re all broke because of 4 years of Bidenomics. Thank goodness that’s all about to change.
I stayed at Tenaya and loved it.
Looking forward to it.
Okay now you need to stay at Timberline Lodge on Mt. hood. That was used for the exterior of the Overlook.
May also explain why he felt a sensual touch on his face at night
I had dinner there in 2016. We stayed at the camp ground. Yosemite is one amazing place.
I can hear Danny Torrence going through the halls on his big wheel. Wood floor, carpet, wood floor, carpet. Stanley Kubrick didn't miss a beat. Great video thank you for the walk through!
@@wretchedrue7859 the sound design in that film was incredible. Totally authentic to how it’d be living and being haunted in an old hotel like this
Wow. Thank you so much for the Impressions. Wonderful nature❤
Scenery is breathtaking, ghosts in the room are not. Thanks for being brave for us.
Yosemite ❤❤❤brings back lovely memories of my California and the Wild West tour.
I vacay'd in Estes Park once, and I was told about that hotel.
"Come play with us Timmy, for ever & ever!"
So creepy lol I couldn't stay there but kudos to you for being brave x
The shining is my favourite film of all time I can't lie so I'm very excited for this video
Wow Tim you sure know how to take us along with you on adventures. That was so entertaining. I've watched the shining so many times. The hotel was just like the movie. But you made it less creepy. I'm glad you were comforted either by a dream or just missing Gaby. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks sherry
Great to see this. Now we know why it was so easy for Jack to axe his way through the bedroom door! Would love to go there - amazing scenery.
I loved The Shining but thought it was a shame the hotel was so dirty and not updated. However I`d stay there for those views alone which were amazing, thanks for taking us along Tim! I had a friend who lived by Yosemite and now I can see why she used to brag about it.
Tim you go to any lengths for us thank you, you are by far worth any money we send to support you. 😊
A11 work and no play makes Jack a dull boy ! Great vid.
Tim, have you visited the Banff Springs Hotel, in Banff, Alberta, Canada? It also has strong Shining vibes!
I agree. We stayed at the Banff hotel. It’s definitely spooky as well.
Cool video ! That was fun .I wouldn’t spend that much to stay there. Thankyou for taking us along.Good job Tim❤
Thankyou Tim for acknowledging my comment ❤️
Thanks for posting these videos so quickly. I love watching them before bed.
i can't believe i'm seeing inside this hotel
Gaby you and Tim should tour all of our National Park Lodges. There's quite a collection of them. They are all so Historic . And unforgettable .
Gaby can you ask Tim if he likes Costa or Starbucks and also Iam going to stansted airport on thursday
Gaby can you ask Tim if he likes Costa or Starbucks and also Iam going to stansted airport on Thursday I’m going to Bosnia also I named my channel after Tim’s only my handle is that also my mum likes your songs and have a good day 😊😊😊😊😊😊
When’s the next time you and Tim are going on holiday together
Stunning place! Though for rates like that they could change the carpet or at least clean it. Awesome review Tim!
Beautiful setting with the National park. Looks great from the outside. Could do with a bit of an upgrade in the rooms. Great video as always
It should be cleaner. It’s a landmark, so they can’t change much
I loved your story about your experience in the morning! Spooky dude!! So cool... Anyhow, thank you for another honest review. They are much appreciated!
I laughed at the fireplace..you looked like a toddler in front of it! 🤣
The lobby and lounge are almost spot on for the film, and those elevator doors, even if the outside looks really different.
Many of these massive timber hotels were built by the Works Progress Administration to employ men during the Great Depression. They're incredible!
The famous Caretaker scene walking down the hall was when he got "wacked" 😮 by the then, completely psychotic, Jack Sends shivers...
@@saskiapanter there was a staff member in the bar turning on the lights. They went through the swinging door to the left. Nothing spooky there!
@argo12 lol I saw that, it's more the vibe it gave. I knew it wasn't a ghost doing that lol. I'm not that simple
@@argo12 Nah, I was the same, lol. Knew it was the staff member and saw them, but still creeped me out for a sec.
Thank you for making the effort to film at 3:00am so you can show us an empty hotel!
Timberline lodge in Government Camp Oregon is the outside of the hotel in the movie!
I love the feel to this hotel. Beautiful details. ❤
Amazing, beautiful scenery& Hotel..does look like it needs some decorating in parts though.I would dearly love to visit it❤ Thank you for a great video👍
RIP Shelley Duvall.
It’s a landmark , built in 1927.
Very interesting trips, I suggest you visit Montenegro (especially the Sveti Stefan hotel near Budva) and there are very interesting hotels in Serbia. I think viewers of your UA-cam channel would be delighted to see that special beauty
Loved the video love the shining vibes going on
I think you're right on the pillows in US hotels.
