Mmmmmh, butter. Loved this! And the music for the time-lapse b-roll during the shoot was excellent.
Loved this - and the resultant shots. What I would really like to see is a video taking you through the shot of the corn cobs. That, for me, is a truly epic shot.
Oh, terrific. It’s past my bedtime, but now I’m craving hot buttered toast. 😂
Very inspiring content, really makes me want to practice using my studio lighting more, and build out my portfolio.
Also, Moggy is adorable and I loved seeing her in the timelapses :3
Pretty sure my following went up after she was in a video haha.
@@c.augustin turns out cat videos really are what the internet is for.
@@c.augustin Ive never had a cat or dog before haha. So I am utterly obsessed with her
Hi Scott
The pasta shells shot is awesome. So simple but so powerful. As you say, so on message for your portfolio. Love it.
Really enjoy your BTS videos. Get a good insight into your process. Also it highlights just how good it is to work with a professional stylist.
Great stuff!!
Yeah the stylist makes all the difference. Same with a good retoucher
Just found your channel and I'm very much enjoying your videos.
Thanks :D
Great seeing your process and understanding the mindset behind approaching the shoot but also post edit culling and what you would use where.
Thanks Ian
Love your posts. Thank you!
ThaNKS KIM
such a great video
THanks Tom
Yep, I'm becoming obsessed with your chanel ❤
Thanks :)
Great video see enough of the process without getting bogged down well done the crumpet photo made me put a crumpet in the toaster !
Thanks 😊
I love moody product photography it give the product like this elegance good amazing video
Couldn't agree more!
Really enjoyed the candid and relaxed presentation.
Glad you enjoyed it!
So simple yet so good, im glad i subscribed.
THANKS :D
This is epic. 10 minutes in and I already knew I was gonna subscribe. 🙌🏼
Great thorough video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks David
Just the channel I was looking for. Thanks my brother. Bang on.
Absolutely loved watching through this process Scott and also enjoyed watching your little helper Moggie ❤️
Thanks Antonia
This is great. Love seeing your process and the end results that you and your stylist achieved.
Thanks Brain
Thanks, Scott. Really enjoy the long form presentation and depth.Very nice blend of aesthetic and technical concerns from inception to final output.Yes to more of these.
Fabulous video and tutorial. One of the best and most detailed behind the scenes I have seen.
Truly remarkable. You managed to take on all the elements of a HUGE multi-process, multi-image shoot and edit it down into one of the best food photog process videos I've seen. Kudos Scott!
Btw, ever since you suggested the 4x5 format in my portfolio review - I now crop ALL my images to 4x5. You're so right, it just looks more um, "premium". ;)
the standard camera files use look too long and skinny to me. I prefer the beefy 4x5 or even 5x7 at. push :)Glad you found it to be of use.
Love the explanation around your thought process with lighting. I have never really seen good explanations around how to use artificial light in a way to mimic the sun/natural light. When my husband came to your class, this is what he talked about the most. How good you were with using artificial light to mimic times of day etc and your ability to explain that. Very inspiring and motivating. Also love seeing Moggy.
Thanks :D Yeah I remember him coming along :)
Choucino!!!
That lighting stopped me in my tracks!!! You started editing on the Eizo Monitor and my jaw hit the table!!! you "F'ed" me up with that one! LOL. This is a great video also. Great insight for us in the industry and young people just starting. Very inspiring and educational. I'm stealing this for myself.LOL
Thanks again!
This is so inspiring!
Great to see your process and end shots. I personally loved the pasta pictures. Thanks for sharing :)
Juliet thanks Juliet 🙃
Love the BTS!
Amazing work loved it. Thank you.
Vivek Vishwakarma thanks 🙏
Damn, that pasta shot!! Wow
yeah the Pasta worked really well in this.
Really enjoyed this. Thank you 😊 🙏
Thanks :D
Great video Scott - thanks 👍
Mark Shirley thanks Mark
Mark Shirley thanks Mark
Wonderful video. Thank you for sharing your process. Very entertaining and insightful. It would be amazing if you could do a longer edit and trying to vocalise why you do some of the changes, like you did with the photoshopping of the basil leaves, but in CaptureOne (I'm putting more blacks because of this)
Hey, yeah sure I can do that soon for a video :)
In a future video could you say a bit more about what all the various team members do on the day of a big shoot?
Super-great peep into your process, Scott. Felt like falling into the pasta and make a pasta angel. It is just pure happiness. If possible, would love to know how you did the hard lighting for fries on colour backgrounds image in you portfolio. Cheers.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :)
loved the insight into your process! especially how you being to organize your plan! Also I don't know what the song was but its on loop in my head!
haha yeah I really liked it too. Very ctachy hook
Brilliant video!
John Riper thanks
Would be great to have tour of the studio and how you organise your gear from modifiers to stands. Also whats the name of the modifier that acts like a large reflector and beauty dish? Thanks for the awesome content
As soon as I work out how to organise it I will haha. Its chaos in here.
Its called a softlight I think. Bit hard to find these days though
Great video, thank you. I wonder why you round trip Photoshop for your healing? I use C1 and particularly with the latest upgrade find the healing good, those TIFF files would put me off. I find your lighting tips particularly useful. Take care
Robert Simpson no reason other than I am slow to adapt to change haha
Hi Scott, beyond your photos also your video are really smoth and pleasant to see, I found all the process really interesting.
I have a curiosity that I would love to get rid of, how many photos do you deliver at the end of a work like this? Usually 😊
More of this ❤
Rewatching this one. 8:25 my cat also does that, we call it fireworks ahahah
Hey Scott, thanks for the openness and sharing your techniques. I was wondering which powered battery you are using in the camera.
David Baker I have no idea what it’s called to be honest. I think it’s just some generic brand and probably only cost about £30
Hi Scott, did you say that you incorporated a tilt-shift lens for food projects on occasion ?
Scott, I have a problem with battery power running out with my Nikon D800. What model of AC adaptor are you using in your Canon? Perhaps they make one for my camera as well. Thanks.
Very very useful
I noticed you use mac , I've been transferring copy of the folder using airdrop actually it very fast , it work as long both computers on the same wifi
Matrix photo design yeah we used this to great effect until two Mac OS updates ago, then it started to be really hit and miss
Absolutely loved this vid ❤️ in the future please create this version vid with real ad campaign situations.. i appreciate your hardwork for this YT content 👍👍👍 also do you think native iso for 5dsR is 160/100?
Hey. Not sure onthe answer to the native ISO, but to my eye 100 looks slightly better than 160 on the 5ds series. Might be wrong though and it is very close.
Great video!
Thanks for sharing your workflow from start to end!
Are you the one that decides which photos to send the client or do you ask for feedback from the client and then make the final image choices?
That pasta shot is amazing! No use of color checker in workflow?
I always shoot them, but only use them if I am struggling in post or if I need 100% accurate colours.
Choucino Photography make sense. Sometimes you just run into these shots were colour can be all over the place no matter how much/long you push and pull the pixels 😆
andrew filipowicz yeah. Even within the same shoot sometimes one just won’t play ball
I am sorry for the question but I am trying to learn, why the highlights are so hard? Is that a personal option/taste or that is caused by the type of light you are using? Shouldn't the highlights be a bit softer?
Titano Cruz they can be as hard or soft as you like, as long as their is a white point somewhere. It’s a sided by the modifier, light and camera settings, so all adjustable and personal choice.
hey, really like the spaghetti shots plus the herb, not liking the potato image dont know why but not for me,loving the pasta shots, think the pasta my favourite, butter shots think pea shots ok,but needs a hard light from a different direction, but thanks for video really enjoyed it.
Question, why do you do your cloning/healing before the grading? Doesn't the file's info get lost in a Tiff (like it would in a jpeg) rather than grading the RAW file first?
Hey, Usually for ease of re edits with clients who would likely need a lot of changes. You do lose some info in the TIFF conversion. But I personally can't see it in the print and can only see the loss in some situations on a screen.
@@TinHouseStudioUK interesting and yeah I guess I've always encountered multiple edits on top of my turnover on the client's side so I minimize grading and retouching on my end. Cheers. Keep up the great work with videos that keep it real in terms of actual and real world photography work
What was the name of the wave like thing at the end of the beauty dish?
Can you show how you interpret a graphic designers, "tear outs"/drawings or brief.
yeah I think I can find a way to do that :)
@@TinHouseStudioUK Follow up question. When you do work like this; (portfolio) do you make your own "graphic design", so that the food stylist can follow it? IE is part of the workflow, demonstrating that this photo has the elements a company would look for. (Graphic design, photographer, and food stylist "quality")
@@alanmckinstry3246 It depends who I am working with. If they are new to working with me then I would, but I have shot with Elle enough that we both kinda know what we are doing.
How much did it cost to set your whole studio up. Just the equipment sans the camera and lenses...
Aye this video made it to redit
Ryan Muyembe oh cool. Although I must admit that I don’t understand redit at all!
What is the song played in the studio?
Kevin Rehnberg I’ll have to find out, can’t remember, but it’s from a music library rather than cd etc
I feel like your title would be better if it highlighted that this is what could/should go into a portfolio piece.
I am useless at titles, but yes I don't think the title fully matches the content in this video.
Amazing so few people take the time to add a LIKE. Maybe you should push more plugs? Just thinking it is unfair to all the effort you put in.
Dummy battery 😎
Looks like all the work is done by food stylist...without giving proper credit
I do love your videos, but this is not a commercial shoot, it's editorial. You're not working with a brand and all that it entails (a concept that's not your own, style guide, agency peeps, client reps, etc.).
hootubs I think the best way to describe it is probably a commercially viable portfolio as it doesn’t fit into the criteria of editorial as their is no story, words or publication. Although in a very meta way it could be a UA-cam editorial shoot haha
auto focus makes this video unwatchable!
